A Day Book . . .

FOR TODAY, February 10th, 2026

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW ...

Not today (as I am too lazy to get up and snap a photo) but its still Winter.  Still lots of snow on the ground.  Still cold. The roads are quite clear, however.

I AM THINKING ...

About my daughter. It is hard to know how she is really feeling because I think she minimizes things and tries not to show it. Her husband had been in Tim Hortons, kissing and flaunting his "new" relationship.  I think it is very disrespectful.  My daughter went to Tim Hortons with one of her workers yesterday, but only through the Drive Through because she did not want to go in. I cannot say that I blame her. I think that she, my sister, my father and I should go one afternoon when he is there with his new love and sit right across from him and stare at him with the stink eye the whole time. But that would not be kind so we won't. We are not unkind people.

I AM ALSO THINKING ...

I do not blame him for wanting a new relationship or for falling "in love" with someone else.  People do that all the time (and in my opinion she is better off without him) but I do think he has been very disrespectful, thoroughly disrespectful. I know that both he and my daughter are developmentally challenged, but I am pretty sure he knows the difference between right and wrong and someone needs to tell him.

I AM GRATEFUL FOR ...

I am grateful that I am in the position to be able to help support my daughter through this trial.

I AM ALSO GRATEFUL FOR ...

Two of her friends are getting married this summer and the one will be leaving her apartment to move into his so her apartment will be free. It is just the right size and in just the right location. She will also be getting rid of a lot of her furniture, etc. as her husband's place is fully furnished.  This apartment is right across from the laundromat, across from the park and within easy walking distance of the store, the library, Eileen's church, the center of town and post office, etc. It is also on the ground floor. It sounds perfect. I am praying that she will be able to get it. God is good.

Guilt Free Chicken Strips

IN THE KITCHEN ...

Guilt Free Chicken Strips and Sweet Potato Fries. Loaded in flavor and texture but not calories.  These are low fat and delicious and very simple to make.

ON MY "TO COOK" LIST ...

This Colonial Williamsburg Queen's Cake looks right up my alley. From The Seasoned Mom. I love a good cake, but a cake loaded with raisins is my favorite kind!

THIS I BELIEVE ...

I know He has a plan and it is for us to succeed. We need to trust in that plan.

SOMETHING THAT IS NICE ...

The European Robin. They are just so cute and their song is beautiful. They are quite brave as well. You will often find them nearby when you are working in the garden just waiting for you to turn up a worm for them to pinch.

I AM READING ...

THE CORRESPONDENT, by Virginia Evans

“Imagine, the letters one has sent out into the world, the letters received back in turn, are like the pieces of a magnificent puzzle. . . . Isn’t there something wonderful in that, to think that a story of one’s life is preserved in some way, that this very letter may one day mean something, even if it is a very small thing, to someone?”

Filled with knowledge that only comes from a life fully lived, The Correspondent is a gem of a novel about the power of finding solace in literature and connection with people we might never meet in person. It is about the hubris of youth and the wisdom of old age, and the mistakes and acts of kindness that occur during a lifetime.

Sybil Van Antwerp has throughout her life used letters to make sense of the world and her place in it. Most mornings, around half past ten, Sybil sits down to write letters—to her brother, to her best friend, to the president of the university who will not allow her to audit a class she desperately wants to take, to Joan Didion and Larry McMurtry to tell them what she thinks of their latest books, and to one person to whom she writes often yet never sends the letter.

Sybil expects her world to go on as it always has—a mother, grandmother, wife, divorcee, distinguished lawyer, she has lived a very full life. But when letters from someone in her past force her to examine one of the most painful periods of her life, she realizes that the letter she has been writing over the years needs to be read and that she cannot move forward until she finds it in her heart to offer forgiveness.

Sybil Van Antwerp’s life of letters might be “a very small thing,” but she also might be one of the most memorable characters you will ever read.

I have only just started this.
