The Garden Path . . .

Where does it lead . . . the garden path???

Down through the woods to the lily pond . . . where blackbirds bathe and frogs croak . . . and rustling in the leaves along the edges, pricks the corners of your mind, and makes you think of thick leafed woodlands, and fairy circles and little green men . . .

Or to a rustic seat where old trees lean down to make a bower overhead of gold and green . . .  and squirrels dance across the tree tops . . . rabbits snuggle in their holes and foxes in their dens . . . fallen acorns from the autumn long dead and gone, still crunch beneath the feet, and here and there the blackberry blooms . . . the promise of the autumn to come . . .

No, no . . . the garden path does not lead to any of those . . . but into a world set far apart from every day . . . woes and cares and troubles . . . noise and angst . . . a world free from all of these . . .  and filled with the dreams in the garden of your heart.  Just sit quietly and you shall see . . . close your eyes . . . let them in . . . the blackbirds, and frogs . . . fairy circles and little green men . . . dancing squirrels . . . and orchard blossom . . . it all waits for you and for me, in the corners of our minds and in the echoes of our hearts.

It sounded like summer last night after supper . . . the sun was shining and the back door was open and I could hear the hum of lawnmowers and smell grass being cut.  Oh, I know it's early days yet . . . the sun doesn't yet have the warmth and power of the summer behind it, but I can definitely feel it in the air.  Mitzie can too as she has taken to laying out on the patio in the back during the day, just drinking it all in.  She is so pleased now that the rains of winter have passed and the garden has dried out enough that she can explore it and enjoy a good old sniff several times a day . . .

Its growing . . .  I do like how the colours are turning out. They are pink but somehow photograph like purples.  I can't seem to get the right colours on the camera.  Somethings remain a mystery to
me  . . .

Todd's has been put on hold now, until I finish the baby one. His colours are quite masculine and I just know that next Winter when the winds blow he will really appreciate it's warmth on his knees.  This is the nicest pattern to work with and this yarn is amazing. I really like it.  So soft  . . .

It rained during the  night  . . .  the drops are still on the window, but the sun is shining this morning, and although you can't see it in this photograph the sky is really blue with only light streaks of cloud.  That little stained glass thingie up there was in our Christmas Card from Sybil this year . . . it is of Bath and every time I look at it, I think of my sweet friend and hope that one day soon we will be able to travel down to see her . . .  and Bath.  Dreams can come true.  Many of mine have, and so I have faith that this one will too . . .

Please keep our landlord Dennis in your prayers.  He's just been diagnosed with Prostrate cancer. I am not sure what stage or the treatment he will be given yet.  He's always very vague and rambling when he relates a story to you . . .  it is the way of the Irish I guess, or his way at any rate.  Prayers would be very much appreciated.

I think we are going to go out and pick up some tomato plants today.  There is nothing like a "fresh from the garden" tomato in the summer months to put a smile on your face.

And with that I will leave you with a thought for the day  . . .

In the kitchen, a little something I baked for Todd . . .  Jam Filled Buns.  A cross between a scone and a North American biscuit, with a sweet jam filling.  He loves these.

Have a lovely Saturday no matter what you get up to.  Don't forget!

  1. Hi Marie, oh the weather has been wonderful hasn't it, long may it continue (for Mitzies sake of course!).

Poor Dennis, I hope they've caught in in time. Cancer is a terrible illness as you know. Both my parents and husband died from a result of it. But everyday things are improving and new discoveries made so hopefully in the not too distant future a cure will be found. We are so lucky to live near Clatterbridge too, its an amazing oncology centre and it's free! I love the NHS!

Talking of the NHS I hope you're mammogram went ok. They are uncomfortable but definitely worth it. My best friend Julie was diagnosed with breast cancer a couple of years ago as a result of her mammogram and she is fantastic now. She would never have picked it up herself as she hadn't noticed any lumps or changes in her breast. We are blessed to have these things freely available to us.

Well I'm hoping the good weather continues as we're off to Scotland on Monday for five days. So I'll probably be on catch up again next weekend! Have a great week, lot's of love xxx

    1. I asked him what stage he was, but he didn’t seem to know, so hopefully it’s not too bad. I hope you will have a great time in Scotland! I can imagine how beautiful it is this time of year! Yes, we are so blessed to have the NHS and all it gives to us! Xoxo

  3. We too had early rain this morning but now the sun is shining but it's chilly out. Earlier on the week it was warm enough to open up the doors and it did feel wonderful. What a difference the sunshine makes! This buns look wonderful and I'll definitely check out your recipe. Will also keep your landlord in my prayers too. Hope you have a super day !

  4. Hi Marie~

Walking down that garden path sounds wonderful...you had me at...where blackbirds bathe and frogs croak! I love the way you write, I always feel like I'm there!

It is stormy and windy here today, while I type I can hear thunder rolling across the sky. A friend from the city just called and wanted to know if we had hail damage, as there was a bad hail storm in our area. We didn't get any hail, thank goodness! My Lilacs are just starting to bloom and I would be very disappointed to lose those beautiful blossoms!

I'm so glad you are getting some warm days, noting better than going out and soaking up some sunshine. Cole is kind of a baby, and only likes to stay out if we are out. Sometimes, I make him stay out and he really grumbles about it... ;0)

I'm so sorry for your landlord, I hope they caught it in time. I have lost more people than I care to think about to cancer. A dear friend of mine is going through cancer treatments right now. Her cancer is incurable, but the chemo will give her some time to be with her family, it's so sad. Dennis will be in my prayers.

Your blanket is adorable! I tried that pattern, but I don't understand how the "flipping" part works. I know that the granny square blankets can get skitty whompus really easy! I will have to look at it again and try it out.

Your recipe looks wonderful, I will have to give it a try!

Have a wonderful Sunday! Big squishy hugs to you and Todd!

    Love,
    Barb

    1. You just flip it over and start crocheting back in the direction you have just come with each row. Join to the top of the last stitch in the last row, turn your work to the left and start crocheting back. Not sure if I am explaining it right, but it makes for a really lovely finish! I will pray for your friend and her family. The Lord knows who they are. Happy Mother's Day to you! Love you, xoxo PS - glad you didn't get any hail. I love Lilacs. They smell gorgeous!

  5. Jam filled buns sounds so yummy! I must try it. I will send some prayers for your landlord. I know that you know how he feels.
Your beginning thoughts are like poetry. Right now I want to go up in the mountains and just enjoy some time by a river or stream. I hope I can get a moment to do that.
Your crocheted blankets are lovely. Barb and you are so good at this. I need someone to sit by me and show me how. I am so bad at reading patterns.
What a lovely post this was today.
Sending loving thoughts and hugs your way!
