Small and Wonderful Things . . .

"The world is fairly studded and strewn with pennies cast broadside from a generous hand. But who gets excited by a mere penny? It is dire poverty indeed when a man is so malnourished and fatigued that he won't stoop to pick up a penny. But if you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted with pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. What you see is what you get." ~Anne Dillard

A few of the small and wonderful things which bring untold joy into my life. It's the small things in life which truly mean the most. Simple abundance . . . it's the best.

Its Lilac Time! I can't believe how fast these have come out. It seems that just a few days ago they were just little buds. I took this photo out at my sister's last night.  All of the leaves are fully out as are the leaves on the huge maple tree in the back side of the house.

The blooms are so pretty, and the smell of them is intoxicating.  Time to light my lilac candle I think!

I am grateful for my simple life. My tiny home. My simple way of doing things.  I am so done with complicated. I have had more than enough of that in life.  I do not crave excitement, and I don't want any drama in my life if at all possible. Just a quiet everyday kind of a life filled with simple things and simple joys. Humble pleasures.

Church on Sundays.  I don't always want to break out of my comfort zone and go in person, but when I do, I am always happy that I did. It is great to have the option to watch online when you are not feeling up to it, but it is always better in person if possible.  The most important part is being able to partake of the sacrament, and you cannot do that at home. To be there in person and renewing your Baptismal covenants with the breaking of the bread, etc. that is the best. To take the Savior's name upon you for another week. To feel the spirit present. There is no feeling like it.  I am always grateful that I went. As I touch the hem of His garment every Sunday, I am made whole again.

Getting things ready for my brother's visit.  He will be here on Thursday. I am looking forward to his visit. Spending time with family is always the best thing.  We all share a beautiful history together that we don't share with anyone else. I am grateful for that.

Sunday dinner with family.  That is a most pleasant occupation, and I am always grateful to be included. Cindy cooked a roast yesterday. It was melt-in-the-mouth tender as always, with roasted potatoes and carrots and yellow beans. She makes the best gravy. All delicious.  Lingering a bit longer at the table to talk afterwards.  Always nice. I love my family.

I can never look at bundles of white hydrangea without thinking of my time working at the Manor.  There was a pretty conservatory just off the kitchen where they ate most of their daily meals and did a bit of entertaining with small groups.  She always had it decked out in white hydrangea. Live. In pots on the window ledges and a big one on the table. These often got transplanted outside along the Southern side of the house at some point and fresh ones took their place. So pretty.

Otters, especially baby otters. They are just the cutest things. I often have them show up on my IG feed. I love seeing them.

The company I keep. He is never very far away from me.  I think he loves me. He is all whiskers here. Cinnamon stays pretty close also.  Love them both to bits.

Eurovision contest.  I watched it off and on over the past week. I enjoyed every bit of it. I had never heard of it until I moved to the U.K. It is fun to watch and incredibly cheesy.  Great entertainment.

Sunshine . . .  we have had some beautiful sunshiny days over the past week. Some rain too, but mostly sunshine. Everything seems right and possible when the sun is shining.

The power of antibiotics.  The sores under my arm have improved vastly just in two days. It has not disappeared completely but hopefully by the time I have finished them, they will hopefully be well on their way out the door.

My life is a wonderful mix of good things and sweet things. Home, family, faith, friends. Health.  Peace. Comfort. Joy.  I count it all joy.

I am blessed with abundance.

  1. Love going outside and taking in the smell of lilacs at this time of year. Sunday dinner sounds delicious and excitement of brother’s visit is catching. A chilly 6 Celsius when I got up and a brisk wind makes it feel cooler. That teasing warm weather from a few days ago has vanished. Wonderful the antibiotics are working for you. Have a lovely Monday.

  2. We had lilacs as a kid...however, at last place my dad had to dig it up. The very worst place to place one is near to the water or sewer pipes...they WILL get into that!! So one needs to keep them far away from such and then you can enjoy them for weeks while they flower!!
    HUGS, Elizabeth xoxo
