Small and Wonderful Things . . .

"The world is fairly studded and strewn with pennies cast broadside from a generous hand. But who gets excited by a mere penny?...It is dire poverty indeed when a man is so malnourished and fatigued that he won't stoop to pick up a penny. But if you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted with pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. what you see is what you get." ~Anne Dillard

A few of the small and wonderful things which bring untold joy into my life. It's the small things in life which truly mean the most. Simple abundance . . . it's the best.

Cindy and Dan brought over a tomato plant for me to nurture and grow yesterday. I was really surprised and pleased!  Its for baby tomatoes.  I am looking forward to seeing how it progresses! Hopefully nothing eats it!

My wee house is fitted with a heat pump.  This also works as an air conditioner when the temperatures get really high.  We had a very hot day yesterday and there is a heat warning out for today.  I used the air conditioning setting for a few hours yesterday and expect that I will today also. At the moment, I have the front door open allowing the cooler air of the morning to come in, but I will shut it as soon as it starts to get really hot.

Ceiling Fans.  I have two. One in the living room area and one in the largest bedroom.  They have helped to keep things cool these past few days as well and the one in the bedroom made sleep quite comfortable.

My window sill geranium. This was my sister's housewarming gift to me. Its doing fabulously!  The best part of that is having a sister who cares for and loves me.  (Dan too.)

Having a safe and quiet neighborhood to live in. I am so blessed.  I had been worried that I might end up having to live in a building with stairs and noisy neighbors, drug addicts, or alcoholics.  I have ended up in a lovely little place, with a pretty screen door and a front veranda.

brb, I need to pinch myself because I must be dreaming.

Nope, not dreaming.  Somebody up there loves me.  This is the windows of heaven pouring out a blessing on my head.

This was an impulse buy one day when I was in Home Hardware. Its a racket bug zapper. It should be named fly-be-gone.  It works wonderfully!  I have had several flies get into the house and all of them have been zapped.  Painless for me, maybe not for them.  It is probably one of the better $7 I have ever spent!

Sunday Dinner with family.  I went to Cindy's yesterday and she had made roast beef, with mashed potatoes, green beans and gravy. It was nice to be with family. Again, the windows of heaven.

I truly am blessed.  My cup is full and runneth over.  I have come through the dark tunnel and am basking in the light. Oh sure, I still have emotional baggage to deal with, but I am working on that, and I know that my faith will help to see me through that also. 6 months ago when this journey was just beginning, I could only hope that I would be where I am now. I felt so broken and hurt. I don't think I had ever felt so battered as I did then.  Numb.  I am so grateful for all the help I have been given and for my faith.  Life is good and I am feeling very blessed.

Perhaps you have to lose everything and hit rock bottom before you can truly appreciate the blessings life has in store for us.

A thought to carry with you  . . .

In The English Kitchen today  . . .  Chicken Pot Pie for one.  Delicious and simple.

Have a wonderful day. I hope the week ahead of you is filled to overflowing with countless small and wonderful things!

  3. I saw the same bug zapper at Giant Tiger the other day and immediately thought of you. I'm trying MailChimp on my site, had a good look at everything and think I've got it sorted out for signing up for email updates. Had it up just a little while and had people subscribing right away. It's another hot day here, trying to stay cool. Enjoy Monday.
