The Cranford Chronicles by Eizabeth Gaskill.  Great book but even greater mini-series.  They did two of them, starring Dame Judith Dench and quite a few others.
If you are a fan of period dramas and Brit tv, then you really need to watch these.  They are just brilliant!!!  I am a huge fan of period dramas.
Candlelight in winter. Cosy.  Hygge.  If I wasn't such a fraidy cat I would only use oil lamps in the Winter time to light our home and make it all cosy wosy.  I a too afraid of fire however, but I do like to light candles.
Hand knitted cardigan sweaters.  I once knit one for my mom in black.  I don't think she ever wore it. She never used much of what was given to her.  Saving it for good I guess. The sweather had black lacy panels down along side of the button closure and I bought special black and silver buttons for on it as well.  I now use everything that I love and that is gifted to me.
Toasted bread spread with butter and honey  . . .  or better yet, honey butter.  I love rustic breads, with whole grains and seeds and nuts in it if possible.
French Biscuits . . .  especially the shortbread textured ones.  Great with hot cups of herbal tea . . . in Winter I like spiced apple tea  . . .
Spanish Birba Biscuits.  I bought three tins of them at Christmas last from Costco. Each time my intent was to give them to Arianna as a gift, each time we couldn't resist eating them.  Naughty, naughty  . . .

Artisnal breads  . . .  now that's what I can a beautiful work of art  . . .
Man does not live by bread alone  . . .  but I seriously could not live without good bread  . . .
Train travel  . . . .  clickety clack, clikety clack . . . I once travelled from Winnipeg to Halifax on the train   . . .
British Telephone boxes . . .  iconic  . . .
Polka dots  . . . .
Blue and White Home on IG.  Seriously follow them  . . .
This  . . . .
Ear rings  . . . .
Old portraits  . . .  I wonder about the people   . . . who were they, what were their lives like. Every one tells a story or hides one . . . .
Sweet buns  . . .  dusted with sugar  . . . .
Wood floors  . . .  If I had my way and the money we would rip up the carpeting downstairs and replace it with a wood floor  . . .
And those are my favourite things for this week  . . .
A thought to carry with you  . . .
You're not going to master
the rest of your life in one day.
Just relax.  Master the day,
then just keep doing that
every day.
In the English Kitchen today  . . .  ten of my favourite comfort food dishes.
I hope your Thursday shines.  Don't forget!

DeleteHi Marie~
ReplyDeleteYou always find such interesting things! I love bees too, and old paintings, and wood floors. I love the quote about being fat...although I really would love to be thin. It must be that I love artisan bread and sweet buns ;0) Much love XOXO
Hugs and Love,
Barb
I would really love to be thin also Barb, but like JK says, there are far worse things to be! Love and hugs, xoxo
DeleteI'm with you I could have wood floors too. I do like period drama's and I like anything that is in the 1800's.
ReplyDeleteYou like a lot of things that are common to your area, I think. I love candles especially when it's cloudy. I love that you made your Mom a sweater. Yes, I do try to use the things my children give me. I have a few things saved.
Yup, I love toasted bread with butter and honey. I especially love homemade bread, although I don't make it much anymore.
I love blue shutters. I wish I had a kitchen in blue; maybe someday.
I have missed our posts a lot. I will try and be by more often; you are a favorite friend. it's been a number of years since I connected with you and you have enriched my life with your talents.
Sending loving thoughts and hugs!
You are a favourite friend of mine also LeAnn! I envy you your busy life in many ways. Happy Valentines day to you and Roger! xoxo
DeleteHi Marie, I love J.K. Rowling's quote about fat. I think sometimes people look at people being overweight as a character flaw. How sad is that? I want to wish you and Todd and little Mitzie a very happy Valentine's day. Stay warm and cozy and love one another ♥️. Hugs and love, Elaine
ReplyDeleteIt could be a symbol of lack of willpower, but it could also have a medical reason. I just think that there are so many other things about people that are far more important, you are right, it is not a character flaw! A very Happy Valentines day to you and Larry also! Love you! ♥x♥o♥x♥o♥
