Small and Wonderful Things . . .

"The world is fairly studded and strewn with pennies cast broadside from a generous hand. But who gets excited by a mere penny? It is dire poverty indeed when a man is so malnourished and fatigued that he won't stoop to pick up a penny. But if you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted with pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. What you see is what you get." ~Anne Dillard

A few of the small and wonderful things which bring untold joy into my life. It's the small things in life which truly mean the most. Simple abundance . . . it's the best.

I am so grateful for two Priesthood holders who came to my home yesterday afternoon and administered the Sacrament to me and gave me a Priesthood blessing of healing and comfort. I was also able to watch church online. Church on Sunday. Its a good thing.

I am grateful for my sister who has been so kind to drop off things that I need as I have been unable to leave the house.  Catfood, bread, lemonade, naughty chips, etc. I am really blessed to have some very good and kind family members.

I wish everyone was as blessed to have a sister like I have.

The storm has hit. It's been snowing all night. So far we have not lost our power. God willing that continues. With frigid temperatures it could get really cold really fast without any power to help keep things warm.

More, much more, snow to come.

Grateful for the classics which have kept me good company so far this winter. I never tire of reading them, or of watching the film versions of them. They have been good friends all of my life.

A season of rest.  Although I was not looking for one and it may have been somewhat forced upon me, I am grateful for this season of rest. It has been a great time for reflection and thought.  Of trusting in the Lord.

Often our faith needs to be stretched if it is going to grow in the way that it should.

We are studying the Old Testament in Come Follow Me this year.  I usually follow Jared Halverson (Unshaken) on YouTube. He is a great teacher and I am already learning things and expanding my understanding in a way I had not before. I am grateful for the scriptures and their wisdom.

I am grateful to be Canadian and have the beautiful country that I have to call my own. I love my Canada and I am proud to be Canadian.

I am very grateful for your patience with me. I have not been able to respond to any comments yet. I can only sit at my PC for so long and then I get tired.  My iPad and phone will not let me comment on blogger for some reason. I have never been able to figure it out. I am grateful that you still come, you still read, you still comment to let me know you are there. It means the world to me and God willing, perhaps today I will be able to respond to some of them.

And now I must go lay back in my chair for a bit.

A thought to carry with you  . . .

Cheesy Corn Chowder

Sharing my Cheesy Corn Chowder today. Perfect for cold and snowy days. Rich and delicious and using things we all probably have on hand right now.

I hope you have a beautiful day. Stay safe and stay warm. Don't forget!

  1. That corn chowder sure looks good, Marie. I made your One Pot Chicken and Broccoli Pasta for dinner last night. It was delicious. I added sliced, sautéd mushrooms at the very end. Would definitely make it again. We got almost two feet of snow ❄️ yesterday so will be digging out today. All the schools are closed and I’m sure a lot of people will be staying home. Sounds like you’re getting the same storm today. Praying you don’t lose power. Hope you get to talk to your doctor today. Stay safe, stay warm. Love and hugs, Elaine

  3. Take care, and enjoy this forced rest period. We got the storm yesterday, 37 cm (about 14.5 inches) Lots of closures today, and a digging out day. I'm not worried about getting replies, and I'm sure your regular readers are the same. Blessings to Cindy, a special person for sure. Hope the power stays on for you, and you are able to contact your doctor. Positive thoughts heading your way. Take care, stay warm and safe,
