These are a few of my favourite things. Maybe some of them are yours
also! A few of the things which catch my eye, inspire me, pluck at my
heart
strings, make me smile, intrigue me or that I just plain enjoy. I hope that they will do the
same for you.
I love these bracelets by Willow Road on Etsy. She spells out words in morse code with coloured beads and sterling silver beads on bracelets and necklaces. My father was a ham radio enthusiast when we were growing up. We fell asleep many nights to the sound of morse code. Earlier this year I had Debbie do me a bracelet in black and silver for my sister with the word "courage" on it. These past few years have not been very good for her and if anyone needed courage it was she. Life just gets so darn hard at times. Anyways, I ordered it. It came here, and then Covid happened, so it sat here and sat here and sat here, and then I posted it to her the end of June, hoping it might be there for her birthday in early July. Nope. It never got there and it never got there . . . finally yesterday it did and I was so relieved! I had given it up for being lost in the post! I was so happy that she finally got it. Sending love to my favourite people is one of my favourite things. I maybe need to get myself one of these. I could use a little courage also I think. Love you sis!

Frozen Berries, especially strawberries. I use them to make strawberry smoothies, and I adore strawberry smoothies! A handful of frozen berries, a quarter of a banana (to give it a creaminess) and some skim milk, or a benecol cholesterol lowering drink and I am in strawberry smoothie heaven!
I am in love with this wee painting Monique sent me for my birthday! I am one of her biggest fans! I think her art is amazing. I just happened to have a little silver frame that I had picked up once upon a time and it fits inside it perfectly.THANK YOU Monique for sending me one of my favourite things, YOUR art! Yay! I feel special!
Fresh Croissants and I have some in the oven right now. These are Apricot filled croissants from Cornetti. I buy them frozen with my grocery order. Not all the time, but some of the time. They are gorgeous and a great way to kick off my birthday!
Emma Bridgewater mugs . . . my ex boss had a whole drawer full of them . . . I have only a few. If you buy seconds they are a whole lot cheaper. They may have tiny flaws, but you have to look really hard to find them.
I've slowly been building up my props for food photos. Not that my photos are that great, but, you know. I adore these cups and plates I got recently from a Scandanavian kitchen shop.
I also got these little cupcake cups. These were my Birthday Presents. The cups/plates/cupcake cups. Yes, I did get them early.
I am in love with this cute little robin mug. Hogben Pottery. On my wish list. I do like pretty little things.

Crazy Quilts . . .
Printed Glassware . . . you know, glasses with pretty pictures printed on them. Adore.
Right now I am super-missing this. Its corn season back home. What I wouldn't give for a nice hot cob of peaches and cream, slathered in butter! Its been 20 years since I have eaten good corn on the cob!
I don't know whose it is, but I am in love with this barn. I love barns. I always wanted to wander around the countryside taking photos of barns. Never did but that doesn't stop me from loving them and appreciating them. When we were driving through New Hampshire once upon a time, I noticed a lot of the barns were attached to the houses! Cool beans!
These toadstool books by Chicago Artist Melissa J Craig. I love them!
Laying in bed while the thunder rolls and lightening flashes across the skies. We had a spectacular one last night. Kept the night skies lit up for quite a time. It was sticky hot in bed though. Blah . . . that I am not a huge fan of. Its going to get up to 27 today . . . yesterday it was 31, so a bit cooler. Tomorrow it is expected to be a bit cooler still. Yay! I am so not a fan of heat and humidity!
Pasta Salads. This is one I made yesterday for that other site I write recipes for. Its a Mediterranean one and it was so yummy. Filled with lots of fresh tomatoes and cucumbers, etc. with a punchy lemon oregano vinaigrette and sprinkled with feta cheese. Even Todd enjoyed this. We had it with cold leftover roast chicken.
I am a huge fan of the Continental Breakfast . . . I would choose it over bacon and eggs any day.
Petticoats . . . love them . . .
The needlefelted mice of MillaKnitt. They're so cute and so tiny!
Stone houses . . . there's a house right at the bottom of Bridge Street back home, at the top of the hill just before you turn onto highway 10 that is a stone house. I have loved it for years and years. If I won the lottery I would try to make them an offer they couldn't refuse.
A well planned Vegetable Garden. If I won the lottery I would have one of those and a gardener to take care of it, lol.
Waterways and Canals. This is Bruges in Belgium. I love watching television shows where people go on canal boat holidays. Prunella Scales and her husband have done quite a few. Tres interesting!
Buttercups . . .
And those are my favourite things for August 13, 2020.
A thought to carry with you . . .

