My Favourite things . . .

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOOPpfEd5Zsq2tbOc2-UBk6Njak8VrG7e7evggWXGZ2mh-j53ekFS5_iJ7oLR7meELGbGOHT1tpJoMRH-WDForIBx-F86puBU5K_uuGKf1hWiGc5Jko8kG6S71gFooUD3ZEZNrNzAWfJI/s320/alfp_favorite_things.png

These are some of the things in life that I enjoy and which make me happy, inspire me, or put a smile on my face. Maybe some of them are yours too.  Lets share!

Vintage Greeting Card Illustration from over the past century, but especially the 40's, 50's and 60's.  The earlier ones seem to tell a story.  For instance in this one the children have been out playing and built a snowman. Its the holidays and their little Scottie dog is looking out at them in longing. He wants to play too. And the house is all decorated for Christmas, so it won't be long now before all of the festivities will be taking place.

Tea Pots.  And they don't need to be fancy. I love them all, but I love simple ones most of all. I would love to own a Brown Betty.  It is on my wish list.  I know  . . .  and for the most part I don't drink tea. It doesn't make sense, but there you go . . .

Attic Bedrooms. They have so much charm. I just adore them.

Built in book cases. I love them.  They can be quite charming.  Well, built in anything really.

The Winding Road by George Callaghan

Primitive Folk Art. I like it better than the great classics. I think there is a lot of character in Primitive Folk Art, and a whole lot of soul.   It speaks to my heart.

Magical worlds I want to enter.  They make me dream. They speak to me of simpler, kinder, nicer times.

Antique Irons  . . .

Baby chicks.  Little puff balls.  Cheep Cheep Cheep

I love this song!  Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep by Middle of the Road.  It is a happy song to me, and reminds me of my teenage years. It makes me want to prance and sing along!

Barns  . . . especially red ones  . . .

Freckled faces  . . .  especially with red hair  . . .

Misty mornings . . .  mom always says that a misty morning fortells a beautiful sunny day . . .

Rolling yarn into balls . . .  I could sit and do it for hours  . . .

Hints of colour  . . . painted walls that have just a small hint of colour in them . . . pastels . . .

The warmth that comes from that small patch of sunlight in a room  . . .

Eskimo kisses  . . .

Singing along . . .  do you remember that show that used to be on the television, "Sing Along With Mitch?"  Loved it.

Tomatoes . . . in any way, shape or form.  I adore Tomato sandwiches, with lots of mayo and salt and pepper.  I love tinned tomatoes, chilled and eaten with a slice of white bread and butter . . .  tomatoes, in any way, shape, or form.   Raw tomatoes . . .  only in season and perfectly ripened.

Bunnies  . . .  how could you eat one?  But I guess you could say that about any animal  . . .

 Copper pans  . . . marble countertops . . .

Watching ballet  . . .

And those are my favourite things for this week.  What are some of yours?

A thought to carry with you  . . .

BOOK OF MORMON CORNER

Today's Reading - Mosiah 17:1-20
Question - What have you learnt from the reading today? What character strengths and weaknesses do you see here?

Thoughts - How brave was Alma?! King Noah was determined to kill Abinadi and yet young Alma spoke up and plead with him. Also I notice Alma's diligence in writing ALL the words of Abinadi when he was hiding in a cave. I always wonder why Alma heard Abinadi, why did he not harden his heart to the truth like everyone else. And it always touches my heart that Abinadi died not knowing that his message was heard. This is a comforting scripture to keep in mind when teaching or sharing the gospel. You never know when what you say will touch another person, and you may never know the change it could bring about.

Tomorrow's Reading (Day 117) - Mosiah 18:1-16
Question - What have you learnt from the reading today? What does it mean to you to 'bear, mourn, comfort and stand as a witness'?

In The English Kitchen today  . . .  a traditional recipe for Potato Cakes.  There are only three ingredients. Potato, butter and flour.  They go together to make delicious little cake/breads that are entirely comfortable being eaten warm with butter and jam. I love these old traditional recipes.

Have a beautiful Thursday.  Don't forget!

  5. Hi Marie~

I'm always so surprised with your Friday Finds...I love them all, I'm even more convinced that we are Kindred Spirits!

I have always loved Primitive art, I used to dream of a house nestled into the little rolling hills. Built-in's are my favorite, one day I hope to have some bookcases by my fireplace...maybe. Old irons, Eskimo kisses, homegrown tomatoes, freckled faces and red hair...oh my goodness, I love them all. Once upon a very long time ago, I was a dancer, toe shoes and all. One summer I stayed with my aunt in Utah. They had rabbits that we took care of and played with. My uncle told me that we were going to have rabbit stew one day...I cried. I didn't eat the stew.

That little boy with the accordion stole my heart! But I have to say, red barns make my heart skip a beat, I just love them, and they are getting few and far between here in Idaho.

Alma really was a spiritual giant! I've always wanted to have the faith and courage of Alma!

Have a wonderful day, Marie!! Love you tons!

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

    1. Love you tons too Barb! Red hair and freckles are a funny thing. The people who have them don't want them, but I have spent a whole life wishing I did. My little red-headed grandson is such a cutie pie. I could kiss each freckle and never stop! Love you tons also! xoxo

The attic rooms brought back memories from my youth. I had relatives that had rooms in the attic that were so fun to play in.
I do love built in bookcases and have had them in a few of the homes we have lived in.
Folk Art is unique and I do like it quite a bit. Old irons are fun and I have one that I treasure and display.
Baby chicks are so cute and fluffy. I really love the photo of your red barn. I love barns and use to follow a barn blog; I miss it.
I have a granddaughter that is living with me right now that his red headed and has freckles. She is an andorable ll year old.
Misty mornings do bring a special unique feeling when I am out in it.
Rolling yarn balls is a fun things to do.
The photo of the cat is so cute and of course the sunshine is awesome too.
Yes, Eskimo kissing is the best.
I used to love singing a long with my parents. They loved to sing when driving in the car. They sang some really old songs that were awesome.
Yes, how can one ever eat a bunny. They are so cute and cuddly.
    I do love tomatoes too.
I do love the look of copper pans; so shinny and clean looking.
I took Ballet lessons as a child and did dance in toe shoes. I therefore, have a great love for watching ballet. Right now I have a granddaughter that is really good at ballet. She has been living in Australia so I haven't been able to see her dance. They are now here in the states so I hope to see her dance again.
Alma and Abinidi were very brave and such a good example of staying strong.
Sending loving thoughts and big hugs your way!
