Small and Wonderful Things . . .

"The world is fairly studded and strewn with pennies cast broadside from a generous hand. But who gets excited by a mere penny? It is dire poverty indeed when a man is so malnourished and fatigued that he won't stoop to pick up a penny. But if you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted with pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. What you see is what you get." ~Anne Dillard

A few of the small and wonderful things which bring untold joy into my life. It's the small things in life which truly mean the most. Simple abundance . . . it's the best.

I was able to go grocery shopping on Saturday and never needed to use the loo the whole time. I walked all through the store, etc. no problems. This was not really a small thing, it was huge!  I had not been out to do anything like that since early January.

I was also able to go to church yesterday and stay for the full two hours.  Being able to partake of the sacrament with the others, being able to go to Relief Society, and to be able to do so comfortably without fear of having an accident was also huge. I was so grateful to finally be able to attend both. What a great blessing to me it was.

I have been enjoying having Eileen here with me.  I thought it would be a lot more difficult than it has been adjusting to having another person here all the time. Its not been that hard at all. We laugh a lot and I am grateful to be her port in the storm. I think, all things considered, she is doing remarkably well. I am so glad that I was and am here to help support her through this rough patch.

There is nothing like a mother's love when you are sad and hurting.

I am so grateful to have a roof over my head. It's been so cold and snowy this Winter.  More snow is expected today, In fact, there is a winter storm watch in effect at the moment.

On Saturday Eileen and I went out and got another bird feeder and some seed and fat balls for the birds. I had wanted to do it quite a number of weeks ago, but stuff got in the way. So far we have only seen Blue Jays, but hey ho, they are birds too!  And Eileen loves them.

Sunday dinner with the family.  It was so lovely to be there. Cindy cooked a beautiful meal as always.  Dad enjoyed making Eileen laugh.  Eileen enjoyed being there. It was all good. Time spent with family is a real treasure.

This year has been a real trial so far and I am happy to see the back end of my health woes. I am so grateful for the tender mercies of the Lord which attended me during them, and for all of the comfort, support and prayers of others. It really helped me, especially in my low moments and I had quite a few of those, moments where I was afraid my life was going to be challenged in that way forever.  I know . . .  Me = such a drama queen.

I am happy that it is behind me now and I hope and pray that I don't have to go through it again. I am doing my best to try to blast away any kidney stones, etc.  Drinking lemon water, avoiding salt, etc.

I must apologize for any birthdays that I might have missed. I was unable to shop for cards, etc. Belated may be the way to go.

In any case, I am grateful for all of my blessings here today. I am grateful for my home, my faith, my family, my friends, my health, etc.  I am surely blessed with abundance in all of my needs and wants, and even have enough to share with others. Life is good.

A thought to carry with you . . .

Hasselback Turkey Divans

In The English Kitchen today  . . .  Hasselback Turkey Divans.  Another new old recipe that I felt was worth updating and resharing.  Tender turkey tenderloins, filled with a lush broccoli/cheese filling and baked to perfection.  Tender, juicy and delicious. I hope to get back to cooking and sharing some new recipes this week! That is my goal at any rate!

I hope you have a day filled with light and with love.  Be happy, be blessed.  Don't forget!

  1. So good you are back to doing your regular things of shopping, dinner at Cindy's, church etc. So much to be grateful for. Onwards and upwards! Enjoy Monday and all it brings.
