Its the little things . . .

“The little things? The little moments? They aren’t little.” ~Jon Kabat-Zinn

Every day I find that I am surrounded by ordinary miracles. Small things that bring me joy and might have gone un-noticed and un-remarked except that I have chosen to acknowledge them and give them voice. Little things that touch my heart and make me smile.

The sight of a small white feather caught in the branches of the hedgerow in the garden reminds me of my many feathered friends that live amongst the shrubbery and hedges that border our back garden on all three sides. I think of the wonderful gifts they bring to us every day of their beautiful songs . . . and the delight we find in watching their antics as they travel to and from our feeders. Down south we had many more varieties . . . up here it is mostly just sparrows, with the odd robin and black bird. Occasionally there are a pair of goldfinches who come and we have seen tits on several occasions . . . no matter that they are not exotic or unsual. They please us every day.

It doesn't seem to matter if I have only been out of the room for 2 minutes or out of the house for 2 hours . . . the minute I return I am greeted most enthusiastically by our lovely Mitzie. It is nice to be loved and to love back. When I get up in the morning, before I can do anything else, it is cuddle time and I sit on the sofa and stroke her silken ears as she makes those little “doggie” type of loving noises that lets me know that she is enjoying every minute of the attention and my heart melts. She often lays by my feet as I type away on the computer in the morningsr snuggles next to me on the sofa as I watch the television. Her cuddly warmth next to me is just like a big cosy hug.

I am always on the look out for little gems and gifts . . . the way the sunlight dances across the dry leaves that linger in the garden, the sight of a butterfly’s wings fluttering against the window panes in my kitchen window just as dusk begins to settle in, the wispiness of the clouds in a deep blue sky as they travel slowly across my line of sight, the sound of my Todd's breathing in bed . . . going softly in and out, the silence here in our little terraced house of an early morning as the earth outside begins to wake up, and I hear the little twitters and melodies of the birds in the bushes and the rattle of the milk float as it slowly moves up the street . . .

The sun begins to rise above the horizon and bathes everything in it’s special early morning golden glow . . . dry leaves and branches gilded in the crystal glint of a February frost
These everyday things might be taken for granted and often are, if we don’t take the time to stop and breathe them into our being. These little snippets of joy, free for the taking . . . are what makes life so beautiful and worth living. I hope I never stop seeing them, or hearing them, or feeling them . . .

We've been enjoying this new show on the BBC called All Together Now.    The concept is that hopeful singers get onto the stage and perform in front of 100 musical people and halfway through their song the 100 have the opportunity to push a button and stand up and start singing along with the hopeful contestant. The goal is to get as many people up singing along with you as possible.  The two contestants each week with the highest scores go through to the final and have an opportunity to win £50,000.  I like the concept, although I am not sure I like all of the 100 so called musical celebrities.  But meh.  Who am I.  I think it takes an incredible amount of courage to do what the contestants are doing and they make me want to get up and sing, they do, they do, they do, they do . . . they do . . . .

At least there is no sex, bad language or violence.
not yet anyways!
lol

Having watched all seven seasons and a year in the life three times now, we have started to watch The Gilmore Girls again for the 4th time.  Yes, I know . . . 4 times you say?  Well, we like it, and we are always seeing stuff we missed the first 3 times!  Simply put, we enjoy it.  I do have to say however that A Year in the Life was not quite as good as the original in my opinion, but sequels seldom are. It did wind everything up nicely however for the most part.

Now here is a question for any Gilmore Girl Fans out there, who was Rory's best boyfriend? In your opinion that is.  And why?

I wish they hadn't taken Friday Night Lights off of Netflix.  I only got to watch that once on the run through and would have liked to watch it a second time. Oh well . . .

And now I am prattling, so I best wind this down  with a thought for today  . . .

  1. When I was shoveling snow from the last snow storm, I heard a woodpecker. Hopefully that's a sign of an early spring. I'll have to google it Marie. Lol.

It was in the 40's today! It made me even more motivated!

I use to watch Friday Night Lights when it first came on tv. I think I only watch Gilmore Girls only a few times. Gasp I don't have cable! I don't miss it all that much. I have alot of movies to watch! When I go over my parents house, I check what's on tv and I'm not missing much. I like Dancing with the stars and the gladiators. Those I really miss! Sometimes I catch my Mom watching cartoons or a kids show. My Dad mostly watches the news or auctions or court on his tv. Also gives the dogs way to many treats for going potty outside. Plus he makes many trips back and fourth to tell my Mom the news, whether she wants to know or not. I just laugh and I feel so blessed to have both of them still!

The older (younger) I get the more louder and fiester I am! I was kind of quiet around guys esp if I liked someone than.

I love all the blue and white going on and those cookies must of smelled so good well baking Marie.xo

    1. We don’t have cable either Jan. we mostly watch Netflix, or Amazon Prime or DVD ‘s. We also have a free sat box which gives us all the basic channels. I still have both my parents also, although I do wish I could see them more often and lived closer! Xoxo

    2. That was changed along time ago around here. Can't even get 1 free channel anymore. Lol. I only have internet on my phone and it's not that great of a company. I'm hoping for this other internet company to come here. It's only one state away and it's much cheaper and you get more GBs, even on your phone. Crossing my fingers. I know it's hard not having your family live closer. Hopefully soon, you can go visit them. God works in mysterious ways! I lived out west years ago with my then husband for 6 months. It was esp hard during the holidays. There was no internet or cell phones either!xo

  3. Hi Marie~

The small things in life are most often the best...I love the birds, and it makes me so happy to wake up to their song...small things. With every changing season there are small miracles that happen all around us, budding trees, little flowers that seem to pop up overnight, the color of the sunrise, all small things if you don't look at them as miracles.

Mitzie is such an adorable little girl, what a blessing she is for you; a constant reminder that you are loved!

Believe it or not, I've never watched Gilmore Girls! My sister loves it, her family has given her all the DVD's for Christmas and birthdays...she adores it!

Better run, it sounds like Bob is ready to get out the door to church!

Have a beautiful Sabbath! Glad Todd is doing better!

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb
