My Favorite Things . . .

These are some of the things in life that I enjoy and which make me happy, inspire me, or put a smile on my face. Maybe some of them are yours too.  Lets share!

Its not the best photograph in the world because it was taken from off my television, but that is Gabriel graduating.  You can see our Anthony on the bottom right, my ex, our Anne and Luke, all busy taking photos of this grand event.  Hopefully I will get some clearer photos at some point.  Gabe is now a graduate and although I could not be there in person I was at least there virtually and my heart was there covering him with love anyways.

It was quite different than any graduation ceremony I have ever seen, but I guess that is how they do things these days!  Congratulations Gabriel!

This was yesterdays temperatures and it promises to be even hotter today.  This doesn't even include the humidex.  Right now my heat pump is my favorite thing of all because it keeps things nice a chill in here.  Yesterday as I was going to meet my father for supper I noticed my next door neighbor was sitting on his deck in his chair with his head on his chest. I did not know if he was dead or alive. Thankfully he was only sleeping.

These are dangerous temperatures people.  Stay indoors.  Stay hydrated. Stay cool. Be safe.

Hello Summer!  Today is the first official day of summer.  Bring it on!  I am up for it!

Sea shells and sea glass.  Who knew they came in so many colors.

Summer carnivals and fetes.  So much fun.  Our big one here is the Lawrencetown Exhibition. That is not until August however.  I have not been in years.

Time spent at the beach, seaside.  They are relatively quiet here in Nova Scotia. Not like in the U.K. where the seasides are filled with carnival games, and ice cream and fish and chip stands. Boardwalks.  Here you might get lucky and find a picnic table, but the views are always spectacular and the air is a lot fresher and cooler.

Fresh watermelon and berry season.  When I was a child the only time of year you could get these things was in the summer, beginning with strawberries. Now, they are available all year round, but I like them best in the summer.

Iced drinks.  In the U.K. if you asked for ice in your drink, you might get one cube and that would be melting. We love our iced drinks in North America and if you ask for ice in it, you get plenty!  So refreshing!

Daisies  . . .  I love daisies.  Such a sweet summer flower.

Frozen iced treats.  Never better or more enjoyed than in the summer months.

Pool floats.  I wish I had a pool. So refreshing in the summer. My daughter who doesn't talk to me has a pool. I am sure that the children really enjoy it in the summer months!

Summer reads  . . .  what are your favorites?

Fresh lemonade!  You can't beat an ice cold glass of lemonade for refreshment!

Breakfast on the porch . . .

Picnics  . . .

Homemade Ice Cream  . . .  I had my first one last night. Strawberry in a waffle dish. It was some good.

Outdoor games  . . .

Wildflower bouquets  . . .

S'mores  . . . .

Sand sculptures.  Now this one is very inventive  . . .

Bubbles  . . .

Bike Rides at dusk  . . .  when its cooler  . . .

And those are some of my favorite things about summer for this the first day of summer 2024!

A thought to carry with you  . . .

In The English Kitchen this morning, something else I like about summer. Salad.  Cheddar, Apple & Walnut Salad, with a deliciously creamy Curry Yogurt & Lime dressing. This is fabulously tasty!

I hope you have a wonderful day, filled with lots of your favorite things!  Be happy, be blessed, be safe and don't forget!

  2. Lovely that you got to see the ceremony on tv. Heat and humidex continues today. We were out early for groceries so can stay inside during this hot time. The grass is getting longer but the insects are loving it. Stay cool and have a good day.

  4. Yum! Going to make that Cheddar, Apple, and Walnut Salad! The heat is 110 degrees F in Canada? That's what we get down here for days on end and even higher during July and August. But Canada? What has happened to the AMOC (Atlantic Meridinal Ocean Current) -- it's supposed to be circulating and moderating the climate up there. I'm reading THE MIDNIGHT LIBRARY by Matt Haig. Interesting book about life choices. Oh what would happen if we had the privilege of choosing all over again the life paths we would take? How could we forget the people who we know now, and love, only to follow another path? Stay cool and safe in that heat! xoxo

    1. For as long as I have known it, Nova Scotia summers have often been incredibly hot, humid and sticky. I hate them. I much preferred the weather in the U.K. but I am not a lover of heat and humidity! That does sound an interesting book. I would not want to change anything I don't think. My experiences have helped to shape me and I like me! xoxo

    2. I have thought of moving to Nova Scotia, because of the sea close by. Or any "wild and windy hill" in the UK, as I envision Mr. Darcy walking toward me. Than I come back to reality, and routine, and the heat and humidity of summer. Thank goodness for the A/C and a good book to read.
