The Simple Woman's Day Book . . .

FOR TODAY, February 20, 2018

Outside my window ...
Its dark, cold and dry.  Its early but I can already hear the morning chorus. Its beautiful.

I am thinking ...
About the curse of debt. We got out of debt several years ago and said never again. However last autumn we had to go into debt again to keep the car on the road and a few other bits. Now I am working very hard to get rid of it, again. Why do we repeat doing things we say we are never going to do again?  Makes me annoyed with myself. I have dreamt about it the last two nights, so it is really bothering me.

In the Kitchen ...

Tuna, Cheese & Corn Dinner Pie. This is an oldie taken from a flour advert in the Reader's Digest many moons ago.  It has withstood the test of time!

On my "To Cook" list ...

Honey Siracha Chicken, from Rasa Malaysia. This looks very tasty!

Good to know ...

I am creating ...

Jam Jar Sewing Kits. Working on a tutorial for the new book, but am not quite there yet. I am not sure if I like the pin cushion on top or if I should choose a patterned fabric for it.  What say you?

Hot Air Balloon Tea Cosy from Susan Cowper on Ravelry.

Can you stand one more?  Oh, you will just have to because this embodies all things that I love . . .  tea cosies, hedgehogs, and red and white toadstools. From Lindsay Mudd on Ravelry. Now if only I was a better knitter!

No instructions that I could find, but a whole lotta eye candy.  Fiberluscious.

Botanical Tea Pop Up Birthday Card by Kathy W. Clement.  There is also a link to a video tutorial. I think this is gorgeous!

A free pattern from Kathie Schmitz. I love this.  Bird in Hand Pin Cushion.

I am reading ...

Borrowed Light, by Carla Kelly
Julia Darling never expected to cook for some cowboys in Wyoming, but when she breaks off her engagement in Salt Lake City, it's the perfect opportunity for her to escape. Determined to stick the job out, Julia faces her biggest challenge yet - letting go of borrowed light to find her own testimony. Set in the early 1900s, this is one romantic adventure you'll never forget!
I have read this book before and am revisiting it.  I really enjoyed it the first time, and I am really enjoying it again.
Looking Forward to ...
Getting my dishwasher back tomorrow!  Yay!  Let's hope that this time it is finally working properly! (and that it isn't all banged up!)

Dreaming About ...
 . .
What a pretty ring . . .  Moonstone Cluster Ring, from Minimal VS on Etsy. Way expensive.

 I love the eclecticness of this  . . . all those fabrics, the comfort . . .

Yes, please  . . .  love this.

Sigh  . . .  Je t'adore beaucoup  . . .

A captured Wish . . .  etsy . . .

Something to watch ...

Retribution on Netflix. Originally entitled, "One of Us." BBC Crime, Mystery, Drama. Nobody does this like the BBC.

A Quote for the day ...

Makes  me smile ...

Always  . . .  she makes me smile always.  She is such a blessing in our lives.  Can you see how her chin is turning pink? Its old age. She is turning pink with old age.  I wish my hair would turn pink naturally. Ignore her dogfood nose.  She is the only dog I know who doesn't lick her nose clean. I have to chase her with the wash cloth like a child. She hates me washing it.

Corner's of my kingdom ...

Highbrown on Rannoch Moor, Scotland.  This is a stunning landscape.  Wildly beautiful . . .

And that's my daybook for this week!

BOOK OF MORMON CORNER
Today's Reading - Mosiah 7:18-33
Question - What have you learnt from the reading today? How are King Laman's cunning ways similar to satan's tactics?

Thoughts
My favourite phrases from today's reading are these:
"lift up your head and be comforted"
"yet I trust there remaineth an effectual struggle to be made."
These two are wonderful reminders to me that when we sin or have been effected by the sins of others, there is a path to recovery that we can walk with the Saviour. There will be struggles all along the way but the end destination is completely worth all the effort, and in reality its what we've come here to do! That's not to say it's always going to be a hard grind because as Limhi reminds them.  In the past when God has delivered His people miracles have happened & blessings have flowed. The whole of v33 is a beautiful promise.

Satan pretends to be on our side, he pretends to want the best for us. He tries to make us feel like we are missing out on worldly things which we are tempted by. This is similar with Zeniff being tempted to take the land because King Laman was acting like his friend and allowed him into the land. But, as with all temptations that we fall for, it never leads to any good. Satan is a liar and can't give us blessings or anything good if we follow him. So Zeniff's people fell into king Laman's trap and ended up in bondage.

Tommorrow's Reading (Day 105) - Mosiah 8:1-21
Question - What have you learnt from the reading today? What can we learn from how Ammon teaches the people of Limhi?

Have a wonderful day.  I hope it is chock full of blessings!  Don't forget along the way!

