My Favourite Things . . .

A few of the things I really love in life, maybe some of them are yours also. Lets share together!
Snuggly cosy on a stormy day. The storm might be raging outside the door, but we are all tucked up and warm in our cosy little home.
Tea Cosies.  I love tea cosies, even though I don't really drink tea.  This one is a free pattern from Red Heart.
Winter candles . . .  candles are not quite the same in summertime. It stays light too late.  In Winter you have the early nights, twilight afternoons that show candlelight off to its best.  Snuggle snuggle.

Redwork embroidery.  This combines my love of all things red and white with my love of embroidery.  Two loves together.  You can't get much better!
Art by Carter Goodrich
Owls.  I find them fascinating.  I love watching nature shows about them. I find birds fascinating in general, but owls really interest me.  When I was a child I loved it when Mr DressUp consulted with Mr Wise Old Owl.  I believe that Mr Rogers had an owl he talked to as well.
Bird houses.  I love bird houses and would have a garden filled with them if I could.  I love painting them also.  I have one here that I painted with cherries back when I was first learning how to Tole Paint many, many years ago.  I will have to take a photo of it to show you one day.  When my ex husband and I built our house in New Brunswick I had bird house curtain tie backs in our bedroom.  I loved those  . . .

Whirligigs.  I adore whirligigs.  If I could, I would have a garden filled with them also!  Simple or complicated.  I love them all.

I quite simply adore Hot Dogs.  I know that they are filled with ucky stuff, I don't care.  It doesn't bother me.  I love Hot Dogs.  With mustard and relish and onions.  I am not a lover of ketchup with bread, so I won't have that on my hot dog, however  . . .  if I am just eating the frankfurter, I love LOVE dipping it in ketchup.  I know . . .  me=nuts.

48 casseroles for busy nights
Casseroles.  I love Casseroles.  One of the things I always liked about Pot Luck suppers was the casseroles.  I love throwing ingredients together and coming up with a delicious casserole.  Mmm. Mmm. Mmm.

Older men.  This is Martin Shaw the actor.  Older men are really hubba hubba to me. I have seen photos of Martin Shaw when he was younger, and he doesn't do it for me, but age him up and give him white hair and I am all gaga.  Men seem to get better looking as they age.  Why couldn't women be so lucky?  There are very few women who actually age beautifully. Men on the other hand . . . grey hair and a few wrinkles and wowsa.  Its not fair!

Clocks.  We have four here in our lounge.  One is a cuckoo clock and then we have a Grandmother clock, a westminster wall clock and a mantle clock.  All chime and tick and tock and make noises.  In my craft room I have a little German girl on a swing clock, in the Kitchen a teapot with a swinging pendulum, and we have a host of alarm clocks. Tick tock Tick tock.  I think this clock here is very beautiful.
Old mirrors  . . .  aged, crazed and mottled.  They make me think about all the people who might have gazed into them through the years . . . if they could talk what could an old mirror tell us . . .

Cast Iron bed steads  . . .  especially if they are painted . . .  and wooden floor boards . . .  painted as well.  Love them both.
Children's faces.  They are not afraid to express how they are feeling.  Filled with wonder and joy.

Maxine.  She says what we would all love to be able to say out loud.

And those are my favourite things for this week.  What are some of yours?

A thought to carry with you  . . .

BOOK OF MORMON CORNER - Today's Reading -Jacob 4:1-18
Question - what have you learnt from the reading today? What is Jacob teaching us about prayer and the power of words?
My thoughts - Man and earth were created by the power of His word. Can we do that? Nope! So why should we think we can counsel the Lord and why do we do it?  I think we do it because we are afraid.  Afraid that He doesn't love us as much as He says He does. Afraid that He doesn't have our best interests at heart. Afraid that He has forgotten us.  Fear and faith can't dwell together. I love that our Saviour has been our prime example of how to pray. "Not my will, but thine, be done". There is no fear in that but absolute faith in Heavenly Father. Faith that all He brings into our lives is for our eternal growth. Thy will be done - striving to make this my walk.
"Behold, great and marvelous are the works of the Lord. How unsearchable are the depths of the mysteries of him; and it is impossible that man should find out all his ways. And no man knoweth of his ways save it be revealed unto him; wherefore, brethren, despise not the revelations of God." God hides His mysteries in plain sight, but can only be understood by revelation. God is waiting to answer our prayers, but he does not force us. He waits for us to ask, with real intent and sincere hearts.
The Lord gives us his word, we use that to develop our testimony, and then we use our testimony to do mighty things, it's as simple as that.
Tomorrow's Reading (Day 80) - Jacob 5: 1-18
Question -  What have you learnt from the reading today? In what ways does the Lord nourish you?

In The English Kitchen today  . . .  Copycat Swiss Chalet BBQ Sauce.  This stuff is amazing.  We love it!
Have a fabulous Thursday, it is very cold and wet here!  Brrrr.... stay warm and don't forget!

  1. I love to burn candles all the time! Mulberry is my favorite scent. What is your favorite scent Marie?

I love beef hot dogs in the summer with plenty of onions on top.

I have alot of bird houses for decorations.

I have a huge mirror that sits above my buffet that I love. Also have a round mirror that was my Aunt Emily's before she went to heaven.

That sauce sounds like a good one to try. It must be real flavorful with all those spices in it.

I have a clock in the kitchen with a picture of a rooster in it. Also have a clock in the den with pool balls that have numbers on it bc someday I want a pool table. So it's a start. Lol.

It's 8 degrees outside here! I shoveled for the 5th time this winter! I'm so over it!

    Stay warm!

