Small and Wonderful Things . . .

"The world is fairly studded and strewn with pennies cast broadside from a generous hand. But who gets excited by a mere penny? It is dire poverty indeed when a man is so malnourished and fatigued that he won't stoop to pick up a penny. But if you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted with pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. What you see is what you get." ~Anne Dillard

A few of the small and wonderful things which bring untold joy into my life. It's the small things in life which truly mean the most. Simple abundance . . . it's the best.

Having everyone over to mine for dinner on Saturday evening. No gnats to pester anyone. That problem has been solved and so I finally felt that I could have people over to eat a meal. It was nice to have them all here.  I baked a ham, made some tasty sides and Cindy didn't have to cook. I loved it.

Thanksgiving Dinner with the family. Cindy, Dan, Dad.  Cindy cooked a beautiful meal. She always does. Turkey, mom's stuffing, mashed potatoes, squash, sweet potatoes, broccoli. All delicious. All lovely.  Best part, sharing it with people that I love.

Church on Sunday morning. Partaking of the sacrament. Renewing my covenants. Feeding my spiritual battery. Listening to the talks, singing the hymns, etc. It's all good.  A great start or finish to the week, depending on how you see it.  Maybe both!

I just know I love being there.

Something I did back in 2011

I just love this time of year. The drawing in of the nights and the way things start to feel all cozy. The falling leaves as they dance across the street and onto my veranda. The smell in the air of woodsmoke (not wildfires) but woodsmoke from someone's chimney. The smell of fresh apples.  Its all good  . . .

Jane Goodalls video on Netflix. If you haven't seen it yet, you really should. What a fascinating woman she was.

Nature's cathedral  . . .

They make a house a home  . . .

Squash season  . . .  wasn't fond of it when I was a child. Can't get enough of it now.

Something to keep you warm.  One of life's great blessings.

Rainbow promises  . . .

The Gazebo by the River Dee in Chester. So grateful that I got to live in such a beautiful place for a time.  There would be little concerts given in the Gazebo in the summer months.

Tea and cake. One of life's great pleasures.

Autumn sunsets . . .

Pretty pillow covers  . . .

A roof over my head and a place to call home.  I am blessed. I hope I never take it for granted.

Life is good. I truly am living a life filled with abundance and I am grateful that I know it. Good music to listen to. Good books to read. Family to share it with. Loving and being loved. I have enough and enough is plenty. I live in a world of plenty.

Root Vegetable Gratin

In The English Kitchen today  . . .  Easy Cheesy Root Vegetable Gratin.  Such a simple thing and yet so elegant.  Pretty too, depending on the vegetables you choose.

I hope you have a week filled with abundance. Enough. Love. Peace. Joy. Whatever you get up to over the coming days, don't forget!

  1. A lovely weekend of good food and family time for you. We too had a wonderful time with family. Everything is shut today for the holiday so I will do some jobs around the house, make some soup and some cookies. Love that cat photo with the cat dish. Have a good Monday.
