Update on Dad

Just a short post to let you know about Dad.  Apparently when they did that scope the last time he was in hospital to look at his gall bladder, they noted that he had ulcers in his stomach and small intestine. They did not tell us anything about that. They even put him on a medication for it, but again we were not told. Even when he was at his last family Doctor's visit nobody said anything about it.

Well apparently his ulcers must have been bleeding for a bit and this morning it all came out. As you can imagine this was very distressing for all of us.  He even said to us that he was dying, and he thanked Cindy very much for all she has done for him.

Anyways, they are keeping him in the hospital for 48 hours to keep an eye on him, and they are increasing his ulcer medication.

Other than being a bit disappointed that he has to stay in the hospital for a few days he has taken this all in his stride. He is a very easy-going person and a very good patient. He is so pleasant and never complains much about anything. He did eat a hearty lunch today. Roast pork, gravy, some mashed potatoes and carrots.

Hopefully he will be able to come home on Monday. So that's the update.  Thanks so much for your prayers and happy thoughts!

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Sounds like he may be able to recover and that is good!! By the way, here in this country, at our age now at least, all our records with medicals we have to put our son or daughters down to be informed about all the docs find. Not sure if that happens there but at his age especially, your sister ought to be informed of EVERY single thing as after all, she is his caretaker.

  3. Thank you for the update! It sounds like fairly good news for now, I’m glad they are keeping him for a bit. Poor Cindy… poor all of you, it’s frightening when a loved one is ill…especially when the ER is involved…but he is in good hands and hopefully all will be sorted soon. Having been through similar situations with parents and others, I can sympathize. Thanks again for the update…a prayer coming for you all…and a virtual hug, hope you can feel it.

  5. So relieved that your Dad will be able to go home on Monday. What a scare for him and for all of you. I agree with Elizabeth that you and/or Cindy should be kept informed of your dad’s medical conditions. Do one of you have power of attorney over his health care? Hope you can relax tomorrow. You’ve had a very eventful week. Love and hugs, Elaine

  6. That sounds like your dad is on the road to recovery. You and Cindy should be allowed to know all about his medical records, he could sign some document allowing that.

    1. My sister has power of attorney and is his next of kin. As his caregiver she is supposed to be told everything. xoxo