    Love and big hugs!xo

  2. Hi Marie, I love all your finds again today except for one! I think I've told you before that I just hate a ticking clock. Not sure why or how it started. I think its just the constant reminder that my life is passing by!!!

We were out for dinner last night with my sister and b-i-l and the weather was atrocious. So cold and stormy we couldnt wait to get back in to our warm little flat!

We're off to London tomorrow for four days. I've just checked the weather for the weekend and Saturday looks nice so we'll have a good day out with Christian, but Sunday is a wash out so we'll probably be stuck in. Whoopee Doo!!!

Have a great day, lots of love xxx

  3. I am the same w/ a ticking clock..love them at other peoples homes..it gives tranquility it seems..when I was a realtor and no one was there but me..the tic tocs would be calming..but at home I need silence for sleep..in winter central air..makes a noise hen I sleep and I sleep worse than usual:)

In Fl..we trade ticking clocks for non ticking..it's like a drip drip drip ..lol..but they are beautiful and we do have clocks.. many are not working:(

    I love too many things..

A girl on VS was selling a retro hot dog cooker..new at a very very reasonable price.I have reserved it so the Littles can make some:) Once in a blue moon;)Have a great day.I notice a Spring in your step today:)

  4. Funny you should mention hot dogs as I cooked up some for lunch this week. They always seem to hit the spot! Yes, children's faces are always so precious. Their honest expressions delight me over and over! Hope your Thursday is a good one ! The sun is shinning here !

  6. Hi Marie~

Oh my, to sit by a fire on a cold winter night...delightful! I wish we would have a cold winter night, feels like spring here in Idaho! I am burning candles, I'm trying to get Old Man Winter to come see us!

Redwork embroidery is so beautiful, simplicity at it's best.

I love owls too, they just fascinate me to no end! They are kind of scary, but I just love to hear them hoot. I don't hear them very often, but when I do, I always get the shivers! Love, Carter Goodrich's work as well.

I love hot dogs...with the same condiments as you like (big shock), but I also like to eat them uncooked. When we had field trips at school, my mother would always put a cold hot dog sandwich in our sack lunch...I loved them, and I still love them.

Older men are - ooh la la to me as well! Yes, Martin Shaw is very handsome! Jeff Bridges and Charles Brolin . . . COME ON, they are so handsome! Yes, older men just have something that special something that comes with age.

I would love to have a grandfather clock - they sooth my soul. I have a lovely mantle clock that sits on my 200 year old piano. It's battery run, but I still love to hear it chime.

Patina on an old mirror is so gorgeous! I have an old mirror that my grandmother gave me, I love it, and would love to see the faces that looked into it... :0)

Oh, that baby face!! They really are so uninhibited . . . those cheeks!!

Very wonderful finds! I love Maxine - she really does tell it like it is. Today I was coloring my hair, and my grandson was here. He looked at me and said...That's gonna make a mess! And he was right! I can never color my hair without a new spot on the bathroom floor...ahhhhh.

It is all about faith. I need to work on this one. Your words were perfect, and a good reminder to have more faith and trust in Him. God loves us so much, and really, all we need to do is ask. Amen.

    Love you sweet friend!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  7. My favourite scent for candles changes with the seasons Jan! Around Christmas I like a Christmassy scent and in the autumn I like apple spice scents and the rest of the year I have a lavendar and lemon one I really enjoy! I love beef hotdogs any time of year! I can't get enough of them! lol Love and hugs, xoxo PS - Do try the sauce!

Yes, I think you have told me Kate, perhaps I am repeating myself, DOH! I wear ear plugs so they don't bother me when I am sleeping! I hope you have a lovely weekend in London! Drive safely! Love you! xoxo

Monique, I wear soft rubber ear plugs in bed. They keep out most sounds. I can't even stand to hear anyone breathing when I am trying to fall asleep. I hope the boys enjoy the retro hot dog cooker! Sounds like it might be right up their alley! I am making a conscious effort to feel more positive! I did get in and do some painting also. Might have helped, plus I started taking Vitamin D. Large dose. xoxo

Hooray for sunny days Pam! I love when you share photos of your grandchildren. they are so precious! xoxo

He does look like a nice person Excentric! I don't know what he is like in real life, but I have never heard anything bad about him. I loved him in George Gently! xoxo

Most fascinating thing I have ever seen Barb was one night on our way home from an activity at the church, a barn owl was flying along side of the car, perhaps using our headlights to hunt?? I don't know, but I was totally mesmerized. Todd couldn't watch because he was driving! Jeff Bridges and James Brolin do it for me also. Hubba hubba! Barbara Streisand is a lucky woman, haha! I have never had a cold hot dog, but imagine it would taste a lot like bologna! I love bologna sandwiches, but sadly we cannot get bologna over here. Probably a good thing too! ha! Sometimes it is hard to trust and have faith. We tend to want everything right NOW instead of waiting on the Lords timing. I am working on that myself! Love and hugs to you. xoxo

  8. It snowing a lot tonight so I have my warm socks on while we are watching the TV. I just need some hot coco. I like the tea cosies but really love the more colorful ones you make. I love candles in the winter too. I especially like the flickering on the walls from them.
I feel like doing embroidering is becoming a lost art. I used to do it years ago.
I really love birds, owls and bird houses. This summer I am going to have a bird house or two in my yard.
I love hot dogs especially at a ball game. Thanks for the link for the casseroles.
I do love my older hubby; I think he is so handsome with his gray hair. Very distinguished. Some older actors are pretty handsome too.
We have a couple of clocks that chime. I have tuned them out most of the time; but I do love hearing them when I do.
Babies faces are just so adorable. I just want to kiss their cheeks.
Maxine is the best; I must borrow this one; so cute.
Sending warm thoughts and hugs your way!
