I wander as I wander . . .

November has been a month of dramatic sunsets and outstanding moons.  Yesterday at dusk the Welsh Hills, which we can see clearly from where we live, were a deep violet colour and behind them the clouds were amassed in brilliant formation . . . .  like brilliant rose and golden bubbles, lit by a fiery glow which seemed to strike up from beneath the horizon.  Along the  edge of the sky a long bar of green light hung on, lingering until the darkness closed in.

The air of November is exhilarating when there is no fog about to spoil it.   It's filled with the sharp smell of burning wood, wet earth and rotting leaves.   There is a special tang in the wind which sets the blood to moving with a quicker rhythm.   I step out briskly into the morning . . .  conscious of a new vitality and bracing for the threat of the impending Winter to come.

As the sun shortens it's stride . . .  the length of our days growing ever shorter, the world, too, seems to diminish in size.  Life becomes much more centred around hearth and home, the cosy familiarity of indoors and family looms large in one's  heart and mind  Oh yes . . .  there is still much to do in the garden, but there is a strange quietness which broods out there amongst the leafless trees and mist.  It is as if Nature is saying  . . .  Let everything lie fallow for a bit.  Rest and wait . . .

They call it The Cottage of Content,
I knocked to find out what it meant,
For all my life, I'd sought to find
The secret of a quiet mind.

"Come in", the owner said, "come in.
The things you seek are here within.
Love tends the hearth and keeps the blaze
To warm the heart on bitter days."

"Hope trims the lamps and makes them bright
To give a good and kindly light.
Faith keeps her watch in every room
To banish doubt and fear and gloom."

I turned away, and homeward went
To build my cottage of content . . .

Brrr . . .  it is -2 out there this morning.  Third morning of frost in a row.  Last year we only had to clear the car windows once.  I think it will be a tad bit different this year.  Who knows, perhaps we will get that elusive White Christmas after all . . . but I won't hold my breath waiting for it to appear.  We had a set of Elders come for their tea last night.  Their hands were so cold and their cheeks so rosy.  I fed them up with Thanksgiving leftovers and apple crumble with custard for dessert.  I simply mixed the turkey with some gravy and the peas and carrots in a casserole dish and topped it with crumbled stuffing before baking until the whole thing was bubbly.  Oh, but it was some good.  Some sweet potatoes, mash and green beans on the side and dinner was served.  Why is it the leftovers often taste better than the original meal?   I wonder  . . .

A thought to carry with you through today . . .

hurt you the most,
it is better to stay quiet because,
if your love wasn't enough . . .
Do you think your words will matter?

How to make a Mason Jar Lid Snow Globe for Christmas using a clear plastic ornament. ADORABLE! Easy for everybody to do! DIY Christmas gift in a jar idea. From Smart School House.

PomPom Christmas Ornament from Etsy.  But how hard could it be.  I love the brightness of it.

Woodland Animals printable Cootie Catcher things.   Love these.  Used to play this all the time when I was a child, but mine were not so cute.  From Etsy.  Not free, but not expensive either.

Happy Thought.  Ten printable animal masks.  Not free either, but cute and affordable.

From Ravelry.  Peeking Penguin Boot topper cuffs.  So cute!

I love LOVE this beautiful star square.  Again from Ravelry.  I like squares.  Easy and portable.  I reckon I am going to have a lot of time to just sit and do nothing while Todd is having his radiation treatments.  These would be a great take along project.

Raindrops on Roses . . .

These are a few of my favourite things  . . .

Nail Polish ot Lacquer as they call it over here and I just love LOVE this colour.  I am wearing it now and it looks so nice.  Goes wonderfully with my flower printed black church dress and makes me feel elegant.  For years and years I did nothing like this for myself.   I started painting my nails when I got into my 40's, had to stop when I was working as a chef, and now I just am enjoying having nice nails again.  I don't keep them long.  Just about what you see here.  I like it that way.  More natural.

My new mug.  I love robins and I love mugs.  I love robin's eggs.  I love paint splatters.  This is a Wrendale Designs Garden Friend Mug by Royal Worcester.  It makes me happy.  On one side the robin looks like this and on the other side it is . . .

Plucking a worm.   I LOVE it!  I meant to tell you about it last week.  But better late than never!  Todd is under strict orders to never never use it.  If it gets broken I would be most inconsolable.

Clocks.  From Big Ben to small alarm clocks.  I just love clocks.  I love the ticking.  I love it when they chime.  I love it when they play music.  There is a lot of comfort to be felt in the ticking of a clock.

We are both quite loving The Crown on Netflix.  We only just finished watching episode 9.  It is so very well done and you feel like a fly on the wall watching it all unfold.   Right now Prince Phillip is not coming over as a very nice person.

