"The world is fairly studded and strewn with pennies cast broadside from a generous hand. But who gets excited by a mere penny? It is dire poverty indeed when a man is so malnourished and fatigued that he won't stoop to pick up a penny. But if you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted with pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. What you see is what you get." ~Anne Dillard
A few of the small and wonderful things which bring untold joy into my life. It's the small things in life which truly mean the most. Simple abundance . . . it's the best.
I am a person who expresses gratitude anyways, but a number of weeks ago I began the practice of picking three things out of my day that I am especially grateful for at the end of my day and interestingly enough, I find that I can go on and on with even more than three things that I can count at the end of the day. Practicing gratitude shifts our attention from what we lack to what we have in life. Its a good thing.
We never got any of the snow that was predicted. It has been cold, but not snowy. They are saying we will get three days of snow now beginning on Thursday.

The lack of snow meant we were able to get to Cindy's safely for Sunday dinner. I did need to use the bathroom frequently while we were there, but at least it was easily within reach. Cindy cooked a lovely roast dinner and we all enjoyed it very much. Eileen enjoyed being with the family (as did I) and it was just nice to get out of the house. Family times are the best of times.
Being able to watch church online. I am grateful for modern technology which allows me to do that. My ministering brother brought the sacrament to me in the afternoon which I was also grateful for. Eileen watched her church online as well.

I have been enjoying having Eileen here. We get along very well. I think it is good that she had a place to be while she is healing from this. A place where she can feel safe and loved and accepted. We can get through this together. She appears on the surface to be doing well, but who knows what feelings she is holding inside. It is hard to say. She is certainly enjoying the cats. They are good therapy for her as well and have really warmed to her.
We have not gotten on each other's nerves yet anyways, and that's a good thing. Once the 20th rolls around and I can have this last stent out, life should go back to normal and we will be able to get about more.
Life is good. Quiet. But I'll take quiet over drama any day of the week!
A thought to carry with you . . .

In The English Kitchen today, Slow Baked Sausages with Onion Gravy. This was really delicious! Eileen and I both really enjoyed these. It's nice to cook for someone other than myself for a change.
I hope that you have a lovely day and a week filled with abundance. Whatever you get up to, don't forget!

Nice you and Eileen are enjoying each others company. You are helping one another. Just wanted to add that the Swedish Apple Pie was delicious and much quicker and easier than making pastry. You could use the topping with any filling, really. I’m thinking strawberry/rhubarb. Yum! It’s still very cold here and some snow is forecast for tomorrow. It’s still winter. I’m grateful for your friendship, Marie. Love and hugs, Elaine
ReplyDeleteSo glad you and Eileen got out to Cindy's for dinner, a much needed boost for both of you to spend time with family. It is still cold here, but by mid week we might see a bit of reprieve. Have a lovely Monday.
