Not my usual post . . .

We had quite a day here yesterday.  When I went to put my shoes on for church, I noticed a chewed up piece of sparkly Christmas Ribbon on the rug by my nightstand. It looked like it had been torn and was only about 7 inches long. I tried to find the rest of it, but couldn't. Both cats seemed to be okay however so I thought to myself, I will have a good look when I get home from church.

I got home from church and Nutmeg was there to greet me at the door, all happy to see me, but Cinnamon was laying under the table, not quite herself.  I couldn't even tempt her with her dinner.   Then I noticed that someone had thrown up on the carpet. She went in under my bed and wouldn't come out. I just knew it had something to do with the ribbon.  I called my sister who was out golfing with Dan. Then I called the Vet. I knew that something was terribly wrong, and I felt she needed to see a Vet asap.  She was just not herself.

Cindy came over and we got her out from under the bed and to the Vets. She underwent emergency surgery, and the Vet removed a long piece of ribbon from her upper bowel.  She said it had probably been there for 24 hours. Likely she ate it when I was out shopping on Saturday morning.  She is a bit sneaky and fished it out of my nightstand. She loves playing with ribbons and pipe cleaners and will steal them.

She came through the surgery alright but still has not eaten anything since, not even her favorite treats. She has drunk some water.  She spent the night with me in my room. Nutmeg is being mean to her. Hissing and spitting at her, even today.  I keep having to tell him to leave her alone. She is back under my bed.

Hopefully all will be well in the end. I am trying to act normal so that I don't make them even more spooked. Cindy came over after we got her back from the Vets and all of my yarn, including the balls on my coffee table, has been stowed away out of reach, and we have checked to make sure there was no more ribbon under the bed or anywhere.

I really hope that she will be acting more like herself by the end of the day and that Nutmeg stops being such a bully.  Your happy thoughts are much appreciated.

I will hopefully be back tomorrow with a normal post.  In the meantime, don't forget!

  1. Oh, Marie, so sorry to hear of Cinnamon’s distress. You must have been very scared. You acted very quickly and got her to the vet’s. Praying she will be all right. We cat lovers can learn from this. Love and hugs, Elaine

  2. So glad the vet was able to remove the ribbon. It will probably take a day or so for her to get back to usual. Nutmeg was either telling her off for eating the ribbon, could smell the vets and was annoyed at that, or he was concerned she was getting all the attention and he had been left alone. I’m sure things will improve. Good to put everything like yarn and ribbon away. Tickles for both of them, and a hug for you for attempting to act normal, when I know you are very concerned. Take care.
