The Simple Woman's Daybook ...

FOR TODAY, November 5th, 2019

Outside my window...
Its dark and cold and damp.  Nothing is singing at the moment, but all week I have been watching flocks of geese fly overhead.  Its a haunting sound to me in many ways.  A sound that takes me back to my childhood . . .  a sound that always heralded the impending arrival of winter to me.  Not to sound like a character in Game of Thrones or anything, but . . . Winter is coming  . . .

I am thinking ...
This back business is going to be very up and down I think.  Had another appointment yesterday, and by the time we were halfway back to the bus stop afterwards, I was in significant pain. Mostly in both hips. We had to stop and sit for a while.  I almost did not make it back to the bus stop.  I was in so much pain I could barely walk, but I had to do it. There was no way around it.  As up as I felt about everything the other day, I am now feeling the opposite, but I am hoping this is just a blip, and that I will continue to see improvement.  I think it is going to be a long journey however.

I am thankful for ...
So thankful I made it to the bus and then from the bus stop to our home. There was no dinner last night. Todd had a cup a soup and I had a bowl of cereal.

In the kitchen ...
Nothing new but I thought I would share the most popular recipe on my blog.

Fried Cabbage with Bacon and Onions. This recipe has had in the hundreds of thousands of views and saves.  No surprise there. Its delicious!

On my "To Cook" list ...

An Italian in my Kitchen.  Italian Butter Cookies.  Maybe for Christmas.

Good to Know ...

I am creating ...
Crocheting little Christmas Trees at the moment.

Thelma Egberts on Ravelry. Fish Hats.  Cute!

Lets Knit.  Knitted Fish.

Tottiehoekom on Ravelry. Inspiration only.  I thought this was very pretty.

Fabric bracelets with a message. More inspiration only. I could not find a source.

Brazilian embroidery. Again no source, but I think it quite beautiful.

 I am reading ...

The Beekeeper's Promise, by Fiona Valpy
Heartbroken and hoping for a new start, Abi Howes takes a summer job in rural France at the Château Bellevue. The old château echoes with voices from the past, and soon Abi finds herself drawn to one remarkable woman’s story, a story that could change the course of her summer—and her life.

In 1938, Eliane Martin tends beehives in the garden of the beautiful Château Bellevue. In its shadow she meets Mathieu Dubosq and falls in love for the first time, daring to hope that a happy future awaits. But France’s eastern border is darkening under the clouds of war, and history has other plans for Eliane…

When she is separated from Mathieu in the chaos of German occupation, Eliane makes the dangerous decision to join the Resistance and fight for France’s liberty. But with no end to the war in sight, her loyalty to Mathieu is severely tested.

I am enjoying this book. It takes place in an area of France which Todd and I spent a few weeks a number of years ago, which adds to the pleasure.

I am looking forward to ...
There is a pot luck lunch at the chapel tomorrow for the women. I am thinking about going, but not sure yet.

Dreaming of ...

Open fires  . . .  and warm tootsies  . . .

A pile of warm sweaters  . . .

Rings and things  . . .

Love this  . . .

And this  . . .

Makes me smile ...

This old, old photograph.  Eileen was about 9  months old and Anthony was 3.  This was taken in Calgary, Alberta.  I can't wait to see these two in April, God willing  . . .  Anthony is 44 now and Eileen is 41 . . .  lots of water under the bridge now  . . .

Something to watch ...

We watched this last night and it was fabulous.  We both loved it.  I highly recommend.

  1. Hi, Marie! Good to catch up with you here, my friend! How very sorry I am that you're in so much pain... It sounds like this is turning into a chronic condition, or maybe had the potential to be. I'm sure there will be a lot of up and down days in the meantime. I pray the pain will ease up, and that you will be feeling better soon! ((HUGS)) Hope you'll be able to get to your church pot luck tomorrow! Those fish hats are cute--very fun. That bag with the embellishments is fabulous... almost reminds me of a crazy quilt. Those fabric bracelets are great--love the inspiring messages on them! I used to make some fabric bracelets for my shop once upon a time--they were so much fun to make. That Christmas pic of your Anthony and Eileen is sooo cute--do hope they get to come over next spring--wow, what a day that will be! :) Thinking of you... LOVE YOU LOTS!! ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

    1. It sure has Monique! I used to always take my children to get those family pictures. They were the best, but not cheap at the time if I recall right! They were treasures! You need to watch Yesterday. Todd wasn't sure about it at first, but when he got into it he loved it also! Great music! xoxo

  3. Sounds as if the treatment hit a nerve and that is not what you needed. Hopefully a little rest and relaxation will help with that. Nevers are funny things and do take time to heal. Hope today you're much better. Don't give up on the treatments and make sure to tell the doctor what happened.

    1. I won't give up Pam, but I am starting to be a bit afraid now that I am going to end up like this forever. Not something I want to happen at all! xoxo
