The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, May 8th, 2018

Outside my window ...

I got all my soft herbs planted yesterday, there is another long trough of them on the other side of the pots.  I have two kind of thyme, chives, two kinds of sage, oregano, lavendar, rosemary, sweet woodruff, lemon verbena, and sorrell. I will have to plant my basil from seed.

I am thinking ...
We had such a beautiful weekend weatherwise.  It was a lovely bank holiday weekend and I hope there is more to come.  Warm and sunny days that is.  You cannot beat being in England on a warm, sunny day. It is the most beautiful place on earth.

In the kitchen ...

Today I am talking about how to make the best Pasta Salads ever with a trio of delicious choices and all of my tips.

On my "To Cook" list ...

I am reading ...

After You Left, by Carol Mason

You want to know what the worst thing is? It’s not the embarrassment, or the looks on people’s faces when I tell them what happened. It isn’t the pain of him not being there—loneliness is manageable. The worst thing is not knowing why.

When Justin walks out on Alice on their honeymoon, with no explanation apart from a cryptic note, Alice is left alone and bewildered, her life in pieces. Then she meets Evelyn, a visitor to the gallery where she works. It’s a seemingly chance encounter, but Alice gradually learns that Evelyn has motives, and a heartbreaking story, of her own. And that story has haunting parallels with Alice’s life.

As Alice delves into the mystery of why Justin left her, the questions are obvious. But the answers may lie in the most unlikely of places…

Just beginning this.

Looking forward to ...

Feeding the Missionaries later today.  Love having them in our home.  They always leave such a lovely spirit with us.

  1. Hi Marie, great daybook. I love pasta salad, I think I could actually live on it! I'm trying to cut down on my carbs though, so difficult.

I love Bath, Sybil is so lucky! I have been a few times but my favourite is the Christmas markets. They are the best I've been to in the UK. It's the whole atmosphere of the place that makes it special.

What a glorious weekend it's been! Here in New Brighton it has been chocca block! All the beaches have been full with day trippers, it's lovely to see it buzzing! There was a continental market for the weekend as well selling various things but mainly delicious food!

Have a lovely week, lot's of love xxx

    1. We will have to make a trip to Bath for the Christmas markets Kate, and to New Brighton for the continental market. Do they have it every weekend? I would love that! Love and hugs, xoxo

  2. Hi, Marie! LOVELY to see all you have growing there for this spring/summer season! We've been in the garden lots, adding new things, sowing veggie seeds... hope to share more soon. It's been so nice to have some warmer, sunnier days here lately too! Pasta salads...mmm...wonderful for warmer days! What a great idea is taht crocheted watch strap--pretty too! I love the look of crochet bags, but I find they sag a lot if they're made of cotton, so I stopped making them after two I had bit the dust... haha! Those Bridal Tea Bag favors are very sweet--so nice for a bridal shower. Your currently reading sounds mysterious, and a little sad... How lovely you'll be feeding the Missionary boys today. :) LOVELY to see the German town where you once lived--beautiful place!! BATH one of the most beautiful place on this great earth...*sigh*... how we would love to go back there! :))) Wishing a great new week now, my friend! LOVE YOU SOOO MUCH, you know that??!! ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

  3. I too love pasta salads. They often make a meal for me. Glad you are having some warmer days. I hope to plant some herbs soon. I like having the fresh ones on hand for cooking. That quote at the end is true....having less stuff makes a difference. Hope you have a terrific Tuesday !

    1. I spoke too soon earlier Monique, the sun has disappeared and the temperature has dropped by about 10 degrees and it is going to rain. I had thought we might eat outdoors on the patio, but not now! I will have to check out Purple Chocolate Home. Is it a blog or on Instagram?? xoxo

    2. Both!!

And are you going to castle Cottage? I HOPE SO

    3. Following! I am so disappointed about Castle Cottage. I had a letter with a Mammo appointment and it is on the 11th. I was really disappointed. These appointments are like hen's teeth and with the history of BC in my family I can't miss it. I guess CC was just not meant to be. :-(

  5. Marie...can you come to Bath for the Christmas market ?..just read above that you maybe could...that would be my highlight of Christmas....forgot to tell you I have managed to get my new lightweight wheelchair..it's going to be great as it will now fit into anyone's car boot it's still very heavy I think but a man or strong woman could lift it without too much trouble. This means a promised visit next year to the US might be on the horizon !....sorry not to have commented last few days but you know how it is. I keep having to go back days to find the blog address. Xxxx
