Small and Wonderful Things . . .

"The world is fairly studded and strewn with pennies cast broadside from a generous hand. But who gets excited by a mere penny? It is dire poverty indeed when a man is so malnourished and fatigued that he won't stoop to pick up a penny. But if you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted with pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. What you see is what you get." ~Anne Dillard

A few of the small and wonderful things which bring untold joy into my life. It's the small things in life which truly mean the most. Simple abundance . . . it's the best.

The quiet life. Never underestimate the value of a quiet life. I love these simple days and times. A bit of work, a bit of play. My wee home. Simple pleasures and loves. Not a lot of real drama. Peace. Harmony. Nobody to really please except my God and myself. I am loving these days of mine.  I do wish I had more time to play, but that is down to me. I could have them if I really planned for them.

Sunday dinner with the family.  Pot roast and vegetables and homemade sour cherry pie for dessert. It is good to get together with the people you love and enjoy some time together. I am grateful for my family.  Dad is coming here for his supper today as Cindy and Dan are having a day off. Looks like the weather will be fine for the, albeit a bit hot. There is a heat warning in effect for this area.  We need rain.

Some of my sweet peas in the U.K.

Garden flowers. My favorite flowers of all are sweet peas. I wish that I had some. A neighbor two doors down has a beautiful purple clematis that is blooming gloriously at the moment. All up and down the street gardens are in bloom and I enjoy seeing them so very much. Some people put so much love and care into their gardens and it shows. I like looking out my window and seeing my lilies at the moment. I did not plant them, a previous tenant did, but I am getting to enjoy them all the same and am grateful for that.

Attending church on Sundays and having the blessing of partaking of the sacrament. This is a wonderful opportunity to renew covenants I have made and to refresh my spiritual battery.  Yesterday was the Branch conference and our group from Annapolis was in attendance as well. The chapel was full to overflowing, and all of our stake leaders were in attendance as well. It was really nice to have a full chapel. I was also able to get my Temple recommend renewed for another two years which I was grateful for. Although I have not yet gone back since everything happened, I know that I can and am worthy to. That may not mean much to others, but it means a lot to me.

It has been so dry here, one of our local farm's fields caught alight.  Thankfully the fire department was able to put it out and it did not spread to anywhere else.  I also read on Facebook where a forest fire on an island in the middle of Cloud Lake here in Nova Scotia. There was also a fire out New Albany way earlier today, thankfully which was put out.  We are under drought conditions here in Nova Scotia at the moment.  We have had promises of rain, but the rain has not materialized each time it's been promised. Things are tinder dry. We are badly in need of some rain and will welcome it when it comes.

There was a wee girl in church yesterday with daisies in her hair. So sweet.  It cheered my heart to see them and her.

The photos I am seeing of everyone's dahlias coming into bloom. They are all so beautiful.  I know they take a lot of patience and care to grow, and I am so appreciative of their efforts which they share so beautifully with us all in their photos. I love to see them. Beauty shared is a wonderful thing.

Puttering. The act of doing small and simple things around the house that need doing but don't require a lot of effort.  I find the act of puttering very relaxing. A bit of this and a bit of that. Very enjoyable.

Fresh berries. I bought a small punnet of them to enjoy on Saturday and they were really nice. A mix of blackberries, raspberries, strawberries and blueberries. Summer sunshine.

Simple humor  . . . it warms the heart to be able to smile and to laugh.

The creativity of others.  Are we not blessed to have so many creative people in the world that share their labors with us, From Van Gogh to a simple craft. I am in awe of all of their works and grateful for their creative hearts.

Faith, family, home, cats, prayer, health . . .  I am grateful for all of these things and do not take any of them for granted. I am blessed and I know I am blessed, and I know from whence these blessings come. I am always cognizant of the fact that even in my worst moments, there are those who have it so much worse.

Joy, peace, contentment, abundance.  I have all that I need and some to share. Life is good.

A thought to carry with you  . . .

White Chicken Chili

I don't have anything new in the kitchen today so I am resharing a recipe for White Chicken Chili for two that I made a few years ago.  This was excellent and I thought you wouldn't mind me reminding you of that.  Simple flavors with the wow factor.

I hope you have a day filled with an abundance of small and wonderful things.  Be blessed. Don't forget!
