The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY, October 3, 2017

Outside my window ...
Its cold and dark and the air is filled with the sound of birdsong. Mostly sparrows. I don't mind sparrows. When I was a child my favourite song to sing was "God Sees the Little Sparrow Fall." Sparrows are a reminder to me of God's infinite love for all His creations.

I am thinking ...
About the Las Vegas shootings. We may not know the motivation behind this yet, whether it was political or not, religious or not, etc. As far as I am concerned no matter the motivation, this was an act of terror and a despicable thing. My heart aches.

In the Kitchen ...

Tuna & Broccoli Bake. Made with albacore tuna, broccoli, potatoes and other delicious ingredients.  We both loved this.  Yum!

On my "To Cook" list ...

BBQ Chicken Pizza. From  Will Cook For Friends.  This looks mighty tasty.

Good to know ...

I am creating ...

Working hard at finishing my blanket.  I wish I could show you the brilliance of the colours.  I am doing the border now.  I saw this  . . .

Which I really like.  I am trying to figure it out for myself at the moment.  The link goes to a dead end.

Afghan Sampler. Crochet along.  Love the idea of this.  From The Inspired Wren

Mini Almost Lost washclothes.  From Simply Notable. Make-up remover clothes made from bits and bobs of leftover cotton yarns.  Nothing gets wasted. Also better for the environment.

Mini Key Ring Purses.  A free download from Red Heart. Cute!

Knitted Fair Isle Mice, for the cool cat in your life.  These are adorable. A free pattern from Yellow, Pink & Sparkly.

I couldn't resist showing you this from Fuzzy Mitten. No pattern but so sweet. Great blog by the way.

I am reading ...

AMERICAN WIFE, by Curtis Sittenfeld
A kind, bookish only child born in the 1940s, Alice Lindgren has no idea that she will one day end up in the White House, married to the president. In her small Wisconsin hometown, she learns the virtues of politeness, but a tragic accident when she is seventeen shatters her identity and changes the trajectory of her life. More than a decade later, when the charismatic son of a powerful Republican family sweeps her off her feet, she is surprised to find herself admitted into a world of privilege. When her husband unexpectedly becomes governor and then president, she discovers she is married to a man she both loves and fundamentally disagrees with--and that her private beliefs increasingly run against her public persona. As her husband’s presidency enters its second term, Alice must confront contradictions years in the making and face questions nearly impossible to answer.

This is the second time I have read this. I enjoyed it so much the first time, I am reading it again. Very well written and engaging.

I am looking forward to ...
Our friends Tina and Tony are coming for a late lunch/early supper on Thursday. I am really looking forward to that.  I love them.  We might even get in a game of Scrabble!

Dreaming about ...

Pudding sofa's and chairs.  They look like you could just melt down into them.So many colours and fabrics to choose from  . . .  sigh . . .

  1. Hi, Marie! It's been a rough couple of morning, what with the heart-heavy news of the tragdey in Las Vega. It is hard to fathom such terrible, senseless, unfeeling acts. Terror it was, whatever brought it on. I pray for Las Vegas, for America... it many ways if feels like my home country is falling apart, and it makes me very sad. :( Your tuna bake and that bq pizza look delicious! I do so little makeup anymore, so it was interesting to see about the eyeshadows. I've not really worn eyeshadow in a couple years... LOL! Your blanket is wonderful--such happy colors!! That's a nice border you have in mind, and doesn't look to hard, either. That little knit sheep wearing pink dress is sooo CUTE! Nice tip with the candles & coffee beans...mmm... lONDON in autumn--wish we were there! ;) Thanks for all the brightness shared here, Marie--you so lift a day, and a heart! :) Happy Week, my friend ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

  3. IT is very sad for all involved in yesterday's tragedy in US..every time I hear of guns causing so much grief in, although not only in, the US it makes me all the more grateful that we are not armed in the UK....I don't like it at all when I am in the airport and see our policemen armed it makes me feel less secure to see them.....recently I have seen more policemen being armed and actually using their guns and later we quietly discover the ...victim....was not armed, as we had been lead to believe...
Hope your day warmed up as ours did. I've had a lovely quiet day., first day in a while I have not had a visitor in the morning and then this afternoon Mary is away on a canal boat trip up the ccanal with a cream tea included. So it's been bliss..I even sat out for about 15 mins whilst Mary was out for her walk with Lyn, they were out for an hour so must have gone a good walk...Lyn has a Guinea pig and she likes to collect fresh grass for it also dandelions and other grasses she said Masy looks at her as if she is mad LOL...they got a nice bag full today..
Peter will be in soon for dinner, he made it last night so I have just had it in the oven for last 65 mins. Should be nice and hot....hope your day has been a good one. NAny sign of the lady across the road ? Xxx

  4. Thanks Tracy! Pleased that you found some useful things here today! My heart aches for America, and the world right now. Our greatest tool is prayer. I believe prayer matters and will make a difference! xoxo

I don't know how anyone collects an arsenal like that either Monique. The mind boggles! I am going to try that pizza this weekend I think! Fingers crossed! xoxo

OH, how lovely that you got to enjoy a few hours on your own today Sybil! Now I am wondering what Peter made you for your dinner? No sign of the lady across the road, but I know she is there as the lights have been on. xoxo
