Tapping into Joy . . .

“It is easy in the world to live after the world’s opinion;
it is easy in solitude to live after our own;
but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd
keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude.”
~Ralph Waldo Emmerson

Did you know that you already possess all the inner wisdom, strength and creativity you need to make your dreams come true? Trust me when I say it’s completely true. It’s just hard for us to find this wonderful power, we keep it so buried beneath all the things that run our everyday lives . . .

 Carpooling, dirty laundry, bills, household chores, work . . . the nasty truth is, that when we have a problem accessing our own personal power and inner resources, we have a tendency to look outside ourselves for them. These things outside ourselves are the things we begin to rely on to forge change in our lives as we move forward. We actually really don’t need to do that, for we already have all that we need inside us, all that we need to form a catalyst for change, all that we need to make us happy.

 I have often heard it said that “true happiness” lies within. I believe this to be true with every fibre of my being. All around me I see people struggling to find happiness and joy, but they are going about it the wrong way. They buy a new car, or some new clothes, possibly some new furniture, and while that may help to make them feel happy for a short time, it isn’t long before their soul starts to yearn for something else to fill the hole that reappears very quickly as soon as the newness wears off.

  Unfortunately, there really isn’t anything that we can buy that will bring about the change needed to make us truly happy and content. One of the major things that will help bring about an inner change that can help lead us to weave a tapestry of inner contentment and peace, well being and security . . . is gratitude.

A sense of thankfulness for all that we already possess, and by that I don’t mean the things of the world, or the things the world tells us we need to be happy. By that, I mean a mental and spiritual inventory of all that we have and possess inside ourselves and in our lives that already bring us joy. Our talents, our blessings, our health, our faith, our families.

When we begin to take stock of these precious things, we will realize that we are already quite wealthy in ways that money cannot possibly buy. Gratitude is the first step towards simplifying our lives.

We need to clear out and pare down in order to realize the essentials of what we need to well and truly live abundantly. With simplicity comes order, within and without. Order brings harmony and harmony provides an inner peace. The peace we need to feel inside in order to appreciate the beauty and reality that surrounds us every day. With beauty comes joy. Pure, unadulterated and crystal clear . . . joy.

 Begin today by taking a few minutes to reflect on all that you have in the way of talents and blessings, the beauty that surrounds you, loved ones that mean so much to you, much loved friends, house and home, work and play . . . and give thanks, Pure and simple thanks. Take the joy that is already yours. I try to do that every minute of every day. Admittedly on some days it is much easier to do that than on others.

This is a picture I took a few minutes ago of Venus! It was a really cold night last night and the skies were clear as a bell and filled with stars, which were still shining brightly when I got up this morning. Just a few minutes ago when I went to put Mitzie out I noticed this one star shining brighter than the rest so I tried to take a photo of it with my zoom lens.  (haha, I am so not a great photographer unless it is cake.)  I looked it up and it is Venus.

I splurged recently and bought myself a new notebook from an online site called Papier. There was an ad on IG and I clicked. I fell in love with the cover of this one. You could have them personalised so I had my name put on it, Marie Alice Joan. I probably should have had my name made bigger, but hey ho. Its here and I like it. Very Jane Austin I thought.

With that I will leave you with a thought for the day  . . .

*Happiness is a choice, not a result.
Nothing will make you happy
until you choose to be happy.
No person will make you happy
unless you decide to be happy.
Your happiness will not come to you.
It can only come from you.
