The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, July 3, 2018

Outside my window...
Its quite overcast at the moment, but they aren't calling for rain. Just a mix of cloud and sunshine. It feels a tiny bit oppressive at the moment.
I am thinking ...
When I went to bed last night they had gotten 8 boys out of the caves. Not sure if they have rescued any more yet or not, but God willing all will be rescued and back home soon!
In the kitchen ...

Haymaker's Beer. No alcohol involved. Just a deliciously refreshing drink that would have traditionally been served to farm workers in the fields to help quench their thirst on hot summer days! Very nostalgic!
On my "To Cook" list ...
Now this sounds good and also very nostalgic.  You have to love these old traditional recipes that have been pleasing families for years!
Good to know ...

Who knew?
I am creating ...
Love this tea cosy by Joanna Johnson on Ravelry.  Not free but not expensive either. I think its really cute and there is also a toadstool version!
Knitted Gingerbread Boys.  Free pattern by Sara Elizabeth Kellner.

Love these knitted headbands/wraps/earwarmers.  From Cpeezers. Free download.

Catnip Bunnies. Coffee & Cream

All Free Knitting.  Tiny tree ornaments.  Cute!
Oh my goodness  ...

Thorntons Toffee Cake Bites. I can't have them in the house.  Just the picture makes me want them.  They are sooooooooooooooo good!
I am reading ...

Be Still my Soul, the cadence of grace book 1, by Joanne Bischof

Night’s chill tickled her skin. Lonnie pressed her hands together and glanced up. He was even more handsome up close. Having grown up the shy, awkward daughter of Joel Sawyer, she’d hardly spoken to any boy, let alone the one who had mothers whispering warnings in their daughter’s ears and fathers loading shotguns.

Pretty Lonnie Sawyer is shy and innocent, used to fading into the background within her family, and among the creeks and hollows of the Appalachian hills. Though her family is poor and her father abusive, she clings to a quiet faith. But when handsome ladies’ man and bluegrass musician Gideon O’Riley steals a kiss, that one action seals her fate. Her father forces her into a hasty marriage with Gideon—a man she barely knows and does not love. Equally frustrated and confused by his new responsibilities, Gideon yearns for a fresh start, forcing Lonnie on an arduous journey away from her home in Rocky Knob. Her distant groom can’t seem to surrender his rage at the injustice of the forced matrimony or give Lonnie any claim in his life. What will it take for Gideon to give up his past, embrace Lonnie’s God, and discover a hope that can heal their two fractured hearts? Gideon only ever cared about himself. Now that Lonnie is his wife, will he ever be worthy of her heart?

A sweet and easy read.
I am looking forward to ...
The Semi-final match between England and Croatia on Wednesday evening!
Dreaming about ...

Its coming home  . . .

A charming spot to lay your head  . . .

A charming spot to have your breakfast  . . .

A charming spot to write a letter  . . .
A charming spot to sit and read  . . .

A charming spot to watch the world go by  . . .

Something to really watch ...
Berkley Square . . . This 10-part about 3 nannies in the wealthy households of London's Berkeley Square at turn of century. It came out in 1998 but it is still a really cool must watch a bit like Downton Abbey.

A goal for the week ...
Get rid of some more books. Write my talk.

Makes me smile ...

Its the only family picture I have of them all together and I had to scoop it off IG, and cut people out of it.  I would so love to have a real family picture of them that I didn't have to scoop, school photos, anything  . . . but I try not to think about that.  Grateful for whatever little glimpses I get . . .

Corners of my kingdom ...

Canterbury, Kent  . . .

And that's my daybook for this week!

    1. Our gardens are suffering also Monique! The ground is hard and parched and our grass is brown. So unusual in a country that is always green, green, green! I just knew you would love Phil!! I loved the Venice one, and the Ireland one and yesterday the Agentinian one. I just love this show. It is fun and un-pretentious and just makes me happy! I am so happy that you are enjoying it also!! xoxo
