My Friday Finds . . .

A few of the things I find each week that pique my interest and inspire me to want to do, create, become, etc. Maybe they will also inspire you!

From Classic Elite Yarns,  a free pattern for this beautifully lacy shawl. So beautiful.

Daisy Farm Crafts.  Pink Gingham Baby Blanket.  A free pattern.

Yesterday's Charm.  Attaching Ric Rac using embroidery stitches.  I can't find any instructions for this, but if you look on the blog area, there are free downloads for day of the week kitchen towels, etc.

Yarn and Hooks.  Crochet mini back pack purse.

The Gunny Sack.  Unicorn Spa Jar gifts.  Cute!

Vintage Plates . . .   just because.  Love.  Love.

PomPom Snowman Wreath.  No instructions.  Just eye candy.  Love this.  Its so cute!  I think it would be quite easy to make!

How to join two pompoms to make a snowman.  Could not find the source.

Snow Globe Ornaments. DIY from Tatertots and Jello. These are so simple and cute and something you could make with your children.  Made by The Scrap Shopper.

This is just too cute. A Teacup Bell Ornament. What a great use for a Tea Cup that you no longer have a saucer for.  Complete tutorial. Also on Tatertots and Jello.

Thanksgiving Hat Centrepiece.  From Hip2Save.

Cardboard Tree. Jumpstart.   My wheels are turning on this one  . . .

Purely inspiration on this one.  I don't think we will have anyplace to put our Christmas Tree this year so I am racking my brains to find out something that I can do  . . .  wish we had more room!

And with that I will leave you with a thought for the day  . . .

BOOK OF MORMON CORNER - Today's Reading - 1 Nephi 15: 19-36
Question -What have you learnt from the reading today? What power is there in the scriptures?
What I learnt - I feel like the scriptures we have read so far have really taught us the importance of knowing the scriptures. One of the first things the Lord showed Lehi was the scriptures, and the Angel took a lot of time showing Nephi the importance of the scriptures in the conversion of the Lords people. Nephi gets it!! and uses the scriptures to teach his brothers. And they were pacified and humbled after a dose of Isaiah. They wanted to understand more and they asked.....Nephi.  The power of scriptures is to the conversion of the soul. Not just in terms of initial conversion but even to those who are seeking to change their ways. None of us are perfect. The scriptures help us to understand the truths of the gospel. I believe that our imperfections can be changed by learning the simple gospel truths, the plain and precious things and by applying the things we have learned in our lives. When we learn truths, and we are willing to listen, the Spirit testifies to us by a burning in our bosom (metaphorically speaking). This spirit can change hearts and minds and it lives in the words of the scriptures.
Tomorrow's Reading (Day 22) - 1 Nephi 16:1-16
Question - What have you learnt from the reading today? When you've had to journey through your own trials, what gifts did Heavenly Father give you to succeed?

In the English Kitchen today  . . .  Cheeseburger Quesadillas.  Oh boy, oh boy  . . . .  these are too, too good.

Have a wonderful Friday!  One more day and I am a published author!  Shivers . . . I am off to the Doctors this morning to talk about the results of my having worn the Blood Pressure cuff for 24 hours.  I predict it won't be good news.  They called me back to come in right away.  Sigh  . . . Don't forget!

  1. Hi, Marie--Happy Friday! How did this week go so fast?! LOVELY crochet & craft projects today--as always! That shawl at the top is lovely... I have a weakness for yarn-y shawls...VERY clever the rick rack & embroidery--so simple, so beautiful. VERY fun--the unicorn goodies jar! That vintage suitcase made over into a sewing case is wonderful---*swoon*... Those pom pom snowmen are just adorable! HOORAY on your book, Marie!! SO very happy and excited for you as you celebrate this great, long-time achievement! We LOVE you!! And prayers flying your way, and all will be well as your visit with the doctor today... 2. Hi Marie, I was astonished and sad realizing that the price of you book is 45.97 Pounds + the VAT and shipping expenses. I very much wanted to buy your book but I think it is only for rich people.I surely cannot afford it.It is more expensive of any other kitchen book I see. So I decided to buy the kindle version.Pity because I think it will loose a lot but this is life. Some things are just for rich people !!

  3. Hi Marie, lovely finds as usual! I have just bought a smaller Christmas tree as the one I had was just too big for the flat. We had to remove so many branches to get it in the lounge last year! I have donated it to the flats as there is a large foyer and it will look really nice in there. Plus everyone who knows me will tell you how much I love that tree so at least I still get to see it!

I'm off for a hearing test this afternoon as I've noticed things aren't as good as they used to be. It's rubbish this growing old malarkey, but better than the alternative!!

Thinking of you and your doctors appointment. Good luck! Lot's of love xxx

  4. I know Tracy, this week has just flown by! It’s evaporated! Happy you like some of my finds, I thought you would! I admit I am very proud of my book. I worked very hard on it and it has been a long time coming! I hope that people like it. I have been given an additional blood pressure tablet. The machine showed that in the 24 hours I had it on, it only very rarely was normal. Most times my blood pressure was in the red area, even when I was sleeping ( not that I got much sleep!) Love and hugs to you all there in your wee corner of the world. Xoxo

I am so sorry to disappoint you Carla.Unfortunately,I do not set the price for the book. The publisher does. It is a really big book. I bought the latest book by Nigel Slater this week, and it has only 100 recipes in it and is half the size, with much fewer pictures. It cost £26.99. I know I am not Nigel Slater, but my book has over 500recipes in it, lots of coloured pics, plus all you would ever need to know as far as kitting your kitchen, larder, bake cupboard, etc. out and how to organise everything including your freezer, plus an extensive section on ingredients, substitutions, make your own mixes, etc. I wrote it so that people on both sides of the pond would find it useful and in such a way that even relatively in-experienced cooks would find value in it, much like my blog. I thank you very much however, for buying the kindle version, and can appreciate your difficulty in being able to buy the print version. That you bought it at all is very much appreciated. In truth I make much more from the Kindle version than the print version, so thank you.

Shipping is free for Amazon Prime members by the way.

I am glad you will still get to see your tree Kate! Getting old is not for sissies for sure. I think I will be needing a hearing test soon myself! Love and hugs, xoxo

  6. Hope the doctors visit isn't quite so terrible. Hopefully whatever it is can be fixed with some meds. I did love the suitcase sewing basket. I have one that I've been meaning to use for that purpose and the picture gave me some great ideas on how to do that. Sorry I've been missing for a few days and hope to do better on commenting in the future.

  8. Oh my dear Marie, I loved all of the Friday Finds. I wish I had time to do some of them. I think I will at least save the links on a few of them to maybe get to do later.. I loved the Thanksgiving Hat and I might try it.
The photo that stole the show was the Baby; her outfit was so adorable.
I do enjoy reading about your thoughts on The Book of Mormon. I love that you are doing this.
I am super excited about your book being published.
I do hope you are OK and that your Blood Pressure can be controlled well.