Anything shaped like a heart.  I adore hearts.   Heart shaped jewelry.  Heart shaped pillows.  Heart shaped cookies and cakes.  Hidden hearts.  Found hearts.   I just love hearts.

Little necks and ears.  I want to snuffle them.

Vintage Dolls.  I don't have any.  But that doesn't stop me from loving them.  You can love things you don't have from afar.  Just so long as you don't covet them.

The Wisdom of Winnie the Pooh.  It is so profound.  Children's stories that adults can appreciate.  What could be better than that?

Audrey Hepburn.  I liked her films and I like reading about her.  I love photographs of her.  She was very elegant.  And, I believe, very nice.

And those are my favourite things for this week.  What are some of yours?

A thought to carry with you . . .

A picture one for this week.

To all my American family and friends!

Happy Thanksgiving.   May your day be surrounded with family, friends, more food than you can eat and most important of all.  Lots of love.

Wednesday This and That

I have always been a person who has a difficult time with change, which makes me kind of an enigma really, because I have always been  quite pro-active when it comes to moving forward.  I don't necessarily like change . . .  but I deal with it and move on.

I wasn't too happy this morning when I logged onto blogger and discovered that the way of doing things has changed somewhat.  I thought to myself  . . . . oh no, here we go again.  Another learning curve.  👵  Change can sometimes be difficult for the older, grey and wrinklies.  (I am liking the new emojies though.  Is that what you call them?)

But where is my reading list?   Ackkk!!

Pictures seem to be uploading alot easier however, so that is a good thing.  And I opened my eyes this morning, another good thing.  And the best thing of all  (Pinch me am I dreaming) the realisation that my sister/friend/kindred spirit friends Suzan and Valerie will be both coming to the UK in 2017.  Suzan in January and Valerie in May.   I cannot wait!!!  To finally be able to meet in person will just be wow.  😁  Here is me grinning all over the place.

Valerie's son did his mission here in Chester.  We had no idea at the time that Elder Hanchett was her son, or that we were her son's Rayner family.  Funny how that goes.  But probably meant to be.

I am going to try to get into the Doctors today so that my grateful heart can have a check over.  I am feeling really anxious about these heart thingies.  Best to be safe rather than sorry.  With all that is going on with Todd at the moment, I cannot afford to be ill myself.  He needs me.

I spent some of yesterday afternoon, closeted in my craft room all by myself, chatting to my sister on FB while I played with my glue gun and did a few bits and bobs.   It was a great distraction.  With only three weeks to go now on our Mission and Todd feeling so tired, the work has slowed down a great deal.   He finds that if we don't get things done in the morning, they don't get done at all.  Who knew that female hormones would have such an effect on a person.   Last night I fell asleep during the Big Bang Theory only to be awakened by him snoring in the chair next to me.  I usually get woken up by him saying . . .  "Are you asleep?"  or  "Wake up!"

We both went to bed at 8:30.  The price of him not having a nap in the afternoon.  Afternoon naps are going to be a thing for the next few months I think.  Not for me, but for him.

I could never nap in the daytime.  I would never sleep at night if I did.

Things have a way of working out one way or the other.  They always do.  And if you don't get the result you wanted to get, it is probably for the best in the long run. There is a meaning and a purpose to everything.  I know that to be true.  Life has proven it to me.  Perhaps a lesson needs to be learned, or experience needs to be had, growth needed, etc.   Its all in the Lord's timing and sometimes the most answered prayers of all are the ones we think we didn't get an answer to.  (If that makes sense.)  It is still hard to understand sometimes though  . . .  why certain things happen, and why bad things happen to good people . . . but I guess it is all a part of enduring to the end.  Faith isn't faith unless you have to cling to the edges of the boat in a storm, or . . .  and this is a biggie . . .  unless sometimes you are willing to get out of the boat altogether.  That is the hardest thing of all . . .  that and losing sight of the shore.  You just have to believe that the shore is still there . . . and that you can walk on water if you just keep going and stay focused on the things which are important.

Right now the important thing is getting Todd well again and staying well myself.  I started thinking yesterday that perhaps we might  not put a tree up this year, but then in the next breath I thought that keeping things as normal as possible is the best way to go and so I will try to do just that.  In truth sometimes though, I do long for my mother's lap to curl up in.

Don't we all.

So yeh . . .  change is hard, but we adapt because it beats the alternative.  I will not, no never, not ever   . . . I will not ever give up.  And lookie here.  We have a blog post on the right blog with pictures and everything.  And tomorrow it will be a little bit easier.  And the next day easier still, because  . . .  that is how it works.  This moving forward business.  Each step/day/challenge . . .  brings us closer to the light at the end of the tunnel, and we always emerge better than we were when we entered it.  Or at least we can be if we allow ourselves.

And that's the truth.  Pffftttt!

A thought to carry with you through the day.
