Saturday meanderings of the mind . . .

 photo imagejpg3_zpsf4a6852d.jpg
In the winter time all life in our home seems to be centred around the fire in the lounge.  Nobody strays very far from it's warmth and comfort.   In the summer, however . . .  life flows outward and spreads itself around . . .

You can find us either dead heading in the garden . . .  watching the fish in the pond . . .  reading at the patio table beneath the umbrella . . .  hanging out laundry . . .  washing the car . . .  mowing and trimming . . . picking berries . . . or in the kitchen putting up all that we have grown.

Unless of course it is raining.

And in that case all semblence of summer activity comes to a halt, and we are centered around the lounge again, as in winter . . .  only difference being there is no fire to enjoy . . .  and everyone takes on a sort of a pouting longing look.   We all know that summer is short in this country and for bad weather to steal one day from us . . . well . . . it disappoints.  We know it will be all too soon that we will be relegated to enjoying our lives in this one room, and Mitzie will be  harrumping on the sofa, sighing with boredom as her little kingdom narrows once again to just one room.

But we won't think of that will we . . .

Not when there are green corn moons to enjoy and berries to pick.

And  pansies still dancing by the back door . . .

And laundry sputtering on the line in the summer breezes . . .

And peas to pick and shell . . .

 photo image_zps9de7983a.jpg

And radishes to enjoy, fresh from the soil . . .  with some salt and buttered bread . . .

 photo image_zps3d539d55.jpg

And bumbley bees to enjoy as they bumble amongst the flowering herbs . . .  what does honey flavoured with thyme taste like . . . I wish I knew . . .

 photo image_zpsde134d62.jpg

And butter to fly . . .  oh the butterflies . . .

 photo image_zps1614f529.jpg

And figs dripping with the winey flavour of summer sunshine to enjoy . . .

 photo image_zps5557cad4.jpg

And plates . . .  large white plates . . .  alive with every shade of green you can imagine.  Ours to enjoy and to savor . . . whilst we still can.

A thought to carry with you through today  . . .

“I almost wish we were butterflies
and liv'd but three summer days . . .
 three such days with you
I could fill with more delight
than fifty common years could ever contain.”

Oh that your Saturday will be filled with more bliss and joy and sunshine than the heart can possibly hold.   And butterflies . . .  you must have a few of those too.

  3. It sounds very pastoral Sybil! I don't know why summer always seems to drag it's heels to arrive and in a rush to leave us! But that is the way it is most years! xxoo

Suzan, I know you need the rain in OZ, especially where you are! Love you! xxoo

  4. The pictures are all beautiful today ! I'm thinking you did that with your watercolor app. I am trying very hard to enjoy these last summer days. Too soon we will be stuck here in the house. It's so lovely to be outside and I do relish these days. Hope you have a super Saturday and get outdoors !
