Small and wonderful things . . .

 photo smalls_zpsl0x8yofz.jpg

"The world is fairly studded and strewn with pennies cast broadside from a generous hand. But who gets excited by a mere penny?...It is dire poverty indeed when a man is so malnourished and fatigued that he won't stoop to pick up a penny. But if you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted with pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. what you see is what you get." ~Anne Dillard

A few of the small and wonderful things which bring untold joy into my life. It's the small things in life which truly mean the most. Simple abundance . . . it's the best.

Music.   I love music and always have.  Music helps me to concentrate when I am being creative, brings peace to my mind and heart, helps me to commune with my maker, etc.  I cannot imagine a world without music in it.   I hear it in the rain that falls and likewise the silence that accompanies snowfall.  I hear it all around me.   I understand the concept of things and events being "music to the ears."  Music stirs me and my emotions.  I connect with it on a very deep level.  It helps me to be happy and sometimes makes me feel sad.   Other days, a few notes . . .  and I am sixteen again,or five or fifty.  Music has always been a big part of my life.

Mitzie and all that she brings to our table.   I love this little dog so very much.   She's sweet and she's stubborn.  She's intelligent and loving.  Loyal.  Affectionate.   At times demanding.   Always a joy, never a burden.  I downloaded a squeaky app onto the ipad yesterday and it was so cute watching her with it.   She was looking behind the sofa and all over for whatever was making the squeaky sound at first and then she realized it was coming from the iPad and  she was trying to figure out how to make it squeak again, and then realized if she touched her nose to it, it worked.  So cute!  Such a smile maker.

We had a really moving and touching church service yesterday for Remembrance Sunday.  I don't think there was a dry eye in the chapel.   What price freedom . . .

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
~John 15:13, KJV

I will always be grateful for the sacrifices given so that I am able to enjoy the freedoms I enjoy today.  We must never forget.  Many young people today take them for granted, a lot of older people too.

Warm socks on a cold morning.  The feeling of the sheets against your bare feet when you take a pair of socks off just before you get into bed, etc.

Socks.

The birds in the garden that share their lives with us.   I love to feed them.  I love watching them.   I feel for them this time of year as the weather becomes colder and wetter . . .

It's coming . . . I am loving the commercials on the television at the moment from the various  grocery stores.

The clear winner for me this year is the Aldi one.  I love it.

And that's it for this week.  We are off to a meeting in Manchester today.  I hope the weather isn't too bad!

A thought to carry with you through today  . . .

Use your gifts.
Don't let them rest or they will rust away.
Take the opportunities
that come with every day.
By perseverance, self reliance
and self discipline.
You can be what you desire.
The kingdom is within.

In the English Kitchen today . . .  1970's Chicken Divan . . .  but with a sauce from scratch.  Low fat and healthy.

Have a wonderful week.  Don't forget . . .

  1. Good morning Marie,

I hope your day is wonderful and that a little dream or too comes true. I love the sound of rain falling and welcome it. Sometimes we wait too long. Then when the rain comes it is such a treasure.

    God bless,

    Suzan

  2. Warm socks are a must for me too when the weather gets cold out. I wear wool ones. I was thinking about making Chicken Divine for lunch with some of my friends this week. I'll have to check out your recipe. Hope you have a wonderful beginning to this new week. Happy Monday.
