The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, August 8, 2017

Outside my window ...
It looks as if it will be a clear day.  The days are starting to get noticeably shorter.  Where we were going to bed in the light what seems like a few days ago, we are now having to turn on the lights when we do so, and the sun is up that little bit later in the morning . . .

I am thinking ...
Going to a funeral today of a man we both loved very much. Its going to be a hard day, but not as hard as it will be for his family.  😢

In the kitchen ...

Artichoke Chicken Quesadilla. So tasty. Had a bit of chicken leftover from the other night and this is what I came up with to use it all.  Very delicious!

On my "To Cook" list ...

Birthday Cake Bread with Crumb Topping. From Well Floured.  It looks good and is pretty. It sounds very tasty.

Good to know ...

From Aimee Today on Etsy.

I am creating ...

Midwestern Moms.  Crochet Ripple dishcloth.  Love this.  Another one for my stash!

From Northern Cottage, a ruffled apron tutorial.  Love it! One of the first things we sewed in Home Ec was an apron, but just a simple one. This one is very pretty.

Downloadable PDF tutorial/pattern for a Laundry Hamper Liner, from Perfect Pie Lady on Etsy.  Love this too!

Joann, a wooden snowman necklace for kids.  Cute!

Its a Heart Heart Season, with downloadable papers to make double sided origami stars.

I am reading ...

Before The Storm, by Diane Chamberlain
Fifteen-year-old Andy Lockwood is special.

Others notice the way he blurts out anything that comes into his mind, how he cannot foresee consequences, that he's more child than teenager. But his mother sees a boy with a heart as open and wide as the ocean.

Laurel Lockwood lost her son once through neglect. She's spent the rest of her life determined to make up for her mistakes, and she's succeeded in becoming a committed, protective parent—maybe even overprotective. Still, she loosens her grip just enough to let Andy attend a local church social—a decision that terrifies her when the church is consumed by fire. But Andy survives…and remarkably, saves other children from the flames. Laurel watches as Andy basks in the role of unlikely hero and the world finally sees her Andy, the sweet boy she knows as well as her own heart.

But when the suspicion of arson is cast upon Andy, Laurel must ask herself how well she really knows her son…and how far she'll go to keep her promise to protect him forever.

I just started this last night, so it is early days, but I have loved every Diane Chamberlain book I have read.

I am looking forward to ...
Getting today over with and hopefully having some nicer weather so that Todd and I can actually go somewhere and do something.

Dreaming about ...

Vintage tins  . . . love them . . .

Vintage stoves  . . .  especially blue ones  . . .

Frills beneath the sink  . . .

A breakfast nook  . . .

The country life  . . .

Something to watch ...

Based on the bestselling novel by master storyteller Nicholas Sparks, THE LONGEST RIDE centers on the star-crossed love affair between Luke, a former champion bull rider looking to make a comeback, and Sophia, a college student who is about to embark upon her dream job in New York City’s art world. As conflicting paths and ideals test their relationship, Sophia and Luke make an unexpected connection with Ira, whose memories of his own decades-long romance with his beloved wife deeply inspire the young couple. Spanning generations and two intertwining love stories, THE LONGEST RIDE explores the challenges and infinite rewards of enduring love.

Makes me smile ...

Amanda, Cam and Maryn.  They are happy.  As a parent, when your children are happy, you are happy.

Corners of my kingdom ...

Entrance to Christ Church churchyard, Port Sunlight.   Port Sunlight is a village purpose-built by William Hesketh Lever of Lever Brothers fame, for his soap factory workers. Its a beautiful spot to visit.

And that's my daybook for this week!

  2. Wishing you much love today, Marie, as you and Todd go to the funeral ((HUGS)) Sorry to be slow catching up with you. TJ had a little time off last week. In between rain showers we tried to do some gardening. The days are getting a little bit shorter, have been noticing that since we turned to August. Summer seems to be softening, slowing down... LOVE those 21 daily habits. I do some already, but always room for "improvement" ;) Ooo... the frilly, ruffle apron is adorable! My apron, while nice fabric, is rather plain, a very "plain Jane"... maybe I need some ruffle?! LOL... Your current books sounds interesting, though a bit of a dark story. I've not read Diane Chamberlain before. LOVE all the vintage-y kitchen ideas. I've always liked those built-in breakfast nooks with bench seats. And this one with bookshelves and plate rack--WOW! I saw The Longest Ride on the Hallmark Channel--sweet story. :) LOTS of LOVE to you all there... ((BIG LOVE & HUGS))

Summer is slowing down and Autumn seems ready to race in. Not yet, I'm not ready! I like Diane Chamberlain books. I have read a lot of them! Love and hugs to you and TJ and Luna! xoxo

  11. I enjoyed reading your Daybook entry today. I must try the artichoke Quesadilla; yum! I really like the washcloth pattern, the cute aprons and especially the cute snowman necklaces. The books you read always look so interesting. I can't wait to read a real novel.
I liked the daily schedule too. I told Elder Williams that I wondered what it would be like to not have an agenda for the day.
I loved the photos of vintage decor; so fun. It does bring back memories.
the movie looked like a fun romance.
I really liked the photo of your sweet family.
Always, enjoy reading your thoughts! Sending love and hugs your way!
