The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, December 6, 2016

Outside my window ...
Its cold and dark, but a bit milder than it has been for the past few days.  There is no frost this morning.  I like it when it is a bit frosty because it usually portends a clear day.  Milder means rain.  Blah!

I am thinking ...
It will be our last district meeting with all of the missionaries in our District this morning.  Kind of sad about that.  It has been such a joy to serve with all of the young people we have served with over the past 18 months.

This is our latest bunch along with the guy from the Chester Homeless Association on a service day they did last week, sorting donations to the homeless.  What a lovely bunch they are.  I know I say that about every one we have served with, but its true.  They are all great kids and I love them to pieces.

In the Kitchen ...

Spiced Hot Chocolate.  Sweetened with just a touch of molasses and cinnamon.  This is delicious!

On my "To Cook" list ...

From "The Girl Who Ate Everything"  Cookie Cutter Peppermint Bark. Cute!  What a great idea.  You can leave the bark in the cookie cutter for gifting!  Great idea!

Good to know ...

How not to be hard on yourself.  From Heal Dove.

 I am creating ...

A gingham tea cosy.  I love it!  From Yarnspirations.  It's not free but it's adorable.

From Just Pootling.  A sweet Waffle Stitch blanket.  Complete Tutorial.  I love the colours.

DIY gift bags.  From Designer Trapped.   This is a great idea!

Popsicle Stick Sleds. So cute.  From Clean and Scentsible.

Recycled K-Cup Snowman Hats.  So cute.  From Pink & Glitter.

I am reading ...

Into the Wilderness, by Sara Donati
Weaving a tapestry of fact and fiction, Sara Donati's epic novel sweeps us into another time and place...and into the heart of a forbidden affair between an unconventional Englishwoman and an American frontiersman.

It is December of 1792. Elizabeth Middleton leaves her comfortable English estate to join her family in a remote New York mountain village. It is a place unlike any she has ever experienced. And she meets a man unlike any she has ever encountered - a white man dressed like a Native American, Nathanial Booner, known to the Mohawk people as Between-Two-Lives. Determined to provide schooling for all the children of the village, she soons finds herself locked in conflict with the local slave owners as well as her own family.

Interweaving the fate of the Mohawk Nation with the destiny of two lovers, Sara Donati's compelling novel creates a complex, profound, passionate portrait of an emerging America.

Quite enjoying!

I am looking forward to ...
Puting our tree up hopefully tomorrow.

Corners of my kingdom ...

Hadrian's Wall, also called the Roman Wall, Picts' Wall, or Vallum Hadriani in Latin, was a defensive fortification in the Roman province of Britannia, begun in 122 AD in the reign of the emperor Hadrian. It ran from the banks of the River Tyne near the North Sea to the Solway Firth on the Irish Sea, and was the northern limit of the Roman Empire, immediately north of which were the lands of the northern Ancient Britons, including the Picts.

To separate the Romans from the Barbarians of the North . . .

And that's my daybook for this week!

  2. One of the homes I lived in as a child was very similar to the one you pictured. I had my 16th birthday there so it is unforgettable. I also had the mumps when I live there and that is something I'd like to forget ! Ha!

Hope your Tuesday is a terrific one !

  3. Tonight I hope you and Todd and Mitzie are all wrapped up and sitting in your favourite chairs relaxing after what I expect has been an emotional day as you once more said fair well to your lovely missionaries....We have had a horrid day down here, the mist/fog has been so thick I couldn't even see the trees over on the rec. Mary and I had planned to go and do some shopping this morning but when we saw how grey and damp it was we decided staying at home was a better idea. Tomorrow, hopefully it will be brighter and we can go then, certainly hope so.....like you I would much prefer a bright frosty morning...night night God Bless xx
