A Few of My Favourite Things . . .

These are a few of my favourite things  . . .

Home Baked Cookies.  I can have a biscuit tin full of store bought cookies and the like and I am not tempted to go near them, but if I have any home baked cookies in the house at all, I just can't leave them alone.  They call out to me like a siren to a ship.  Seriously.  It is the same with home baked cakes.  These things are dangerous for me to have around the house, which is why when I bake I hope that the Missionary elders will come around soon.  That way I can treat them to something home baked and they can get rid of some of what tempts me so much.  It's a win/win situation really.

A well made bed.  With just the right amount of covers and pillows, and crisp fresh sheets that have been hung outside on the line.   Why does it feel so good to get into bed at the end of the day, to slip your feet between those cool crisp sheets?   I think it is one of the sweetest feelings on earth, and even sweeter when you are slipping into a well . . .  made  . . .  bed.

Hearts  . . .  I look for them, and I find them.  I have several smooth heart shaped pebbles in my jewelry box.  I know other people look for and find hearts also.  Finding them is like the Universe telling you that you are loved.  I find them very reassuring.  I get the same feeling when I find feathers . . .

I especially love it when I find feathers in my box of eggs.  For some reason it makes me think of happy chickens.   I have taken to buying RSPCA approved eggs now, which are that little bit dearer.   I absolutely loathe the idea of supporting an industry which is not kind to its animals.   I read an article recently that said that what passes as free range is really not much better than caged and so I now buy RSPCA approved because I know that if the RSPCA approves, it must be alright.  I want to eat happy eggs which come from happy chickens and somehow a feather in an egg box tells me these eggs come from happy chickens.  (Along with the RSPCA stamp of approval!)

Call centres which hire people with English as a first language.  I get so frustrated when I have to call a company and the person at the other end of the line is speaking with a thick accent.   Even a thick Scottish accent can be hard to deal with.  I have a very difficult time if they are not speaking clearly.  I am usually in a frustrating situation anyways if I have to call a call centre, and not being able to understand the person who is supposed to be helping me only adds to the problem for me and increases my frustration level.    I had to spend some time on the phone with apple care yesterday and everyone spoke beautiful English.  That made me very happy!

Tiny pink toes  . . .  this little piggie toes.   I love baby toes.  I just want to snuffle them and nibble them and play with them.  They are so dear . . . they are not so dear on big people, just on babies.  I have never gotten to snuffle the toes of one of my grandchildren.  All of them have been several years old before I was able to meet them in person.   I know that is my own fault for moving so far away.  Sigh . . .

Sunflowers.  I adore sunflowers, but have only ever had any success with growing them once.   When we were down south, we planted some at the back of the garden shed and they ended up being mammoth!  People walking by (there was a public foot path to the front of our cottage) used to stop to look at them and exclaim about how tall they were.    They were enormous!  I have tried growing ornamental ones here in Chester, and all sorts, but all to no avail.   We just have lousy ground for growing things I think.

Piano music.   I could listen to it for hours.  I especially love Paul Cardall.  I have always wished that I could play the piano.  As a child I used to daydream about having piano lessons.  I had friends who loathed taking piano lessons . . .  but I thought they were very lucky.  I would have given anything for the priveledge.

I totally adore pickled beets.  I could sit and eat a whole jar of them all by myself.   Seriously.   When I had the kids all at home I used to do up a ton of pickles each year . . .  dills, bread and butter, relish, etc.  my favourites were always the pickled beets.

Mind you, I love beets in any way shape or form . . .

And thats it for this week.  I have guests coming to lunch and I need to get off this thing and get cracking on my day!

A thought to carry with you as you go along your way  . . .

  2. Good morning Marie,

I love the day when I crawl into a bed with sheets that smell of sunshine. A little spot of heaven on earth.

Yesterday I had someone from a call centre hang up on me after telling me off. He was very rude and I was upset. The man did not speak good English. I better end here before I am accused of something nasty.

    Enjoy your day. God bless.

  5. I love many of the same things you do but was surprised about the pickle beets. I do love them, but not many people I know have ever even heard of them. Hope you have a lovely day. We have some spring showers here.