  1. Hi Marie, lovely daybook!

I know debt is a real pain but sometimes it is a necessity. Would you have managed without the car? If the answer is no then stop worrying about it, it's not worth it.

I loved your picture of Rannoch Moor. It reminded me of a wonderful holiday I had with John and our daughter Jen when she was about 10. We stayed on the banks of Loch Rannoch, it's a wonderful part of the world. When George and I were in Pitlochry last year I made him take me back to have a look. I took a video of where we had stayed and the water was quite choppy and the wind was howling but it was beautiful. Happy days and wonderful memories . Thank you for reminding me.

    Lot's of love xxx

    1. Thanks Kate. It was a real necessity if we were going to keep the car on the road, but I can see a day coming in the not to far off future where that won't be an option. I loved Scotland. I would like to go back sometime on our own to explore by ourselves instead of on a coach! Love and hugs. xoxo

  2. Hope all goes well with your getting out of debt process, Marie. Money worries aren't fun, are they? :/ Hope all goes well with your dishwasher coming home, and that it works--and keeps working! Lots of fun crafts today. Love all the tea cosy ideas you've been sharing lately! Oh, I bought that book Borrowed Light for my Kindle, and started reading it at the weekend--LOVE it! What a great story, and I like the main character Julia a lot. Such a pretty moonstone ring with other pretty sparklers with it...I like that layered top/tunic too. Wish I could find clothes like that here. Guess I'll have to make my own. ;) LOVE that pic of Mitzie--too cute!! Happy week, my friend... LOVE YOU LOTS!! ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

  4. Debt is a burden and it is wonderful to be out of it. Before I could retire, I knew I'd have to get completely out debt in order to live. I managed due to the fact that I had retirement savings. Now I'm on a fixed retirement income and deal only with cash. If I don't have the money for it. I don't get it. I have no credit cards at all. It's not easy but I have what I need. Will pray you can find your way out and can be debt free.

    1. Pam, like you, we live on a fixed retirement income. My big worry is that if something happens to me or to Todd, the one who is left will be in a real world of hurt. I live in fear of this happening. Thanks for your prayers. We are managing it little by little, but not as quickly as I would like! xoxo

  5. There are alot of worries that can make sleepless nights Marie! It's no fun. What I've been doing is watching a movie that makes me laugh before I go to sleep. Then think happy thoughts before I go to sleep. (or daydream before drifting off to sleep). Thinking about something else before I go to sleep is helping me.
I also put drops of lilac oil on a piece of cloth near by... it makes me tired. I hope this helps.
That picture of Mitzie is adorable!

I have a pin cushion like that only it's red cloth with green threads like that. I have had it for years. My Mom bought it and she has one too.

I hope your dishwasher works this time. If it doesn't...tell them you need..want a new one.xo

    1. Don't worry Jan, if it is not working they will get an earful and I will want a new one! Thanks for the advice about lilac oil. I usually watch an episode of friends on my iPad before I go to sleep! Love and hugs, xoxo

  6. I love your Tuesday day book. It's always got things in it that I would love to make...I can knit and would love the hot air balloon tea cosy..but as we say it's very rarely that we use a t cosy nowadays......if I did I would find out that pattern !....I agree with you about debt...it is the curse of the century. I once read that almost 2 in 5 are in debt...I have never been in debt. Mum brought us up to. hate debt in any form. Her motto was if you need something you wait till you can afford it...if it's not there when you can afford it you didn't need it !! When I see these companies on TV offering loans etc I look down at the small print to see what the interest rate is there is one that's interest rate is 10008% !!! But most are over 100% People can never ever get themselves out of that kind of debt....anyway. I'm going tomorrow to try to buy myself a new mobile phone one that is easy to use !! Night night. God bless. Xxxx

    1. Oh boy Sybil, that is a hunka hunka burning interest! I thought the government was making that illegal. Sad, sad. Our debt is really minimal, but when you are on a fixed income, it is no fun! Love and hugs! xoxo

  8. Your Book of Mormon thoughts were awesome. I love the verse, "Lift up your head and be comforted". Then Mosiah 7:33 is a powerful verse. Everyday, as i read, I marvel at the things I am learning and some of the verses are so precious.
Your corner of the kingdom photo is so beautiful. I would love to visit Scotland and here. I do have Scottish ancestry.
Your Mitzie is just so adorable; the photo is so cute.
I do enjoy BBC mysteries so I will look into it.
I loved the photos of the clothes you chose and especially the white blouse.
The ring is beautiful. I do love rings but have grounded m husband from buying me any more jewelry since we have retired.
I liked the book you are reading and will add it to my bulging list of books to read.
Thanks for the apple buying and cooking guide; I needed it.
You had a number of fun items to look at.
    The food looks good too.
I do understand totally the debt thing; we have the same problem.
Sending warm thoughts and extra hugs your way!
