Dear Neighbor,
It is hard to believe that we are soon going to be in the last week of August, and into the month of September. It seems the summer has gone by quite quickly. I do not mind overly much as I do love the Autumn months. They are my favorite time of year.
I managed to get quite a close photo of one of the hummingbirds at the feeder yesterday. A female. I do have a number of them that come. I think four. It is hard to tell as they fly back and forth so quickly, but this appears to be the dominant one and she chases everyone away if she can. She is quite the force to be reckoned with!
The Guinea Fowl have been here every morning this week. Yesterday they were right in front of my front deck but had moved to the drive before I could get my camera ready to snap a shot. I don't know who they belong to, but they are really quite noisy when they are about. I don't mind the noise. It is really far too quiet on this street, and the cats were thrilled to see such a large bird up so close.
My next-door neighbor on the other side stopped by to ask if she could place her green bin on the edge of the far right of my lawn, which would be right outside her garage door. She has gotten a small one delivered by the town. I said of course I do not mind in the least. She said I was free to use it if I want to. That was very generous of her, but I am not sure if I will. Compost is such a personal thing, and she might not like how I package mine up for disposal, etc. I would not want to offend anyone.
I believe these are storks. I remember seeing quite a few of them when I visited Strasbourg in the Alsace region of France a number of years back. There were quite a few of them and a special spot for nesting set up in the Parc de l'Orangerie. I had never seen storks before. It was quite fascinating.
Strasbourg itself was a fascinating city.
One of the places visited was the cathedral. Inside the cathedral was an Astronomical Clock, a Renaissance masterpiece. It reached all the way up to the ceiling of the cathedral. I had never seen such a large clock. The main attraction of the clock was its animated figures which come out to delight the public every day at 12:30 pm. During this performance, visitors are treated to views of the different ages of life, personified by a child, a teenager, an adult and an old man, all who parade past Death. Higher up the apostles have their own parade, before Christ. They journey is accompanied by the beating of wings and the sound of a large cock crowing. In front of the clock one can admire the huge Pillar of Angels, which offers a highly original representation of the Last Judgement.
The number of people packed into the cathedral just to see the clock itself was phenomenal. And they usher you all out before 12:30 because you have to pay to see the performance of the clock. I can remember feeling quite claustrophobic. We were jammed like sardines and barely crawling on our way out. We had been warned to beware of pickpockets so that added to the feeling. We did not pay to go back in and see the clock in action.
I have been truly blessed to have been able to see all the things that I have seen over the years, however. I cannot complain!
When I was living down south in the U.K. one of the ladies from our church gave a small course in Public Speaking. (She also happened to be a good friend of mine.) That course was invaluable, and I really enjoyed it. It has stood me in good stead all of these years.
I wish I could give a talk like some do, without having it written down in front of me, but alas, I am not that great at it. I need my notes!
Hopefully I won't put anyone to sleep.

There are many things I miss about the U.K., but I am very grateful to be here in Canada now, and near my family. I really missed them when I was living over there. It was not ideal.
Today we will be taking our dad out this afternoon with his friend Maryann. Cindy and I usually run a few errands together while they have their visit. I had meant to get a case of wet cat food when I was out the other day, which I forgot so I will have to get some of that today. I hope that I don't forget again!
They have gone off their dry food for some reason. They are only picking at it. When I crack open their wet food, they are ecstatic!
And of course, the cat treats. You can't live on cat treats. They are supposed to be rare and a treat!

We are supposed to get some high winds this afternoon. That is all we are getting from the Hurricane to the south of us. Any rain will be dropped offshore, and we will only experience high waves and wind. As far as I know the fire is not growing. There are fires burning all over North America. Climate change. How can anyone deny it. And yet there are many that do.
I was thinking about microplastics last night and how for many years they have been in our body scrubs, etc. washed down the drains and into the environment. I do not use body scrubs. I have bought them in the past, but the idea of those plastics going into the water table, earth, etc. really puts me off. I try really hard these days to be more environmentally aware as I am sure most people do. Or at least I hope that most people do. There will always be some who do not care.
This early Autumn we are experiencing because of the drought is throwing me off kilter. I am not a fan.

Because I have a ROKU television I have access to the ROKU channels. I have been enjoying watching a lot of the older sitcoms on there, as well as on TUBI and some of the other free streaming channels (whose names escape me at the moment! huh!) You can watch Andy Griffith, Hazel, Leave it to Beaver, Cheers, etc. I saw the other day where The Golden Girls will be starting, and I have been enjoying Who's the Boss this week. I can remember watching Who's the Boss when my children were very young. I can remember wishing I had a lovely house like that. It was the epitome of luxury to me. And of course, Angela's wardrobe always seemed to be so stylish. I also loved the Golden Girl's house.
I grew up in Military housing for the most part and spent a great deal of my adult life living in it as well. Because our father was a junior rank, our homes were always very tiny for the most part. We did not really know anything different, and we did not feel deprived.
Someone was telling me that it was required now that legally people have a separate bedroom for each child. Is this true? I do not know how they could enforce such a thing.
In any case I have gone on long enough this morning and not really said too much of anything. I must be off and about my day. I have a ton of things to do before I go to pick up dad at 12:30.
A thought to carry with you . . .

In the English Kitchen today, Easy Ham & Corn Scallop. This is an old, old recipe that we have been enjoying in my family for many years. Not always with ham in it. Often no ham at all and just as a side dish. It is delicious any way you choose to enjoy it. Simple. Easy. Comforting.
I hope you have a lovely Friday. Whatever you get up to, I hope it brings you joy and peace. Don't forget!
