The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, September 29th, 2020

Outside my window ...
Its still dark, dark, dark,  and very cool. A big shiny moon was shining in through my bedroom window all night last night. Every time I woke up, I noticed it had moved across the window until when I finally got up this morning it had disappeared.

I am thinking ...
This is my last daybook for September. How did that happen? I can't believe it, but here we are.

I am thankful for ...
My good friend Tina. I went out for lunch with her yesterday. We just got a McDonalds at a drive through and ate it in the car in the Asda parking lot. I am so grateful to have a close friend like Tina here in the UK. It means a lot to me to have someone I can completely open up to about all things and know that she is supportive and cares. I hope that she knows that and knows I would do anything for her as well.

In the kitchen ...

We have an Alsatian Bacon, Cheese & Onion Tart. This is the national dish of Alsace and its yummy. Puff pastry base topped with creme fraiche, two cheeses, caramelised onions and plenty of bacon.  I garnished it with chives.

On my "To Cook" list ...

Saving you Dineros.  Pumpkin Snickerdoodles, stuffed with Cheesecake. Oh my!

Good to know ...

I am creating ...

The House that Lars Built.  Clothespin People Ornaments.

Tell Love and Chocolate. DIY Felt Garland. Love this!

Studio DIY. Animal Cookie Ornaments.  Cute!

Sissix. DIY Fairy Shaker Card.

Craftberry Bush. Paper bag gingerbread houses.

I am reading ...

Hamnet, by Maggie O'Farrell

On a summer's day in 1596, a young girl in Stratford-upon-Avon takes to her bed with a fever. Her twin brother, Hamnet, searches everywhere for help. Why is nobody at home? Their mother, Agnes, is over a mile away, in the garden where she grows medicinal herbs. Their father is working in London.

Neither parent knows that one of the children will not survive the week. Hamnet is a novel inspired by the son of a famous playwright. It is a story of the bond between twins, and of a marriage pushed to the brink by grief.

It is also the story of a kestrel and its mistress; flea that boards a ship in Alexandria; and a glovemaker's son who flouts convention in pursuit of the woman he loves. Above all, it is a tender and unforgettable reimagining of a boy whose life has been all but forgotten, but whose name was given to one of the most celebrated plays ever written.

I have only just started this, but it has great reviews.

Corners of my kingdom ...

Sunset at Bamoral Castle

Balmoral Castle is owned by Queen Elizabeth II and is where she spends her summer holiday. It is widely thought to be the monarch's favourite residence. The first home at Balmoral was reportedly built in 1390, but the property didn't enter into the British royal family until 1852, when Prince Albert purchased the estate as a gift for his wife, Queen Victoria, who loved the Scottish countryside.

However, when the residence was deemed too small, the royal couple built an additional castle—the one that still exists today—to fit their growing family. There are approximately 150 buildings on the estate, including Birkhall, formerly home to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, and used now by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall for their summer holidays.

  3. I do wonder where September went. It's been cool here for the last couple of days, but is suppose to be close to 80's for a few. I'm sure then fall will truly be here.
It is wonderful to have a good friend that you can share whatever you want with. I do have one just like that and we recently met for a take out lunch and talked forever. It felt so good to be with a good friend.
The Pizza does look delicious. I do want to make the Pumpkin with Cream Cheese cake. It looks so yummy.
I do trust God's plan and we need in to today's world.
I'm not quite ready for Christmas but I loved looking at all of the different items. I did love those cute animal cookie ornaments.
Another good book, I see. It does look interesting.
I like the home that isn't white. It is so charming.
Love the cute pillows and I have a few that I really like.
China place settings are always one of my favorites.
I did love the Newhart show; it was a fun one.
Balmoral Castle is beautiful. I still don't understand why they have so many huge mansions; however, that won't change in our life time. I do like to follow the Royals though and I like them. I am big on history.
It was a fun post. Sending lots of hugs your way!

  4. I love history and following the Royals. I don't mind them having big homes, etc. They are the safest in those environments. I believe as they are one of the last Royal families in the world, they deserve to be protected as much as possible and I also think they are a national treasure. They give their whole lives from the cradle to the grave in service to this country at a huge personal cost and I don't really mind how many country homes they have. Because of the nature of who they are, they can't go to McDonalds like we can or to the shops. Everything they do is heavily scrutinized. I would not trade places with them for an instant! Love and hugs to you always. xoxo
