A Day Book . . .

FOR TODAY, October 28th, 2024

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW ...

I took this photograph from my seat on the sofa late yesterday afternoon. The sky was a beautiful blue with just a few clouds and as you can see all the leaves have dropped pretty much. My sister still has quite a few still on the trees at her place. Peak viewing has passed now. We saw the most beautiful sight into Greenwood the other morning. There was a mist laying at the base of the North Mountain that we could see from the car. Neither of us had seen anything like that before. I just love nature, don't you?

I'VE BEEN THINKING ...

I got sent this video of a squirrel and his friend eating some really spicy chips yesterday and at first I laughed at it. I thought it was so funny.  The squirrel was hacking and gobbling down a glass of milk that had been left really close.  And these were the REALLY spicy chips.  Then I started thinking about it and how it was a bit cruel to do such a thing to an innocent animal. I know that squirrels are scavengers and can be really annoying and destructive, but it was quite mean to bait them in such a way and cause them to suffer. It really wasn't funny at all.

I HAVE ALSO BEEN THINKING ...

I am so grateful for my little companions. God knew what He was doing when He put them into my life. I cannot imagine them not being here now. They bring so much light and love into my life.

Potato Pudding

IN THE KITCHEN ...

Potato Pudding.  An old, old recipe for a delicious side dish made from potatoes, swede, carrots and onion. All grated and baked together with a couple TBS of cream and some seasonings. Quite simply delicious. A real testament to what can be done with a few things from the garden.

ON MY "TO COOK" LIST ...

Carrot & Ginger Lentil Soup.  From Feast Feather.  I need to incorporate more things like lentils into my diet. Lentils, legumes, barley water, coconut water, lemon juice, etc.  Hopefully I can take care of that remaining kidney stone naturally and prevent more from forming.

THIS I BELIEVE ...

Oh, I cannot imagine a life where I don't notice the things around me and feel some level of gratitude for them.

I AM READING ...

LIFE'S LESSONS LEARNED, BY Dallin H Oaks

President Dallin H. Oaks shares personal reflections in this riveting new book, recounting experiences that helped shape his life and pointing out the lessons he has learned. The book is divided chronologically into three major sections: childhood and youth, his years as BYU president and a justice of the Utah Supreme Court, and his service in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Elder Oaks speaks in a warm and candid way about such poignant experiences as being raised by a widowed mother, losing his wife to cancer, and making the transition to full-time Church service as a General Authority. The conclusions he draws illuminate major principles of the gospel in a universal and meaningful way.

I am about two thirds of the way through the book and am getting a lot out of it.

  1. Morning, Marie. Loved seeing all those pretty crocheted items. Makes wish I had learned to crochet. I love little cream pitchers, too, so cute. Hope you enjoy the socks. I got them at a church bazaar. They are hand knit, lovely and soft. Enjoy your day. Hope the kidney stone doesn’t act up. Love and hugs, Elaine

  2. Hello on this sunny day. It started out quite frosty, and like you I love how it changes plants and items. Pretty crochet patterns. Sock weather for sure now. Off to check out your potato pudding recipe. I have split pea soup cooking this morning. Enjoy Tuesday.
