My favourite things . . .

These are some of the things in life that I enjoy and which make me happy, inspire me, or put a smile on my face. Maybe some of them are yours too.  Lets share!

Recipes from old magazines.  I have a bazillion of them clipped out and stored in my big blue binder. They are a wonderful peek into the history of cooking/food/recipes from the early 1960's onward.  They are also great inspiration for creating new recipes with modern twists.  A lot are also still really viable and family favourites.

Old photographs.  Who were these people?  What was their story . . .  everyone has a story.  What were their hopes, dreams, etc.  They fascinate me.

Old bottles and jars. This one is particularly fascinating with its bee hive, etc. My Uncle Harold collected old bottles and jars.  He had a whole room dedicated to it.

Millinary Flowers.  They are very difficult to find today. I haven't seen any in a long time.  I would love to have some for my crafting.

Baby deer . . . . fawns . . .  Bambi.

Old German Barometers.  My ex MIL had one and it fascinated me.  She would check it every day.  I am not sure what it did, but it sure was pretty.

Freshy shelled peas  . . .  raw.  They are so delicious.  So, so delicious.  You have to grow a lot of peas to get anything I have learned, but they are one of my favourite things.

Bunnie rabbits.  They're so cute.  So soft and cuddly looking. Adorable.

Cutsie slippers . . .  love them.  I like wearing slippers indoors. They feel like home-sweet-home, and if they are cute slippers, so much the better.

Long Hot Soaks  . . .  I used to love bringing a book in with me and just relaxing in a hot tub of water and reading.  No more of those for me as we no longer have a bathtub, just a shower.

Pretty soap . . .  luxury soap . . .

Soap that's too pretty to use and spoil  . . .  they had pretty soaps like these at the Manor  . . .

The linen cupboard was filled with them.  So pretty and they smelled so nice. Each one wrapped in tissue  . . .  I love pretty soap.

Beatrix Potter anything  . . .

Fountain pens  . . .

Ornithology  . . .  the study of birds.  I love watching birds, watching television programs about them, feeding them, etc. I find birds fascinating and they bring me so much joy.  I hate to see birds in cages.  I want to open all the doors and let them fly away . . .

White picket fences  . . .  oh how I would love to have one. Alas, my husband is no carpenter and we cannot afford to hire one . . .

My favourite of all colour combinations.
Red, white & Blue.

And those are my favourite things for this week. What are some of yours?

A thought to carry with you   . . .

BOOK OF MORMON CORNER

Today's ReadingMosiah 29:33-47
Question - What have you learned from reading Mosiah? And what have you learned from the examples of King Mosiah and Alma?

Thoughts -  One thing that stood out for me is the importance of righteous leaders "Wherefore, ahonest men and wise men should be sought for diligently, and good men and wise men ye should observe to uphold; otherwise whatsoever is less than these cometh of evil." D&C 98:10

At the moment in the Old Testament I have been reading about King Solomon. He turned out to be the epitome of what King Mosiah was talking about. Whereas King Mosiah remained righteous to the end. His heart was focused on walking the Lord's way and pointing his people in the same way. Alma is a great example to me of someone who stood for what was right, who feared God more than man, who felt the pull to change and did it! Then he spent the rest of his life teaching and converting others.

Tomorrow's Reading (Day 136) -  Alma 1:1-14
Question What have you learnt from the reading today? What can we learn from Gideons testimony?

Baking in the English Kitchen today  . . .  Apricot & Honey Muffins.  Delicious!

Have a beautiful Thursday.  The sun is shining brightly here today, makes me want to dance!  I see a beautiful Spring day  . . .  don't forget along the width and breadth of your day  . . .

  1. Hi Marie, back to normal and catching up today! Hope you had a good Easter.

Our Easter weekend was stressful although we were happy to see Christian. He is growing so fast. We were hoping to have him here for a week this month but that's not going to happen now. They both change their mind like the wind!

Going out for a long walk today to blow the cobwebs away and to make the most of the sunshine!! Lot's of love xxx

  3. My favorite for today has to be long soaks in the tub and good smelling soaps. One of life's simple pleasures for sure. Very relaxing indeed, but most of the time I'm taking a shower too. Although we could have snow this morning, right now the sun is shining here too.

  4. Hi Marie~

Everything was just wonderful in this post! Just the other day, I went through a bunch of magazines and cut out the recipes...one of life's small pleasures.

At the DUP (Daughter's of Utah Pioneers) museum, there are so many beautifully framed photos, and some of them are unidentified. I can't even imagine giving away a beautiful portrait of one of my ancestors, but they say it happens everyday - so sad!

Oh, remember those cute little millinery flowers! I loved them so much, and used to use them for bouquets in my Barbie houses - which of course were just made of whatever I could find, I didn't ever have a real Barbie house.

I love little porcelain animals - I have several that I cherish! Bob has a little set of whales, that his great aunt sent him from Alaska. She died this year, and he never even had a chance to meet her.

Today, Cole started fussing and wanted outside, when I let him out he immediately ran to the shed to chase a cute little bunny that had made it's way into the yard. Yes, I called him back! Heaven forbid I let him harm it... :0)

Nothing like a good soak in the tub, with some beautifully scented soap...what a wonderful thing. I don't bathe very often, I prefer showers, but when I am sick, a good soak always makes me feel better...I'm so sorry you don't have a tub, but you still need yummy soap!

Beatrix Potter...love her work! I remember fountain pens, I wonder if anyone still uses them? When I drew more often, I loved using pen and ink!

Red, white and blue, some of my favorite colors in a floral arrangement as well. Soon there will be big baskets hanging in all the stores, I can hardly wait! My kids and Bob usually give me a big hanging basket of flowers for, Mother's Day, and I always love them.

In the church, we have such good examples of wonderful, righteous men to look up to. I am always so amazed at, President Nelson's stamina and good mind, what a wonderful man, he reminds me of Alma and Mosiah.

Have a wonderful day! Much love to you!

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb
