The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, May 5th, 2020

Outside my window...
The days are really becoming noticeably longer now.  I am getting up in daylight at 5:30 am and going to bed in daylight at 9:00 pm.  The birds have never sung sweeter.

I am thinking ...
Trying not to do that too much at the moment, so staying busy busy as I can and getting loads done.

I am thankful for ...
My faith, good neighbors, the NHS, friends, my health, etc. My glass is still half full.

In the kitchen ...
Sourdough Biscuits, made from some of the discard from my sourdough starter.  So delicious!

On my "To Cook" list ...

Crostata al mascarpone con gocce di cioccolato...e una frolla speciale!  Its in Italian, but I can use an online translator, hopefully!

Good to know ...

I can't remember the last time I had hiccups, but you never know when this might come in handy!

I am creating ...

Ruffled.  DIY Star Confetti Tape.

A Crocheted Simplicity.  Flat stitch seam.  Love this!

Daisy Farm Crafts.  Crochet Teal Gingham Blanket.

Potato Stamps.  No source.  Looks easy enough however.

Family Bunny Slippers.  Church Mouse Yarns

I am reading ...

Normal People, by Sally Rooney
Connell and Marianne grow up in the same small town in the west of Ireland, but the similarities end there. In school, Connell is popular and well-liked, while Marianne is a loner. But when the two strike up a conversation - awkward but electrifying - something life-changing begins. Normal People is a story of mutual fascination, friendship and love. It takes us from that first conversation to the years beyond, in the company of two people who try to stay apart but find they can't.

Dreaming of ...

One day visiting Ireland  . . .

One day I would love to have a cat again  . . .

One day making my own ice cream from scratch  . . . my mother's bread tins  . . .

Pretty blue gates  . . . .

Stone crofts with window ledges large enough to hold kettle planters  . . .

Something to watch ...

Seasons 1 and 2 of After Life on Netflix. Cringeworthy language, but once you get past that, the show is pretty good.   And when I say cringeworthy, I mean cringeworthy. Not recommended if you are overly sensitive to that type of thing.

  2. Hi, Marie! GOOD to catch up with you today! :) Like you, I'm trying not to think too much--about most things! My brain works a lot overtime, and it's not always the best way to function... haha! I've been online a little less, and this with the not thinking, I think I'm doing a little "better"... ;)
It's been fun seeing about your sourdough adventures! I have yet to try this kind of baking. Thank gingham crochet blanket is GORGEOUS! I want one of those--gotta add that to the To Make List! Your current reading sounds very sweet... VERY much hope you'll have a cat again some day. I can't imagine life without a kitty! Wishing you all a LOVE-filled week there! Be keeping well, and safe... ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

  3. Those Sourdough biscuits looks so yummy! I loved all the crocheted items. Right now, I do want to start something. However, I gave away a lot of yarn for a project and now I need to buy more and when I looked recently in a store that was opened; they didn't have much. I guess that means there are alot of people crocheting.
You book looks interesting; I always love a good love story.
Your dreams area, it is always fun. I loved the photos. I would love to visit Ireland too; since I have ancestors from there. I loved cats too and probably can't have them again because of Allergies. Sammy is enough for now, he is our precious fur baby.
    Sending loving thoughts and hugs!
