The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, May 11, 2021

Outside my window ...
Its still quite early, but the sun is up and it looks like it will be a dry day today. I am watching woodpeckers and cardinals at the feeders across the street. I will have to get myself a bird feeder I think!

I am thinking ...
This is my very first post in my very first all just for me home. Its exciting. I am sitting here in my little place, the vacuum is making its way across the floor. I've already had my shower, washed my hair, etc. and am all set for the day.  What will it bring to the table?  We will have to wait and see!

I am thankful for ...
Everything and everyone that has gotten me to this point.  All the prayers, happy thoughts, gifts, etc. I can never ever begin to repay all of the many kindnesses which I have been blessed with over these past months.  I am so very blessed. I am so grateful for every thing, every blessing, each of you, my family, friends, my faith.

In the kitchen ...

Juicy Turkey Burgers. My first meal in my happily-forever-after home. They are delicious and built just for two.

On my "to cook" list ...

Sunday Supper Movement.  Mexican Street Corn Casserole. Looks yummy. I adore Mexican flavors!

One of my favorite things ...

Yankee Candle, Rice Milk & Honey.  It smells gorgeous.

I am wanting to create ...

Just a simple water color I had been working on for my home over the past weeks. Yesterday I sat and painted it. Its nothing special, but I might frame it and pop it onto a wall in my bedroom or spare room. We'll see.  Its not perfect by any stretch.

Your Crochet. I am loving the colors in this blanket.

Kathryn on Flickr.  Love these colors also. No pattern, but who knows, I might could figure it out. I will have to look for a footstool methinks.

A Quilting Life.  Quilt as you go placemats. I need some placemats. Maybe my next project after I finish dad's blanket.

Maryse Rowder on Ravelry.  Modern Vintage Pot Holders.  Lovely!

I am reading ...

The Daring Ladies of Lowell, by Kate Alcott

From the New York Times bestselling author of THE DRESSMAKER comes a moving historical novel about a bold young woman drawn to the looms of Lowell, Massachusetts--and to the one man with whom she has no business falling in love.

Eager to escape life on her family’s farm, Alice Barrow moves to Lowell in 1832 and throws herself into the hard work demanded of “the mill girls.” In spite of the long hours, she discovers a vibrant new life and a true friend—a saucy, strong-willed girl name Lovey Cornell.

But conditions at the factory become increasingly dangerous, and Alice finds the courage to represent the workers and their grievances. Although mill owner, Hiram Fiske, pays no heed, Alice attracts the attention of his eldest son, the handsome and reserved Samuel Fiske. Their mutual attraction is intense, tempting Alice to dream of a different future for herself.

This dream is shattered when Lovey is found strangled to death. A sensational trial follows, bringing all the unrest that’s brewing to the surface. Alice finds herself torn between her commitment to the girls in the mill and her blossoming relationship with Samuel.

Based on the actual murder of a mill girl and the subsequent trial in 1833, THE DARING LADIES OF LOWELL brilliantly captures a transitional moment in America’s history while also exploring the complex nature of love, loyalty, and the enduring power of friendship.

So far this is VERY good!  I am really enjoying it!

Looking forward to ...
Having my sister, Dan and Dad for Sunday dinner this week. I can't wait!

    1. I do love the early mornings, and I have always enjoyed my own company for the most part, so you are right about that. Loving it thus far. I did not get a roomba, but did get a robot vacuum. Because of my back and arthritis I have been unable to vacuum for a long time now. Todd always did it, and then I had a cleaner for the last year or so I was in the UK. It does an excellent job I have to say and is one of the few luxuries I allowed myself. Its magical to watch! What will we come to next? Oh and it also washes floors, but I haven't used that part of it yet! xoxo
