A Day Book . . .

FOR TODAY, March 25th, 2025

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW ...

It was bitter cold yesterday, well it felt bitter cold anyways, and we did get a bit of snow, but that turned to rain overnight.  The sun is not up yet so it is still dark, but starting to lighten up, and the puddles are on the ground from last night's rain. It is above zero so quite a bit milder than yesterday.  I can see that the grass is starting to look a bit greener. Even in the dark.

I AM THINKING ...

I have already told myself that today is going to be a good day, and I have no reason to believe otherwise!  Positive thinking.  My glass is half full already!

I AM ALSO THINKING ...

It was nice to get to spend some time with Eileen and Tim yesterday. Love my daughter very much. We broke bread together and had a few laughs. It was rather expensive though so maybe next time I will just bring them here for a meal. Not that they aren't worth it, because they are, but by the time I paid the tip it was over $70. We had to eat early because I had forgotten about my Financial Self Reliance Course, which is on Monday evenings beginning at six.  They didn't mind though, so that was good.  I was back here in good time.

Giant Molasses Cookies

IN THE KITCHEN ...

Giant Molasses Cookies.  I did a small batch of these yesterday. It should have made only a dozen, but it made 18 big cookies. I had enough to give Cindy half a dozen and Eileen and Tim half a dozen and I had half a dozen to keep for myself. They are delicious. Can you ever have too many molasses cookie recipes?  I think not!

ON MY "TO COOK" LIST ...

These air fryer chips look really tasty. I have done chips in the microwave before and they were nice. I want to try these ones in the air fryer from Taste of Home

SOMETHING I KNOW TO BE TRUE ...

It's all about perspective. You create a life by the choices you make and how you look at things. It is not so much what happens to you that counts so much as it is how you react to the things that happen.

SOMETHING THAT'S NICE ...

Pancakes and syrup.  Very tempting . . .

SOMETHING ELSE THAT'S NICE ...

A Flock of Paper birds.  Origami.  Can you imagine how long it took to hang all of those birds up?

OH MY GOODNESS ...

Nutmeg giving me his "love" eyes earlier this morning.

I wish that I had the space in my bathroom for a cabinet like this  . . .

I AM READING ...

THE CORNER THAT HELD THEM, by Philip Hensher

The Corner That Held Them is a story of many small lives lived both with small hopes and grand dreams. It is the story of the convent of Oby. It was founded in the 12th century by a man 10 years after he discovers his wife in bed with her lover and righteously slaughters the lover. We meet the nuns 200 years later and peer into the intimate details of their lives. We find that the location of the convent is not the most advantageous – its farm land is frequently flooded. It is in a swampy location. The prioress is the CEO of the convent, scheming to attract novices with good dowries, planning on how to maximize its income, enticing a new priest, meeting and mingling with the worldly most particularly those who can or may help the convent with its affairs, designing a magnificent spire to increase its prestige and wrangling with her fellow nuns. It is the same whoever the prioress is, whoever the nuns are. They make little economies, they make large economies, they say their offices every day, they are political and they are religious and they are domestic. They fight and bicker and quarrel like any small community. They survive the Black Death, the changing of bishops, a priest who is not a priest and mad nuns. They survive being robbed and being oppressed. There are side stories and stories that illuminate their surroundings. It is brilliantly done and a marvelously realized world.

    1. No, it's the same series. Series 1. I haven't watched 1923 yet. I haven't seen Landman either. I love spending time with Eileen and Tim. They are a cute couple and so happy. xoxo

  2. I find eating out is expensive any time. A craft I have never tried is felting, unless of course you count shrinking something in the dryer! It sure is cold here, bits of snow coming down but not settling. Thinking positive that warm weather will come soon. Stay positive.

  3. Lots of good stuff today...those little pipecleaner dogs are the cutest ever aren't they?? Some people are so clever!! I would think your kids would love to eat at your house as much or more than going out...it is always a tossup here at least, if going out is any better than home and usually not (and no I am not a chef but good grief people, you could try harder a bit I think, esp. when folks have to pay a small fortune to eat out!!) Glad you had a good time with them...no doubt the cookies were a hit too!!

    1. Thanks Elizabeth! I thought they were really cute also. I have pipe cleaners but I also have a cat that goes crazy every time I take out a pipe cleaner. Cinnamon loves them and thinks they toys! I suppose I wanted to take them out as they don't often get to eat out in a restaurant and it was close to their home. But really you are right for what you pay the food is substandard! They loved the cookies! HUGS, xoxo

  4. Marie, I made the crockpot recipe from yesterday and it was delicious! I didn't have the onion soup mix so just seasoned with pepper and a little garlic powder. I added a little green bell pepper and lots of mushrooms. Had it with mashed potatoes. Thanks for the recipe!
