Small and Wonderful Things . . .
"The world is fairly studded and strewn with pennies cast broadside from a generous hand. But who gets excited by a mere penny?...It is dire poverty indeed when a man is so malnourished and fatigued that he won't stoop to pick up a penny. But if you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted with pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. what you see is what you get." ~Anne Dillard
A few of the small and wonderful things which bring untold joy into my life. It's the small things in life which truly mean the most. Simple abundance . . . it's the best.
Red and white ribbons and ric rac. I adore ribbon and ric rac in any colour actually, but reds and whites together are my favourite combinations. These colours just make me happy together . . . I don't know why. Red and white gingham curtains . . . red and white table cloths . . . redwork embroidered pillow cases. They all make my heart smile.
The Camellia buds on the Camellia tree next to the front door. I look at them each time I go in and out of the house. I marvel at them . . . even though it's winter and it's cold and spring seems a long way off, each day these buds seem a little bit larger . . . and a little bit pinker. The lovely blooms on this tree were the first thing to greet us when we moved back here to Chester almost five years ago now . . . and each year when it blooms, I am reminded of God's goodness in providing for us and the light that is always at the end of dark tunnels.
Playing in my button box. Because I have been working on Raggedy Dolls, I am playing in my button box . . . running my fingers through the buttons looking for same size black buttons the right size for their eyes. I love buttons and each time I do a search, I am filled with delight and wonder at all of the different colours, shapes, sizes, styles . . . I have always had a love affair with buttons. I don't know why that is. I only know that I adore them.
Happily Ever After. I am living it . . .
We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
We have thirteen points of belief in our church which we all subscribe to which we call the Articles of Faith. This is number 11. I am grateful to live in a country where I am free to do this. There is a darkness in this world which seeks to take away this right from every individual. I pray each day that it will never succeed. We must never take our freedoms for granted. Freedom always comes with a price, and I am ever grateful to those who paid, and continue to pay . . . for the price for mine.
And that is my small and wonderful things for this week!
A thought to carry with you as you go about your day . . .

And I do too!
Good morning Marie,
ReplyDeleteI wish you a wonderful day. My morning was spent taking my cousin to hospital. Mum and Pip took dad to the doctor to have his toes attended too. Both big toes have become badly infected. Yesterday he found walking painful and we could not find his sandals. Some other resident had claimed them! All that is done now.
God bless your day and fill it with the sweet little joys you love to find.
Suzan
I think that is a common complaint of older people. Probably due to circulation problems. My mom has big problems with her toes and infections also. I am hoping your father's toes are sorted quickly, but also a problem with the elderly is long healing times. God bless your day also. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks Marie. Infection can increase confusion, which dad does not need. He is also diabetic and that slows things down too.
ReplyDeleteHi Marie, I love my Camellia bush too. Mine is red though. For the first time ever it started flowering at the end of December. It looks lovely still now in full bloom. I have been really busy lately as my partner George is in the middle of selling his house. It never ceases to amaze me the amount of 'stuff ' that gets accumulated over the years! Anyway we're going to the lakes next weekend for a break, just hoping the weather holds! Lots of love xxx

ReplyDeleteI'm sure you cherish every lucid moment Suzan. It's harsh getting old. Dreading it myself.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's early Katie! We are trying to cull "things" in our house as well! It's very much an ongoing process! Love and hugs and Happy Days! Xoxo
How wonderful to have something, anything at all, budding. Here all is still frozen and snow covered. We had a couple of warmer days and the icicles all fell off the house but still about a foot of white stuff on the ground.
ReplyDeleteThe only bud I have is indoors..more snow agin yeterday..yes feet are a concern in the elderly..
ReplyDeleteMost cannot care for them way down there.:(
I am flabbergasted at how many live their later years suffering.
Wills of rock..but not the most pleasant situations..
Good morning button lady! I love all different buttons too and also ribbons, ric rac and red gingham! :-) Together they just look fresh and crispy and evokes a happy feeling. I hope your day is going great so far. Love and hugs! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThe buds start to show on the Camillia bush before Christmas Pam! It takes quite a while for them to mature and burst into bloom! We may see them around the end of March. Very pretty when they do bloom! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI agree Monique. It almost makes one afraid to get old unless you have someone to take especially good care of you! Sadly I won't have anyone, so I am torn between wanting to live to a ripe old age and being afraid that I will! lol xoxo
I am not surprised we are yet again alike in this Valerie! Love and hugs to you too! xoxo
