The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .
FOR TODAY, October 13th, 2015
Outside my window ...
It's very dark. Only the barest ligth appearing in the sky to the front of me. The days are getting really short now. I hate the shorter days and longer nights, or it would probably be better to say, I hate being out and about on the longer nights. Travel in the dark is not my favourite thing.
I am thinking ...
I am dizzy almost constantly. I am wondering why and thinking that I don't really like it very much. I felt better before they told me I was diabetic and put me on the medication. It makes me very afraid to go very far from the house. I should have gone to a meeting in Manchester yesterday, but was afraid to go because I wouldn't be able to get home if I took a spell . . .
I am thankful for ...
A son who messages me frequently on the iPad and who facetimes me often. It helps me to stay connected to my family in Canada. I miss them very much even though I don't often speak of it. His thoughtfulness means the world to me.
In the kitchen ...
A Peat Sandwich. Pancetta, Egg, Avocado and Tomato on a seeded whole grain bread, open faced and quite healthy. (Believe it or not!) This was fabulous.
On my "To Cook" list ...
These Spiced Pumpkin Whoopie Pies look pretty good. Found on The Chunky Chef.
I am creating ...
I've been making felt Christmas Ornaments for my family. It's fun. I really enjoy it and think they are turning out really nice.
This is exciting! How to make fairy wings with a hangers and tights. From Handmade Happy Hour.
A Pom Pom Fairy Garland from Raising Up Rubies.
Ribbon and Flower Crowns. A complete tutorial on Aesthetic Nest.
Crafty Gift Wrap for all Occasions, from the people at BHG.
I am reading ...
The Fairy Tale Girl, by Susan Branch
In 1977, the year I turned 30, three life-changing things happened. I got married. I got a kitty. And I painted my first picture. All of it went into the diaries I've been keeping since I was in my 20s, because, most of the time, my life has felt like a miracle and I didn't want to forget any of it. And that's what THE FAIRY TALE GIRL is about. It's an illustrated memoir, watercolored and hand-lettered, taken from my diaries and photo albums; a story of growing up in the lovely 1950s as the oldest of eight children, coming of age in the 1960s and 1970s and discovering art, cooking, feminism, rock and roll, and love. When my heart was broken into a thousand pieces, and the grief was so terrible I was inspired to run away from home in the naive hope of escaping the pain, I never gave up believing in and searching for my childhood dreams of happily ever after. If you like time travel, you've come to the right place. With Love, Susan Branch
Every bit as delightful as you would expect a book by Susan Branch to be. I am totally devouring it. I can't put it down, a real page turner . . . and am already chaffing at the bit for part two to be published, Martha's Vineyard, Isle of Dreams. (Not until next May! Sigh . . . ) The artwork is just wonderful as always. It's entertaining and wonderfully written. Loving the ribbon bookmark and just everything about it. You need to treat yourself and buy this book even if it's the only book you buy this year. It's a treasure that is destined to become a collectable. I am trying to savor it and make it last as long as I can. It's that good.
I am hoping ...
I baked chocolate chip cookies to take to the Missionary District Meeting today. I hope they like them.
Makes me smile ...
These youngsters always make me smile. I love them to bits. They come and they go, and when they do they always take a piece of my heart with them. I love knowing that I have little pieces of my heart all over the world.
I am learning ...
A whole new way of eating and cooking. It's not easy to change the habits of a lifetime.
Dreaming about ...
Cherries in Kent . . .
Character Dolls . . .
Vintage Fashion . . .
Polka Dot Cups and Saucers
Canopy Beds . . .

One of my favourite things ...
I just adore brooches and vintage looking jewelry. I have a few pins, but would love to have more. They can be quite expensive however. Charity shops are great places to buy them.
A peek into my day ...
I am mindful of and count my blessings each and every day of my life. An attitude of gratitude is where it's at.
And that's my daybook for this week.

And I do too!
Hi, Marie! I know what you mean--I've never liked being out & about after dark much during this time of year. So sorry to hear about this dizzyness you're having... Perhaps check with your doctor about the medications you're taking? That open-face sandwich looks sooo good. Deluxe breakfast there---mmm.... Whoopie Pies!! They remind me of home. :o) And I LOVE the pumpkin whoopies!! Your felt ornaments are sooo sweet!! I love the plum pudding one!! And those pom pom fairies are too cute! (How many exclamations can I use in one comment, you think?! ;o) Ooo... the Susan Branch book sounds sooo good. I love her work. I won't be able to get her book her, so I'll have wait and add it to my wish-list. Her books don't seem available for Kindle... But then, it's nice to have some real books, not always electronic ones... LOL! Wishing you a lovely week ahead, dear friend ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))
ReplyDeleteI hope that dizziness soon goes away. I wouldn't want to go anywhere feeling like that. I would tell the doctor about it as perhaps you medication needs adjustment. I never go any where in the evenings anymore. I don't see well to drive in the dark as head light glare almost blinds me. I stay home most evenings unless someone else is doing the driving. With it getting dark so early, I'm in bed earlier too. Hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteCould it be a side effect to the medicine? I find dizziness is often a side effect..Dr Monique asks.."How is your blood pressure?"
ReplyDeleteIs it low now?
Take care:)Changes are never easy..
hard to realize our bodies need something to help them feel better ..there are trade-offs..
The book looks fab.
I love that you get Face Time....You deserve AllTHETIME.
Thanks Tracy! You need to treat yourself. Normally I read everything on Kindle, but I make an exception for Susan Branch's books. They are worth the extras. Exceptional paper. Beautiful ribbon bookmark, lovely colours. You really need to get it! Love and hugs! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks Pam, it's very disconcerting and I don't even really feel like sitting in front of the comp or standing overly long in the kitchen, etc. I hate the dark nights and not being able to see also. xoxo
I am sure it is a side effect Monique. We will see what happens. I did have more bloods done last week, but no results yet. I love my facetimes, even if sometimes I end up feeling very bereft. That's life! xoxo
Well well I'm home now and guess what I have got today's blog...I can't understand this at all, but I'm pleased that you are back with me I've been so worried.......even asked Lura if she had been in contact lately !! As always a great read but I'm now going back to re read !! Take care. What's this about the dizzied ? You must ask your Dr if one of the new pills is having a reaction with another maybe...xxx
ReplyDeleteI always love your Daybook entries. The Christmas ornaments are adorable. You always have cute things to look at and link too.
ReplyDeleteI would love that era of book that you are reading.
I love vintage things so this was extra fun to read.
I do hope you get to feeling better. You will be in my prayers.
Sending love and hugs your way dear friend!
So good to see a comment from you Sybil! Glad that you got back safe and sound! Happy also that you got my blog today. I don't know what was up with that! The internet is a mystery to me at the best of times! xoxo