In The English Kitchen today . . . Triple Berry Muffins. Downsized to make only 9. I can't imagine what I would do with the 18 the full recipe made!
Have a great Thursday! I hope its filled with some of your favourite people and things. Whatever you get up to, don't forget!

And I do too!
Hi, Marie! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, sweet friend! I hope you're having a blessed day, and that you'll have a blessed birthday year! :) LOVE all the goodies here today... That robin mug is so sweet... And how beautiful is that pale yellow barn!! Don't think I've ever seen a barn painted yellow before! Yellow isn't usually "my" color--but that pale yellow on such a big structure is pretty WOW! You pasta salad looks sooo tasty & beautiful! It's been warming up here this week...a pasta salad for the weekend sounds good! I love your scaled-down recipes--those muffins are amazing! Those apricot-filled croissants look good too... mmm... Now I'm hungry! LOL! Oh, but how I miss corn season back home too! The stuff here is not real sweet corn at all--more like animal fodder! :( And they only way you can get it is in tins, or those expensive vacuum-packed things that are ready-cooked. We don't really have the climate for sweet corn here, so I've never tried in the garden. Ah, well... we learn to live without some things, don't we?! I love petticoats! I dream of wearing a layered look like that, but can't really find it here, and not sure it would even look good on me as I'm sooo short... LOL! ;) HAPPY DAY! LOVE YOU SOOO MUCH!! ((BIG BIRTHDAY HUGS!!)
ReplyDeleteLOL Tracy! I have tried corn in our garden and it never works. At best we get 4 inch ears that are spindly. We don't get enough sunshine usuall! Thanks so much for your birthday wishes! Like you I am probably too short to wear layers like that! Love and hugs! xoxo
DeleteSo many beautiful favourites. The Morse Code bracelet - pure genius. I love the sweet little felted mouse. She reminds me of Vera the mouse. The little robin mug is cute. Monique's watercolour is beautiful. Hope it's cooled down a bit for you. It was nice here for sleeping last night. Happy birthday! Love and hugs, Elaine
ReplyDeleteIt is a bit cooler today, but not as cool as I would like it Elaine! Thanks for your sweet birthday wishes! Love and hugs always, xoxo
DeleteHappy happy happy birthday!

You're so kind.

All the same loves.
and yay again for your props..all adorbs.
Have a beautiful day.. a beautiful yr.

I don't think you realise how very good an artist you are Monique. I think you work hard at it and you study and you have a natural talent as well, combine the three and you are just amazing. I think so anyways. This I shall treasure for a very long time, God willing and I am already thinking about who I will leave it to! I hope that this is the last Birthday I ever have to spend in lockdown! May the next year bring good things to all of us! Love and hugs and many, many thanks for all the joy you have brought into my life and I know I am only the tip of the iceberg!xoxo
DeleteYay! It is corn on the cob season and I do love it. I had some of the sweetest ever over the weekend. Sorry you cannot get it there. Hope you can keep cool. I can never get used to the heat and humidity, thankfully we don't have that too often.
ReplyDeleteWe can get corn here Pam, but they don't know anything about how to pick, etc. Its always peeled, hardly ever still in the husk. We all know that as soon as corn is picked it begins to deteriorate, so by the time it gets to our stores, its days and days old and tastes like cow corn. Its saying a lot when canned corn tastes a bazillion times better than anything you have fresh! xoxo
DeleteI love love love your pretty journal with all these lovely pictures ! Just seeing that picture of the patchwork quilt has got me wanting to pull out all my fabric scraps again ! Thankyou for sharing :) x
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Debs! xoxo
Deletep.s. Wishing you the Happiest Birthday ever ! xxx

ReplyDeleteI always love looking through your favorite things and finding ones that I love.
I do think you should get one of those bracelets. I'm happy that your sister finally got hers. I love the word Courage; we need that right now.
I do love almost any fruit smoothies, yum!
Those art pictures you received are lovely.
I love Apricots so i know I would love those Croissants.
Those Bridgewater mugs are adorable and I loved all the other cups too.
I do love quilts and wish I was better at making them.
We have a small garden and my husband planted Corn. The corn looks like it is doing good and we are excited to harvest it.
I am fascinated by barns too and this is a very cute one.
All the food photos looked yummy!
The needlefelt mouse is adorable.
one of my ancestors built a stone house in Glenwood, Utah. It is still there and I would have loved it too.
England just has so many beautiful homes and waterways and etc. It would be a dream of a life time to see it all.
Blessings and hugs!
