Friday Finds . . .
A few of the things I find each week that tickle my fancy, that I hope will also tickle yours. Can you believe that Christmas is one week from today??? Its come up on us rather quickly I think! I do so love this time of year. ☺
These Scottish shortbread cookies from Baking Bites look absolutely gorgeously perfect. I do love a good shortbread cookie, don't you? I had the perfect recipe from Canadian Living that I use every year, or at least I used to use every year until I lost the sheet of paper it was on. It also had my absolute favourite almond cookie recipe on it as well as really fabulous apricot squares. I can't believe I lost the paper!
From Lil Luna, 40+ Food Gift ideas. Some of these are really nice.
Are these decorated Sugar Cookies not the prettiest you have ever seen?? They look very simple to do as well. From The Monday Box.
Aren't these Crochet Knee Socks sweet? I think they are adorable! I couldn't wear them, but if you were young and had great pins, they would be just gorgeous! From CokaCrochet on Etsy, an instant download pattern, at a very reasonable price.
Organize Your Week printables from Polished Habitat. I need all the help I can get!
This Gingerbread Doll Pattern is so cute. It looks like a towell topper or a pot holder. You can get the pattern for free with registration on the Free Patterns website. So adorable!
Thirty One Things you can freeze to save time and Money. Found and Featured.
Eight Simple and Memorable Christmas Eve Traditions. I love holiday traditions, don't you? From Clarks Condensed. When the kids were growing up we always did up a surprise Christmas basket for some family we thought were in need, took a drive to see the Christmas Lights in the neighborhood, did Christmas Cookie Trays up for friends and family, Gingerbread houses, etc.
These Beaded Snowflake ornaments are so cute. I love them. It isn't too late to pop one or two of these out! From the people at BHG. Simple.
Seventeen Free Printable Christmas Games. From The Bold Abode. Some of these are really cute!
And that's it for this week, and probably this year! I don't think there is another Friday until the first of January. I certainly won't be doing one on Christmas day!
I had a nice afternoon with my friends at our friend Lesley's house yesterday afternoon. We had a bit of a tea party and I did a craft with them. Just some button wreath Christmas Ornaments to hang on the tree. Simple. I have to say I have felt pretty rough this morning, but blogging is a great distraction. The pain is worse today than it was yesterday. I did not sleep a lot last night. They were itching me and hurting and I kept waking up from it. With every itch, even on places I don't have them, I was awake and worrying were they spreading to my face, my ears, etc. lol What a worry wart I can be sometimes. What will be will be. The pain is the worst though, like all of your nerve endings are being pinced and are on fire and itching all at the same time. I called our friend Doreen to say we would not be able to come over to visit and she has the Shingles too. Please keep her in your happy thoughts and prayers. At the age of 86, this cannot be very pleasant for her.
I think I may try to go back to bed now. And with that I will leave you with a thought for the day . . .

"But in this season it is well to reassert
that the hope of mankind rests in faith.
"As man thinketh, so he is."
Nothing much happens unless you believe,
and believing there is hope for the world
is a way to move toward it."
~Gladys Taber

And I do too!
Marie this is a quick answer. The shingles will follow a nerve pattern. So once they appear the path should be predictable.
ReplyDeletePip and I are off to the Nutcracker and it is stinking hot for best dresses with synthetic linings. I will survive.
I will check all the pretties later.
Oh Marie, I just wish I could do something to help relieve your pain. But do pray that the pain will ease soon...I remember when my sister Sarah had it on her face and was so worried it was going to effect her eyes..thankfully it didn't, nor did she have any lasting pain...hope you have had an extra time in bed. Mary and I going away into Bath to try to get Mitch and Peter sorted out for Xmas ....take care xx
ReplyDeleteYes, rest is the answer, Marie, but hard for a live wire like you. I'm sure xx
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry that you aren't doing well at such a busy time of year, but rest is important for you. I must check out the Scottish Shortbread recipe. I purchased some this year at a craft bazaar and fell in love with it and now must find how to make it myself.
ReplyDeleteWE Pin so many of the same things:)
ReplyDeleteIt's uncanny.
You were atrooper to go out yesterday:)
Hi Marie, I know just what you are going through, I had a bout in july & Im still uncomfortable. The rash, blisters & most of the pain went within 3 wks only to replaced by the sensations of the nerve endings healing. Thinks nettle stingings. Dr gave me Panadol & codeine for pain control with Amlytripteline ( ?spelling)at night to ease the nerve impulses. The latter gave me some peace at night.. I wish I could help.Sending a hug anyway. MARGARET
ReplyDeleteI kept waking up last night with the stinging and tingling and then I would get an itch on my face or ear Suzan, and I had to get up to see if it had spread to there. I was being a bit paranoid I think! Hope you enjoyed the Nutcracker! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks Sybil! I hope you were able to get what you wanted for Mitch and Peter. My mother had Shingles on her head and face and they did go into her eye. They left her partially blind in that eye. I know that pain in the head is worse than pain anywhere else. xoxo
Yes, Bunny, you know me. I can't stand to just sit and do nothing. xoxo
It has sure clipped my wings a bit Pam! I can't stand to sit at the comp for very long and the iPad doesn't co-operate with me very well. Homemade shortbread is the best! xoxo
I know Monique. We are two of a kind! I had promised to do a craft with the ladies and they had all had chicken pox already and nobody was too concerned about my passing it on, so I went so as not to disappoint, but I was very tired last night. I hope to sleep well tonight! xoxo
Hi Margaret! I have nothing for pain control. I do have Aciclovir, 800mg 5 times a day which hopefully will prvent it from spreading. I wish I had something for pain! Thank you for the hug! xoxo
ReplyDeleteMarie, can't you take something like paracetamol for the pain, or aspirin..both are safe to take unless you over dose on how many you take..I' sure don't like the thought you suffering any pain needlessly xxx
ReplyDeleteHi Marie - So sorry you are suffering. Shingles is so nasty.
ReplyDeleteAs a distraction, I have an old Canadian Living tear-out from the late 80's or early 90's called the Christmas Cookie Book. It is my go to each Christmas. It has a recipe for Almond Shorties (under the Canadian Classics section), multiple shortbreads (I make the classic one and the brown sugar one and the oatmeal one) and Apricot Hazelnut Bars. If these are the recipes you lost I would be happy to send them to you if you send me your email address.
All the best. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Sylvia
Marie I think you should have some pain relief as shingles is plain out nasty. On the flip side I know there was little comfort for dad. But he honestly did not understand what was wrong. I hope that you get some rest tonight.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I am taking two co-codemol first thing in the morning Sybil as it is first thing in the morning that is worst of all. I can take up to 8 of those a day, but they are supposed to be for my arthritis. I am not sure if they are helping or not. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI would love those recipes Sylviadh! My e-mail address is: mariealicejoan at aol dot com Thank you so very much!! You are so kind! xoxo
I can imagine how bad it was for your father Suzan, especially where he didn't understand what was going on. xoxo
