The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, May 22, 2018

Outside my window ...
It is a kind of hazy overcast day, but the sun is coming. Chilly but nice and dry. Love it!

I am thinking ...
Still thinking about that beautiful wedding. It didn't take long for the haters to start squawking this or that.  They love to build people up just so they can knock them down. Its digusting.

In the kitchen ...

Crunchy Yoghurt Pots.  A bit of healthy after all the decadence of last week!

On my "To Cook" list ...

From Damn Delicious, Baked Honey Garlic Chicken.  This looks amazing.

Good to know ...

Zero Waste Kitchen from Mama Eats Plants.  Love that there is no plastic, anywhere.

I am creating ...

Cute bunny Dolls from Red Ted Art.  Free.

Off-Beat Home.  Crochet Window Treatment.  Love this.

My Thrift Store Addiction. Drying garden herbs by using an old pants hanger.

Desk Top Wrist Pets Pattern.  Easy, not free, but not expensive either. From Straight Stitch Society

Melanie Ham. How to do the magic knot. No ends, etc.  Love this. This is a game changer!

I am reading ...

A Baby's Bones, by Rebecca Alexander
Archaeologist Sage Westfield has been called in to excavate a sixteenth-century well, and expects to find little more than soil and the odd piece of pottery. But the disturbing discovery of the bones of a woman and newborn baby make it clear that she has stumbled onto an historical crime scene, one that is interwoven with an unsettling local legend of witchcraft and unrequited love. Yet there is more to the case than a four-hundred-year-old mystery. The owners of a nearby cottage are convinced that it is haunted, and the local vicar is being plagued with abusive phone calls. Then a tragic death makes it all too clear that a modern murderer is at work…
I love a good mystery.  I love forensics.  I love this book.

Looking Forward to ...
Having the last set of Missionaries over for supper tonight. They are both Canadian! Should be fun!

Dreaming About ...

Cutlery with pearly pink handles.

Pretty flowered cushions  . . . Paris Laundry Designs . . .

Butter dishes with cows on them  . . .

China plates with bows and birds  . . .

Silver forks with berries  . . .

Something to Watch ...

Frozen River. After her husband deserts her, working-class mother Ray Eddy (Melissa Leo) is in great need of money to find a home. Lured by the possibility of easy cash, Ray joins Lila (Misty Upham) a widowed Mohawk who earns a living by smuggling immigrants from Canada to the U.S. across the St. Lawrence.

A Place to Visit ...

Niagara Falls.  I am partial to the Canadian side (naturally), but I have never seen it from the American side.  It is amazing, something which you can never experience from merely seeing a photograph of it. One has to visit it in person to really understand its majesty.  The roar of the water, the mist in the air which is filled with rainbows on a sunny day.  The size.  I have never forgotten any of it.

A Quote for the day  ...

  1. Hi Marie, wrist rests, who knew? What a great idea! My daughter suffers from wrist pain and she is on a computer all day, this may do her some good.

Niagara Falls!!!!! I'm so EXCITED to be going in September. I've booked our day trip from Toronto and that includes going on the boat and lunch overlooking the falls. Did I mention I'm excited!!!!!

I'm just loving the weather at the moment. We're heading into North Wales this morning for a nice long walk in the sunshine.

Enjoy dinner with the missionaries, I know you will! Lot's of love xxx

  2. Hi Marie! The Royal Wedding was soooo LOVELY, wasn't it?! It's nice to have something in the news that is celebratory, with so much other news that is heart-rending and upsetting, we need happy stories in between it all! Your yoghurt pots are just the thing! TJ had time off last week, and we just had a bank holiday weekend too, and there was a bit of over indulgence... so we need healthier, slimming things to eat now... LOL! Look at the contnets of that fridge--not a bit of plastic in sight--LOVE that! How fun is that corchet window valance--can we call that a valance? ;) I need to try that Magic Knot method of adding yarn. I'm knitting some socks right now and need to add a new ball, and don't want any weird, uncomfortable joins. Oooo...how lovely the pink-handled cutlery!! So many lovelies at the end here today. Wishing you all a lovely and happy week there! :))) LOVE YOU LOADS!! ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

  3. I am sad it's over! Marie I bet HELLO magazine will outsell all it's editions.I loved everything about it as you know..I thought about my daughters weddings for days after..this is the only other wedding that did this to me:)
Watching a series on Netflix you may not have seen 7 seconds. Not light and bright and happy.I'm into it though..same writer as The Killing.
I seem to be the opposite of me ..and like these shows.

    LOve the pant/herb dryer:)

    Have a great day!

    1. Yes, we have been watching 7 seconds also! Aside from the language it’s pretty good! I am sure that issue of Hello will easily outsell the others! I think what I loved most about it was the relaxed feel of it all! And of course I know Diana would have approved! Xoxo

  6. I have visited the Falls a number of times since I had an aunt who married a Canadian. :) I believe they actually lived in Niagara ONT. In the 80's my husband took the children and I during the winter when it was FROZEN! What an experience. ~Elaine
