A Day Book . . .

FOR TODAY, April 23rd, 2024

Outside my window ...

Heavy frost this morning. It's -4 out there, so cold, but the sun is shining brilliantly so it promises to be a nice dry day! It is expected to get up to +13*C/+55*F so warming up considerably from what it is at the moment. The daffodils are dancing and a beautiful day is expected.

I am thinking ...

"Extraordinary things are always hiding in places people never think to look." ~Jodi Picoult

Always look for the extraordinary in every day. If you don't look for it, you will never find it! I am ever grateful for eyes that are able to find beauty in ordinary things and a mind that is ever-inquisitive. Life is never boring.

I am also thinking ...

I am taking a course at the moment. It is called "Holy Envy," and is being taught online by David Butler. It is a study of the world's religions and will cover 11 different religions.  I just did the introduction yesterday and I am excited to continue. "Holy Envy" is seeing what is good and beautiful in every belief system and faith tradition in the world. God is more than any one of us can grasp. If God relates to His children, in all of their diversity, then there must be diverse ways of relating to Him. I am looking forward to learning all of the positives of the different faiths in the world and how God's children relate to Him in different ways.

In the kitchen ...

Butter Roasted Tomato Sauce.  If you are a fan of pasta and you love a good sauce, then prepare to be amazed. Simple ingredients put together in the most delicious way!

On my "to cook" list ...

The Kitchen Magpie.  Baby Pea and Potato Salad, with garlic and bacon aioli. This looks fabulous. It will be salad season before we know it!

Good to Know ...

I would love to create ...

Would love to alter a tin or match box again. I always enjoyed doing those very much.

Looking forward to ...

My sister and I each got this book and I am looking forward to working together using it on paint/sketch afternoons. It will be fun. I am just waiting for an art journal I ordered from Curry's to arrive and then the fun can begin!

Oh my goodness ...

Such cute little dolls. They remind me very much of these little rubber dolls that my sister and I got for Christmas one year when we were children. They were dressed in costumes of the world. You could not undress them and they were made of hard rubber, but we both loved them.

I am reading ...

The Wisdom of Donkeys by Andy Merrifield

A walk in the French countryside with a donkey inspires this literary ode to peace, presence, and fulfillment.

In this enchanting book, Andrew Merrifield sets out on a journey of the soul with a friend's donkey, through the crumbling ruins and spectacular vistas of southern France's Haute-Auvergne. Along the way the understated nobility of Gribouille, his humble donkey companion, allows him to confront himself as well as to consider the larger mysteries of life.

As Merrifield contemplates literature, science, truth, beauty, and the universality of nature amid the French countryside, Gribouille surprises him with his subtle wisdom, reminding him time and again that enlightenment is all around us if we but seek it.

Traveling with Merrifield and Gribouille, we're reminded of the exquisite benefits of nature, passive adventuring, and wild spaces.

A delight.

Looking forward to ...

  2. A sunny start to the day, but it keeps trying to get cloudy, probably a reminder of what is to come, rain overnight. I'm cooking a salmon casserole today, just for me! Enjoy that new book.
