Fresh Starts

I was thinking about new years and fresh starts last evening as I got into bed.  I do a lot of my thinking in bed . . . which is probably why I am a bit of an insomniac, truth be told.   I need to learn to shut my brain off when I get into bed . . . not turn it on.

I love the idea of each new year being the opportunity for a fresh start though . . .  a new chapter in your life waiting to be written upon.  You stand on it's threshold with questions waiting to be asked and answered, embraced and loved.  Fresh things await your discovery . . .  365 days of discovery and delight . . . just waiting for you to find them.

365 days of dreams to explore . . . hopes to inspire.  Possibilities to unwrap.   I suppose it is all in how you look at things.  Sometimes change comes very hard . . . I am not a great lover of change myself . . . but sometimes change is the only way dreams can be fulfilled, or given birth to.   Sometimes you just have to be willing to jump first, take risks . . . experience a leap of faith.

The first step is in believing in yourself and in your OWN possibility.   However can you expect anyone else to believe in the worth of you . . . if YOU don't already believe in the worth of you.  However can you expect anyone else to take a chance on you, if you are not willing to take a chance on yourself.

What are your private aspirations?  Are there things you have always dreamed of doing, but always been afraid to try?  What secret longings have you always held in your heart . . . afraid to speak them out loud for fear of failure?  Have you been wasting a lifetime of opportunity . . . waiting for just the "right" time?

Trust that NOW is the time.   Ask the questions and then have confidence that the answers will come.  Embrace the gentle yearnings of your heart.   Invest in your dreams and have faith that at least some of them CAN come true . . . know that they won't . . . unless you take a pro-active step in making them happening.  Make this the year of  . . . BELIEVING IN YOU.

And . . . maybe you will fail . . . but ask yourself today . . . what if you don't?  Discover the possibility in today . . . each day, and then . . .  make it yours.

I spent yesterday making my first memory of the year.  I did bake a cake in the morning, which I will probably share tomorrow, but then I spent the rest of the morning working on my Come Follow Me lessons for this Sunday. We are studying the Book of Mormon again this year, and I am determined to get as much from it as I can, but that wasn't the memory I built.

We decided to go out to lunch at Pesto again.  Just to kick off the new year in style.  The food and atmosphere is so lovely there. I said to Todd you can tell that they actually cook their food and don't just reheat frozen stuff to order.

I could be wrong of course, and if that is what they are doing, they are doing it very well.  Every time we have gone, even on a weekday in the middle of the afternoon, they have been jam-packed and busy.  It is a bit of a nightmare getting out however as in order to come home you need to turn right, onto a road that is uber-busy in two directions. The best thing to do is to turn left and then find a place on the opposite of the road and turn around.

I had been thinking about their Battered Cod Loin bites since the last time we were there so I had those again, but I accompanied them with roasted vegetables this time.  Nice chunks of roasted carrots, peppers,  and parsnips.  Todd had the same, with chicken wings istead of cod and we shared a gelato for dessert.

Our first memory built for the year, and we were super excited to be able to start watching Season 3 of Anne with an E on Netflix, although I am rather disappointed that this is the last season they are doing of it.  And with that I will leave you with a thought for today  . . .

Nothing new to share in the kitchen today, but you might be interested in these delicious Quick Drop Danish.  I make my own baking mix and have included the recipe for that as well.

Have a wonderful Saturday! I think it is supposed to be dry here. We will see!  I am going to be puttering today and icing the cake I made yesterday so that I can show it to you tomorrow!  Don't forget!

  1. Good morning, Marie. You would make a good life coach - such good advice. I like your first memory of 2020. I said to Larry we should do something together every week that isn't grocery shopping, lol. We often go to a conservatory near us. I have lovely pictures of their Christmas display. We loved going to antique shows, especially the outdoor ones in the summer and fall. Sadly, so many of the shows just don't happen anymore. I am not as mobile as I wish I were. We used to go for long walks but I can't anymore. We do enjoy a coffee out once a week or so. I am going with two friends to see "Little Women" on Sunday. I was so disappointed Anne with an E was cancelled. It was very well done. You'll enjoy the 3rd season. Well, I guess I'd better try to sleep some more. It's almost 3:30 here. Enjoy your weekend. Hugs, Elaine

    1. Oh Elaine you are so kind. Like you I am not as mobile as I wish I were. We used to go on long walks in the country side and hikes, but sadly those days are long gone. Arthritis is no fun. I want to spend more time making memories this year. I love that you and Larry are planning the same. We really are on the same wave length eh! I have not seen Little Women. Maybe Todd and I can make that a memory for next week! I hope you have a lovely weekend also. Love and hugs, xoxo

  4. Your idea to make some memories is good, Marie!! Wish we had some REALLY yummy places to eat here...but so far have not found them. But I have been cooking more at home...and sharing with our daughter here...so SHE has been enjoying that. Stuff I had not fixed for her previously. You know how we change out our cooking every so often as we go along...
