The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, June 13, 2017

Outside my window ...
Early morning overcast, but the kind you know is going to burn off and leave you with a sunny day in its wake.  Cool, but not cold.

I am thinking ...
Eileen and Tim won't be able to come this year.  Their television broke and they have had to buy a new one, so their trip has been put off until next year.  I have no doubt eventually they will get here. Its probably better putting it off until next year I guess, what with all we have been through this year.  Give Todd lots of time for recuperation, and then we can have some  money saved to show them a good time.

In the kitchen ...

Mother's Creamy Tomato Soup.  From a restaurant/Bistro named Mothers.  Not my actual mother.  This is pretty good. Excellent actually. A tad bit faffy, but well worth the effort.

On my "To Cook" list ...

Real Taco Pie from BS Recipes.  This is intriquing.  It has a potato crust.

Good to know ...

Homemade "all natural" bug spray. From Designer Trapped. Sounds good!

I am creating ...

How to make Sea Glass Lanterns.  From Princess Pinky Girl. I love Sea Glass.

How to crochet for beginners.  From Hopeful Honey.

Everyday Tote.  Free pattern from Red Heart on Ravelry.

Mini Pocket Page Tutorial.  From October Afternoon.

Red Ted Art  How to make Black Glue for Glue Painting Art.

I am reading ...

Finding Gobi, by Dion Leonard, the true story of a little dog and an incredible journey.

Like A Streecat Named Bob before it, Finding Gobi is a truly heart-warming story for animal lovers worldwide…

In 2016, Dion Leonard, a seasoned ultramarathon runner, unexpectedly stumbled across a little stray dog while competing in a gruelling 155 mile race across the Gobi Desert. The lovable pup, who earned the name ‘Gobi’, proved that what she lacked in size, she more than made up for in heart, as she went step for step with Dion over the treacherous Tian Shan Mountains, managing to keep pace with him for nearly 80 miles.

As Dion witnessed the incredible determination of this small animal, he felt something change within himself. In the past he had always focused on winning and being the best, but his goal now was simply to make sure that his new friend was safe, nourished and hydrated. Although Dion did not finish first, he felt he had won something far greater and promised to bring Gobi back to the UK for good to become a new addition to his family.

This was the start of a journey neither of them would ever forget with a roller coaster ride of drama, grief, heartbreak, joy and love that changed their lives forever. Finding Gobi is the ultimate story of hope, of resilience and of friendship, proving once again, that dogs really are ‘man’s best friend.’

Wonderful!

I am looking forward to ...
Getting away from it all. We haven't been on a holiday in years and years.

Dreaming about ...

  1. Hi Marie. You must be so disappointed that Eileen and Tim aren't coming over now, you were so looking forward to it. But as you say it may be a blessing in disguise with everything that's happened. Anyway you need to get your knee sorted so you can run around showing them everywhere!

I thought of you last night. We started watching Cardinal (It's on BBC iPlayer) last night. It's a detective 6 part series about a serial killer, but it was set in snowy Canada! Not far from Toronto I think. It was good, but be warned, there are some gruesome bits!!

Have a good day and hope your knee is feeling better. Go and see the doctor before you go away, if only for some pain relief. Lots of love xxx

  2. Good morning Marie. It seems as if my part of the world is having a winter. IT is still cooler with grey skies and rain. I am loving it.

I am so sorry that Eileen and Tim cannot come to visit this year. I am sure you are all very upset and wish things were otherwise. You are right that this wait gives Todd some more time to rest and recover. Please enjoy your upcoming break. You deserve a break.

I look forward to trying those recipes. They look so edible and suitable for the weather we are experiencing at present.

    God bless you both.

  3. I am Kate, but I also know that next year will be better for all of us. Their television is their main form of entertainment, so I don't blame them for wanting to replace it. Next year still gives us something to look forward to and something for us to save for, and yes for my knee to get better, etc. I will have to check that program out on the iPlayer. It sounds right up our alley! xoxo

I bet you are revelling in the cooler temperatures Suzan! How wonderful for you! I am planning on enjoying every minute of the holiday that I can, no matter what! xoxo

  5. So sorry to hear that your daughter cannot make it but it's nice you have your holiday to look forward too. I have a little cart very similar to what is shown in one of your pictures with the flowers in it. Now I have a new idea of what I can do with mine. It's usually just a catch all for all sorts of things.

I am sorry that Eileen and Tim can't come this year although you rightly say that next year may be better I expect you as well as they themselves are dissapointed, pity they coudnt get a TV a bit cheaper but that's just a pie in the sky idea !!!....hope your sunshine did get out just as ours did. 7. I am glad you are getting the hang of it Monique. With practice you will get better and better! All of my daughter and her husband's money is controlled by my ex husband and her MIL, so apparently with the new tv and then the Nationals Special Olympics which they also have to pay for this summer, they are short. It is probably better though that they wait a year. Things will be on a more even keel then! We had an old black and white TV we hauled from the garbage. I remember using a hanger for an antennae! lol xoxo

Yay Pam, I am happy you will have found another use for your little wheeling cart! Happy days! xoxo

That's a for sure Sybil! I would rather be there early than late also! We had some lovely sunshine yesterday and today has started off sunny as well! Hope it stays with us for the trip! Love and hugs. xoxo

  8. I always love how you do recognize and love the small blessings. I enjoyed your Daybook entry. I am sorry to hear that your daughter can't come. We are having family event and my oldest daughter can't come. She lives in Australia. She has been the planner behind the event; so I feel sad she can't be here.
It is expensive to travel in today's world. We certainly haven't done a lot of traveling in quite a few years except for a few trips to kids who don't live too far away.
I always enjoy the decor that you dream about. I dream about similar items.
I think the book looks like a good one. My husband is an animal lover and I am too. I think he would enjoy the book.
Your food items always look yummy and I wish I had time to make some of the dishes.
Well my dear, wishing for you extra sweet days! Blessings and hugs~
