The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, January 19th, 2016

Outside my window ...
It's dark.  It's wet.  It's cold. That's Winter in the UK.

I am thinking ...

I love this quote from President Monson.  It's so true.  Courage is the guy that, after having been knocked down, gets back up again and moves forward despite having been knocked down.

I am thankful for ...
I am really thankful for my husband.  He is my world.  I know, there is a risk in making someone the centre of your world, but its too late now.  He IS already my world. lol

In The Kitchen ...

Vegetable Soup with Bacon Dumplings.  Delicious.

On my "To Cook" list ...

From Prairie Gal Cookin, Hillbilly Apple Pie.  This looks fabulous!  And I know Todd would love it.

I am creating ...

These Melted Bead Sun Catchers look pretty simple to make.  Love the heart shapes.  This would be a fun craft for the kiddies.  From  Teach MaMa.

I love this Altered Couture Matchbox from Graphic 45.   There is a complete Tutorial.

Heart Doily "Stenciled" table napkins.  What a simple, yet very pretty idea!  From Design Improvised.

Knitted Wall Art for the craft room perhaps?  From Tinksitiina.

How to use Oxi Clean to create a Distressed background.  Found on Splitcoast Stampers.

This is the end result, and there's a video tutorial also.

I am reading ...

A Lineage of Grace, by Francine Rivers

In this compilation of the five books in the best-selling Lineage of Grace series by Francine Rivers, we meet the five women whom God chose—Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary. Each was faced with extraordinary—even scandalous—challenges. Each took great personal risk to fulfill her calling. Each was destined to play a key role in the lineage of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the World. I am now on Rahab. I love these types of books and I love Francine Rivers as an author. Scarlet Thread is one of my all time favourite books of hers.  I know it seems like it is taking me a long time to get through this one, but it is a compilation of five books!

Looking Forward to ...
We are having all four elders for supper tonight.  Really looking forward to that!   I made the filling for my enchiladas last night when we got back from our Senior Missionary Meeting.  So excited!  I love feeding the Missionaries as you know!

I am learning ...
Everything I do doesn't have to be perfect.  But to a perfectionist like myself, this is a hard lesson to learn.

Dreaming about ...

Vintage Cookery books.  I love them.  I have a couple and they are filled with little gems.

The wind on my face and in my hair.  Have not ridden a bicycle for years, but I have many fond memories of those days.  Ahh . . .

Hot Air Balloons.  When we lived down South we often had them flying overhead.  Always waved to the people in them.  Magical. I would love to take a ride in a Hot Air Balloon.  On my bucket list  . . .

Being able to do this with my hair again.  Can't wait . . .

Patchwork Quilts  . . .  so pretty.

A favourite quote for the day  ...

As the moon lights our path, so does hope light our way.

One of my favourite things  ...

Vintage clip art  . . .  I love it.  It reminds me of my childhood.

A peek into my day  ...

Sometimes there is a bit too much of this  . . .

And  . . .  not enough of that!  Less drudgery more fun!  Less drudgery more fun!  If you say that really fast, four times, whilst turning around with your eyes closed and clicking your heels together . . . . do ya think?

And that's my daybook for this week!

  1. Are you growing your hair out, Marie? I'm getting ready to cut mine again. I cut it short (short-ish, at least) every few years, it seems. :)

    Have fun cooking today. :)

  6. Hi Marie! Love your daybook, it's such a fun way to learn fun things about people, and you are fun!

I'm really interested in the book, Lineage of Grace. For our New Beginnings program, we are focusing on women from the scriptures, who pressed forward through whatever trial they were given. I think I need to read this book!

I also love vintage cookbooks and have several that I just love. One was a cookbook that was my mother's ward cookbook when she was first married. There are some real treasures in that book, and some that I still use often.

Thank you for your reminder to enjoy the small blessings!

  7. I am growing it out again Val! We just can't afford the expenditure of going to the hairdressers every 6 to 8 weeks. I have been cutting Todd's hair myself for about 14 years now, but I wouldn't dare let him cut mine, haha. I like my hair short, but I also like it long. xoxo

You too Suzan. I know it is tomorrow now for you, but I hope your tomorrow is blessed! xoxo

I did have a terrific Tuesday Pam, but very busy! xoxo

Yay Monique! I can remember being absolutely thrilled when Branson showed up also. I had been missing him. And don't you feel so sorry for Thomas this series? xoxo

Ohhh, drop scones Sybil. Aren't you spoiled! I love them too. They definitely are not like our flapjacks, lol A Chicken Pie Dinner sounds just the ticket. I am sure Peter enjoyed it! xoxo

It's a very long book Barb, four in one actually, and there are study guides included so you can dig even further to the scriptures. I love cookbooks especially when they are like your mother's ward cookbook. I would love to have my mother's Co-op cookbook one day that she had when she got first married. It is a real gem! xoxo

  8. Your day book always makes me smile. I loved all the projects links; you come up with the best. I like to look at them all; but doing them is usually another story. The books look fascinating. I will put them on a wish list for later reading. I have a stack to finish at some point.
I too love to feed the missionaries. We have them to lunch every week before our weekly meeting with them. They are so fun. I am assuming that you are going to be able to watch the World Mission Conference. We had it today and it was awesome.
Have a blessed week dear friend! Hugs!=~

  9. You would not believe what happened LeAnn! We were not able to see the World Mission Broadcast. It was quite frustrating. Because the sisters we were picking up to take to their new area (which is an hour from where we live) were held up in a meeting at the Mission Home in Manchester, they were very late getting in to the station and then very late getting to their flat in their new area. The Broadcast had already started by the time they got to the flat. By the time we got everything upstairs to the flat and were back down again, it was more than half over and it would have been at least another 45 minutes to the place where we needed to go to see the broadcast, so the zone leaders told us not to bother and so did the other Senior Couple. I was so disappointed. :-(

Your comments mean the world to me, and while I may not be able to address each one individually, each one is important to me and each one counts. Thanks so much!
