Christmas is a gift of love
that can't be bought or sold . . .
It's ours just for the asking,
and it's worth far more than gold.
And this priceless gift of Christmas
is within the reach of all . . .
The rich, the poor, the young, the old,
the greatest and the small.
So take God's Christmas gift of love . . .
reach out and you receive . . .
And the only payment that God asks
is just that you believe.
Christmas is a heavenly gift
that only God can give . . .
It's ours just for the asking
for as long as we shall live.
It can't be bought or bartered,
it can't be won or sold.
It doesn't cost a penny
and it's worth far more than gold.
It isn't bright and gleaming
for eager eyes to see . . .
It can't be wrapped in tinsel
or placed beneath a tree . . .
For the priceless gift of Christmas
is meant just for the heart,
And we receive it only
when we become a part
Of the kingdom and the glory
which is ours to freely take,
For God sent the holy Christ Child
At Christmas for our sake.
So take His priceless gift of love . . .
reach out and you receive . . .
and the only payment that God asks
is just that you believe.
~Helen Steiner Rice
You just have to love the poetry of Helen Steiner Rice, a poet who rose beyond tragedy and disappointment to inspire millions with her words. Over eight decades she penned thousands of poems and prayers to give comfort and hope through some of history's darkest moments. In the process, she became one of the first American woman to introduce faith into the workplace and popular culture.
Our Christmas season officially kicks off today with our Ward Christmas party and then tomorrow's broadcast of the First Presidency Christmas Message from Salt Lake City. I know those in America got to watch it last weekend, live. But ours is always shown a week or so later. To me . . . Jesus is the reason for the season. Nothing more . . . and nothing less.
It's my baby boy's 24th Birthday today. It's hard to believe that he is 24, but he is. It seems just yesterday that he came into our lives. I am so proud of him and the way that he serves his country. He is a good man. Happy Birthday son. I hope you have a lovely day and that this coming year is the best year ever for you.
I think it will be.
A thought for you all to carry through the day . . .
"Nothing in life is more exciting and rewarding than the sudden flash of insight that leaves you a changed person, not only changed, but for the better."
~Arthur Gordon
Cooking in The English Kitchen today . . . Apple and Blueberry Pudding Cake.
Wherever you go, whatever you do this weekend . . . be safe and be happy.
