Small and Wonderful Things . . .

"The world is fairly studded and strewn with pennies cast broadside from a generous hand. But who gets excited by a mere penny?...It is dire poverty indeed when a man is so malnourished and fatigued that he won't stoop to pick up a penny. But if you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted with pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. what you see is what you get." ~Anne Dillard

A few of the small and wonderful things from the past week which brought untold joy into my life. It's the small things in life which truly mean the most. Simple abundance . . . it's the best.

Tis the season  . . .

No two are alike  . . .

He comes in the night  . . .

Once in a blue moon . . .
(I managed to capture it.)

Warm woolen mittens . . .

On my nose and eyelashes  . . .

Silver white winters . . .
They melt
into
spring . . . . .

It IS just around the corner!

Treats, treats . . .  treats . . .

BOOK OF MORMON CORNER

Today's reading - Mosiah 1:1-14
Question - Why do we need to hear testimonies? How does sharing our testimony help us?

My ThoughtsI like this phrase in verse 5 'have his commandments (which are written in the scriptures) always before our eyes' 👀  I can't physically have my eye on the scriptures always (although I strive and want them to be at least once daily!).  Spiritually speaking, however, I can always have my eye on the truths that the scriptures teach me. Using them to guide my choices, I can keep my eyes on the Saviour and on striving to always keep His commandments. I have covenanted to do this! The scriptures are helping me to keep these promises I've made. They really are profiting me as King Benjamin testified.
I love to share my testimony with others. In sharing it  my testimony is always strengthened, just as it always is when I hear the testimonies of others. It helps to know we are not alone in our thinking/beliefs, and that there are others who share the same with us.  That is why the Fast & Testimony meeting on the first Sunday of each month is one of my favourite meetings at church.
Tomorrow's reading (Day 94)  - Mosiah 1:15-2:8
Question - What have you learnt from the reading today? How did the people prepare to hear the words of King Benjamin?

In the English Kitchen today  . . .  Chicken & Stuffing Bake.  A simple casserole that is quick, easy and delicious!
Have a beautiful week.  I hope your week ahead is filled with lots of small and wonderful things.  Don't forget along the way!

  1. I always enjoy immensely your Small and Wonderful Things. Winter is kind of a magical time of year. I really enjoy the four seasons. Sadly enought our winter has not be typical. We have only had two snow storms. Right now it feels like spring is very near.
Loved your poetic thoughts and photos; very sweet.
I do love treats, treats, treats. I need to stop loving them so much.
I love that I know that Hevenly Father is near and hears my prayers. We are not alone, ever.
Your Mitzie's face is just so adorable.
I love fast and testimony meetings. Today in our ward it was a spiritual feast.
Really enjoyed your thoughts in your Book of Mormon study. Baring our testimonies is so important in strengthening our own and hopefully others.
Sending love, hugs and happy thoughts to you!

  2. Oh,I love flowers Marie! It makes me want spring to come faster!

That puppy just reminded me when I had my golden retriever. I still miss her! She was the neighborhood dog and everyone wanted her. She was the best!

I use to have mittens, hat, and a scarf like that! Another set that was cream color background. They were too bulky and made my hands sweat. Lol.

That lemon meringue pie is making my mouth water!
I make a chicken and stuffing casserole like that, but never put an egg in it.

Oh wow! That moon is unbelievable! Good job with your photography Marie!

Those snowflakes! How did someone capture that picture before they all melted away?

Love and big hugs to you both!xo

    1. It must have been a really cold spot Jan to capture those flakes! I was really lucky to get this shot of the moon. It was very early in the morning and I had two shots that turned out, the others didn't! That's a first for me to be able to capture it so well. I need to try to remember what I did! God bless, love and hugs! xoxo

  3. We do have another layer of new snow on the ground here but haven't seen any signs of flowers coming up. Crocuses ore often the first we see here. It's just far to cold but we know they are just lying in wait. Hope you have a wonderful Monday !

    1. I think our springs are usually about a month or so earlier than yours Pam! Snow drops abound in January, February and March! You know Spring is here when the crocus break ground and we see the wild primrose in bloom! Happy Monday! xoxo

  5. Hi Marie~

Loved this post!! Your photos again...just gorgeous! I love that you were able to get a photo of the Blue Moon, it's so beautiful!! And that cute little puppy, oh my, don't you just love those sweet little puppy noses, and big dog noses?!

Are those the Raggedy Ann dolls that you are making? I hope so, because I can't wait to see the finished product! Oh, lemon meringue pie, one of my favorite, I love lemon anything. I am definitely going to try the, Chicken & Stuffing Bake, it looks so delicious.

I can hardly wait for flowers to start popping out of the ground, but before that, we need more snow, or moisture of any kind. Here in Idaho, we are praying for rain.

I love to hear other's testimony at testimony meeting, but I must say that I'm not very good about bearing my own...I really am shy about those things. I have a friend who said that in her Patriarchal Blessing, she was counseled to bear her testimony often, because through her words, she would change hearts and help others with their testimonies. What a great blessing! She always bore her testimony, and it was beautiful. I'll bet you are the same way - and I love hearing your testimony each day, it does make a difference for me in my life. XOXOXO

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

    1. Thanks Barb! Hope you are feeling better! I was so excited when I checked my photos after and found that a few of the moon had turned out brilliant. Now if I can only remember how I did it! I used to make a lot of Raggedies and sell them. These are a work in progress! I will join in on your prayers for rain! Love and hugs, xoxo
