"The world is fairly studded and strewn with pennies cast broadside
from a generous hand. But who gets excited by a mere penny?...It is
dire poverty indeed when a man is so malnourished and fatigued that he
won't stoop to pick up a penny. But if you cultivate a healthy poverty
and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day,
then, since the world is in fact planted with pennies, you have with
your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. what you see
is what you get." ~Anne Dillard
A few of the small and
wonderful things which bring untold joy into my life. It's the small
things in life which truly mean the most. Simple abundance . . . it's
the best.
There is a huge lilac bush that I can see from my bedroom window to the back of us across the vacant lot. It is in bloom a the moment and is just so, so, so beautiful. I catch a smell of it every time we walk past it on our morning walk. I adore lilacs. If I thought this was going to be my forever home I would have Todd put in a couple of lilac bushes. Mom had one outside her licing room window. She loved to sit in her rocker by the window when it was in bloom and often spoke of it to me. Lilacs are a love that we shared.
The peonies are in bloom as well. We don't have any right in our garden, but I have always wanted a peonie bush. They are so beautiful. Ariana has some and they are gorgeous. I think Peonies are her favourite flower actually. When I lived in Suffield, Alberta, the whole back of our house was bordered with peonies. quite simply stunning. We had holly hocks all along the side of our house as well. Also stunning.
Fresh Biscuits . . . I could eat these every day. Such a simple thing. So delicious. I think I like them better than bread and that is saying a lot because I love bread.
I love my relationship with the Saviour. I can feel His power in my life continuously. I have loved Him all of my life. I am so grateful for parents that taught me to pray from a very young age and to trust in Him and my Heavenly Father.
Surprise packages filled with beautiful fruit to enjoy and chocolate and other goodies. It felt very nice to know we were thought of . . .
Beautiful fresh tomatoes. They have been bringing me pleasure for several days now. I have been enjoying lovely tomato sandwiches and yesterday I did a Roasted Tomato Sauce with some. Gorgeous . . . I had not made this sauce since I worked at the manor. It brought me great pleasure then and it brought me great pleasure now.
Fresh Asparagus. An annual springtime splurge. I adore asparagus. I enjoy it every spring time. It is at its best at this time of year. I never had it when I was a child. I was an adult before I got to try and to enjoy it. I fell in love.
We've finally been given online grocery delivery slots. I had one for last Saturday and I have another one for this Saturday coming. I am super happy with the meat and fresh veg/fruit we have been getting every couple of weeks from the city farmers market. Excellent quality. But its the other things I was worrying about. Things like dogfood, dish soap, laundry soap, toilet paper, flour, sugar, etc. You still can't get much in the way of flour, but everything else seems to be okay and available. One less thing to worry about.
My sister. I love her so very much. She's had a couple of really crappy years. I wish I could do more for her. She took such good care of mom and now dad. She helps out Eileen when she can. This means more than the world to me. If only I could win the lottery . . . she would never have to worry about anything financially again.
Beautifully sunny days which have made recent events much easier to bear. I dread to think of what the mood would be like had we not been experiencing such beautiful weather along with it. Sunny skies and warmer temperatures mean we can spend more time outside. We are so blessed to have an outdoor garden that we can enjoy. For those in apartments it must be much more difficult, unless they have a balcony.
Those are my small and wonderfuls for this week. We keep trucking along. God is good and all of our needs are being met. We cannot complain.
A thought to carry with you . . .

I hope it works out well for you Monique! They have it down to an art here in the UK. They have been doing it for many years now. Some shops are better than others. I use Ocado and everything is exemplary. Happy Day to you and J. xoxo
DeleteI so love Lilacs and their smell. We have a lilac tree, but for some reason not as fragrant this year. I want another one in our yard. I would love Peonies too.
ReplyDeleteI do love biscuits and we have them often.
I always love reading your testimony of the Savior; it strengthens mine.
Tomatoes and Asparagus are favorites of mine too.
I'm so happy that you are getting the fresh foods you want. We still have some items we have a hard time getting but in general we can get all we want. We truly are blessed.
I too wish you could see your Sister more and be near. I never had one, but always wanted a sisters. both my Brothers have passed and I really miss them.
We have had beautiful weather here too; which has been so nice.
Sending loving thoughts and hugs!
We can't get vanilla, at least not very affordable vanilla and of course flour continues to be a problem. I am sorry your brothers have passed. Two of my children barely contact their siblings at all. I wish they knew that their siblings are the only people in this world that they share a special history with. Love, hugs and blessings! xoxo
