The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY, April 27, 2021

Outside my window ...
Its overcast and has been raining a bit. We do need the rain to be sure.

I am thinking ...
About how life can change completely from one year to the next. Completely unpredictable. So grateful for us not having crystal balls.

I am thankful for ...
Faith, family, friends.

A quick snap I took of what is going to be my new home from my car.  I did get to go inside yesterday along with my sister and the landlord.  Its small but nice.  The kitchen isn't huge, but I don't have a lot of stuff so I will be able to manage quite well I think. It will be comfortable for just me and the occasional guest.  There aren't a lot of windows so I think I will need to buy a light box. That's okay. I can leave it set up in the spare bedroom. Excited about my new future.

In the kitchen ...

Hearty Penne Beef.  Sorry for the bad photos. They were taken at night at supper time.  This was delicious however.  It got two thumbs up from the Dan man!

On my "To Cook" list ...

Caribbean Tacos. The Snappy Gourmet.

One of my favourite things ...

Dormer Bedrooms  . . .

Good to know ...

I know this to be true. It has proven to be true for me over and over again.

I am wanting to create ...

Crochet 'n' Create.  I've made a couple of these.

I love this. From Sharon Keightley Quilts.

Reddit. No pattern, just inspiration. Visible mending with embroidery.

Ravelry.  Love this cute little bear. Not free, but not expensive either.

Maybe for next winter.  A More Crafty Life

I am reading ...

The Darling Ladies of Lowell, by Kate Alcott

From the New York Times bestselling author of THE DRESSMAKER comes a moving historical novel about a bold young woman drawn to the looms of Lowell, Massachusetts--and to the one man with whom she has no business falling in love.

Eager to escape life on her family’s farm, Alice Barrow moves to Lowell in 1832 and throws herself into the hard work demanded of “the mill girls.” In spite of the long hours, she discovers a vibrant new life and a true friend—a saucy, strong-willed girl name Lovey Cornell.

But conditions at the factory become increasingly dangerous, and Alice finds the courage to represent the workers and their grievances. Although mill owner, Hiram Fiske, pays no heed, Alice attracts the attention of his eldest son, the handsome and reserved Samuel Fiske. Their mutual attraction is intense, tempting Alice to dream of a different future for herself.

This dream is shattered when Lovey is found strangled to death. A sensational trial follows, bringing all the unrest that’s brewing to the surface. Alice finds herself torn between her commitment to the girls in the mill and her blossoming relationship with Samuel.

Based on the actual murder of a mill girl and the subsequent trial in 1833, THE DARING LADIES OF LOWELL brilliantly captures a transitional moment in America’s history while also exploring the complex nature of love, loyalty, and the enduring power of friendship.

Reading it on my kindle.

Looking forward to ...
My new start. I met the lady from next door yesterday, although I do not remember her name. She seemed to be quite friendly. She had a pleasant smile. She said she has a small dog.  She told me she could put me in touch with a place that rehomes senior dogs. They pay all the vet bills, you only have to feed them and care for them. It sounds like a possibility.

Dreaming about ...

Pie  . . .

Hollyhocks  . . .

Nesting season  . . .

Spring lilacs  . . .

Pretty baking tins  . . .

Something to watch ...

Mare of Easttown.  One episode a week.  Have just watched the first one and am hooked.

    1. Thanks so much Elaine. I can move in as of the 1st of May, but won't actually be moving in on that day. I have a lot to get sorted before I can actually be in there. Probably more like the end of next week. A lot depends as well on when I can have the internet hooked up! Love and hugs. xoxo

  3. I love the looks of your new home. How nice to also have a garage for your car and perhaps some extra storage too. I can only imagine how excited you are.

  4. Your new "garden home" looks lovely and the garage will be a blessing in the winter. Their are so many senior dogs that become homeless due to their owners no longer being able to take care of them. It will be a lucky pup that finds a home with you. So happy for you and looking forward to the tales of the next page of your journey...Dianne
