Wednesday This and That . . .

  

Last night we were the victims of a drive by gifting!  It  came as a complete surprise.  Oh, some people had been posting on our church FB page that the cake fairy had been, but nothing like this.  

 

Beautiful apples, pears, cherries and strawberries  . . .  we ate the cherries right away, and really enjoyed them. I adore cherries  . . . 

 

Chocolate dipped Viennese Biscuits, Fig Rolls (Fig Newtons),  a Chocolate Orange, a TOBLERONE (!!!), Lindor Truffles, pudding rice, soap, toilet wipes, face masks . . .  and that's not all  . . .  

  

Dried Milk Powder, Instant Mash and some really nice smelling liquid  hand soap . . . 

 

This was the only clue, although Todd got to the door just in time to see Pollyanna escaping via our main gate at the front, wearing street clothes, a face mask and looking suspiciously like our church friend Peter Sumner.  He had left his tutu at home. 

All told it was a very nice surprise.  I suspect it was a gift from the Priesthood Quorum.  They are doing service on Tuesday nights for the members in our church congregation and it was Tuesday night. Pollyanna knows that women like good chocolate! And cherries. We have been blessed. 

 

We had Cotton Candy Clouds yesterday interspersed with dark clouds and showers. One minute it would look like this and then a little bit later the dark clouds would be rolling in. 

   

A bit of a sky yo-yo all the day through  . . .  

  

But mostly we got this.  We really can't complain about the weather we had in April and now May.  If you have been told to stay at home as we have done, it is so much better to endure if you can get out and about in the garden for fresh air and exercise under sunny clear skies.

April would have been a wonderful month with beautiful weather had the kids actually been able to come. 

 

We watched the Season Finale to Outlander last night.  And I am already missing it.  I have loved this show from its very inception.  I admittedly am embarassed by the graphic sexual scenes in it, but I have loved the story.  I have only ever read the first book and part of the second, but the series is very well done and I thought last night's episode was one of the best of this particular series and left us wanting more.  I will not say anything about it save to say, if you are an Outlander Fan you will not be disappointed.  This song played largely throughout it.   That was one of my favourite songs back in the day.  I think I probably cried a few tears to it way back then, and I shed a few last night  . . . 

I don't think they make music like this anymore.

This is Mr Sardonicus.  Mr Sardonicus was a horror film made in 1961 about a man whose face gets frozen into an ugly grimace when he opens his dead father's grave to retrieve a winning lottery ticket.  yeh  . . .  they had the lottery in 1880.  Anyways, I was reminded of it last night as I caught a glimpse of it on The Gilmore Girls.  It reminded me of one late Saturday night when I was a teenager and had gone to bed. My parents were likely out dancing. I was awoken from my sleep by the sound of my sister screaming downstairs.  I went down to investigate only to find that my sister was watching this film on the telly.  I ended up staying downstairs with her, and we both enjoyed a scream-fest together for the rest of the film. 

 

Do you remember when Elvira, Mistress of the Dark hosted horror films late at night on Saturdays at the weekend?  (I am telling my age now.)  She used to come on after Saturday Night Live.  Another show which we used to enjoy.  We don't get it over here in the UK.  I used to love that as well back in the day.  Landshark.   

  

Chevvy Chase, John Belushi, Dan Ackroyd, Jayne Curtain, Gilda Radner, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman, Michael O'Donahue . . .  Bill Murray . . . Steve Martin  . . . brilliant cast back in the day. A lot of great actors and comics got their big breaks on SNL. 

 

We used to love watching this also after school.  We sould sit on the sofa and laugh our heads off.  So funny.   These were  much more innocent times than what we enjoy today.  

  

 

 We recently started watching The Waltons again on our DVD's.  I loved this show when I was younger.  I wanted a "Waltons" family.  A simple life like that, their home  . . .  lots of kiddies.  I did have five so I almost got there  . . . 

My best friend in highschool came from a family of ten children.  I used to wish that we had a large family like that. Her youngest sister was only 3 years old and we used to love bringing her out with us.  Well, I did anyways.  I can remember wishing my mother would have another baby.  I used to babysit regularly for the family across the road from us.  They had a baby and I would wake it up as soon as they left so that I could play with it  She was so cute.  

 

It would only be a few years later when I would have one of my own.  That baby will be 45 years old on the 29th of June!  Where have the years flown to?  It seems I blinked and woke up in 2020!  People warn you when you are young that your life is going to flash by, but do we believe them? No. We wake up all of a sudden and its gone by in a whizz  . . .  

Right now as I sit here I can look out my back window and see forboding clouds, and if I look out my front window the sun is brightly shining. It think today is going to be a bit of a mixed bag weatherwise! Kind of like yesterday. 

I have lots of work to do today.  I worked four hours yesterday on that other site I write on.  It is called Home Chef  World.   They want me to do some action shots of me cooking, but you know, its awfully hard to take photos of yourself cooking.  And Todd is not a great photographer. He shakes and everything always ends up very poorly.  With only him and myself in the house and nobody coming in I don't think that is going to happen somehow. 

 

Last night I dreamt I was back working in the Care Home that I worked in right when I had first moved over here to the UK.  I was hired as a Care Assistant, but then demoted to a cleaner and kitchen assistant after a few months. The other girls had complained that I was too slow at everything.  That's because I didn't rush the residents through their meals etc.  Basically I think it was because I actually "cared."  Working there was a real eye opener for me in so many ways.  Anyways last night in my dreams I was working there again and I had found a piece of paper in a bin which said that one of the residents had tested positive for Covid-19.  Scary feeling.  I was very happy to wake up.
